the 2500 mile trip begins, working on upgrades 2017 X3

GLAMIS WEATHER
Are you drilling the floor rivet holes out bigger for those washers? Are they 6mm bolts?
Drill out the rivet holes for the size of the nutsert. Then you can open up the skid plates to accommodate the dish in the washer. I would post pictures but I don’t have access to my car at the moment.

So did you use the same frame and added gussets or did you also buy a new frame?
Bought a new max frame from BRP, had it stripped and sandblasted. Welded all my shit on then used Steel-It to coat. I went from a 2017 two seater to a 2020 4 seat frame, just had to buy longer drive line and some plastic pieces.

i was planning on having it powder coated but maybe i should consider just steel-it on the new bars and gussets

i think my powder coated said he could powdercoat right over the current powder coat because its new--thoughts

I like the Steel-it, its easy to touch up and when you weld on a tab you dont have to worry about ruining powdercoat

I am a big fan of powder coating frames. We did my 1600 car in steel it, and it didn't hold up for more than a year or two. Only recommend steel it on parts that need constant service or mag inspection, like arms.

Steel it you can weld on it and touch up. Steel it holds up well too.

im kind of leaning this way as its not the whole frame and really all the things i did are not seen at all. maybe just do my cage and front bumper as they are orange going to talk to my powder coater again

I powder coat fence daily, so not the same as car frames, but we will recoat powder, I just always let the customer know the new coat will only be as good as the last coat will hold. If the first coat isn't great, the second one will definitely fail over time

thanks for that info!!!

How's this frame swap coming along.
my goodness this is really the worst job I have done massive hours and work
it will be awesome when done but I would never do this job as a billed job. even thought about buying the nice black one from the board but would end up with the same weak frame

can't get axles out so bought a tool hopefully they will be out Monday once that's done the motor and tranny will come out as one piece

All black Powder coating. Looks nice

bought a 15 gallon tank, and a street lighting kit as i will be required when i need to do little stints on the highway

Sounds like prior owner spent some time in water or washed it a lot. From my understanding that is the main reason why axles wont come out without brute force. Hell of a job though!

AZ to Canada once we are done it will cost $1400 per SXS to tow back to Orange County abd we fly back to AZ pick up our rig and drive home
