Best Dirt Bike for riding in the Glamis Sand Dunes?

GLAMIS WEATHER
Been eyeing the X. We can't sticker register any new bikes though right? These have to be track only? I've got fingers crossed we get a new governor with some sense and a strong pen hand. And to answer the topic question, I think it's a 450 for most riders.

I thought you guys can’t buy new 2 strokes in California.
Negative, they are still sold. The latest is that they are sold for private track use only and are not registered. Funny part is my daughter has a '24 KX112 and she rides everywhere with no registration. So stupid they are now missing out on the registration fees. I know when in Ocotillo Wells we see plenty of newer (un-registered) bikes riding all over.

Looks like the bike could be a lot of fun but in small doses, what size is the gas tank? I know that the 250 2-strokes do not have the range the 4-strokes have. They are usually the first ones in a group to hit reserve and need to go back. This one is another 30% larger and if it has the same size tank you are not doing much riding.

2.2 gallons. KTM uses a 2.3-2.4 gallon tank depending on year. The KX is an MX or offroad tailored design. The aftermarket will step up with larger tanks. I am interested in the 327X with its 6 speed (Both have e-start) will have enough of a charging system to run head and taillights.

Like Fireball says, the X model is the ticket. Aftermarket Tank, Whip Mount and a paddle....all set.

Just cool to see a major MFG going this route, KAW would earn more love (Buyers in CA) getting OHV land access back for modern 2 strokes.

For 2021 and Older 2-Strokes - Legal all year round
If your dirt bike is a model year 2021 or older, you are in luck. Under California Air Resources Board (CARB) and DMV rules, these older 2-stroke machines are grandfathered in and treated like a Green Sticker. [1, 2]
  • Where you can ride: You can ride year-round in all state SVRA (State Vehicular Recreation Areas) like Carnegie SVRA or Hollister Hills SVRA.
  • Registration: Ensure your bike is properly registered with the CA DMV. [1, 2]
For 2022 and Newer 2-Strokes - Cath me riding dirty!
If your 2-stroke is a 2022 or newer model, it is generally considered a "Competition" vehicle. [1]
  • Where you can ride: You cannot register these newer bikes for trail use or ride them on public OHV land unless it is a sanctioned closed-course competition or on private land.

I asked a group of riders why there were not any CR500 or KX500 in the dunes. They said that the suspension was better on the newer bikes. Most bikes I saw were YZ450’s.

I built my own. Didn't buy anything from Service Honda. I loved it until it got stolen out of garage.

You know in certain parts of the world, it's legal to kill people who put blue plastic on Hondas?
