    Quake In La Basin

Emergency alerts went off on our phones while getting ready to head out the door. I grabbed the baby and my wife rounded up the 5 year old and we headed for the front door. Never felt it but noticed some the hanging decorations swaying a bit. Something I thought about with this one, We have now...

Can am Diff...what would you do?

Since I've seen every version of these Can-Am Visco-Lok and Smart-Look diffs over the past 7 years, I guess I'm qualified to chime in. The Visco-Lok diffs are pretty fragile. They only have 2-spider gears compared to the 4-spider gears in the Smart-Lok diffs. The R&P gears are virtually the...

    Calling All Weddle HV-24/HV-25 Owners...

I had a few people send me e-mails. It was good to hear a from a quite few that had many 1000's of miles with no issues or complaints. They are proving their value and longevity. (unapologetic sales pitch there) We were more curious about what people thought about the shift quality...

No-Lift-Shift, What is it? (Paddle Shift Info Added 9/17/24)

I read through the details a few times, I am not seeing any shift drum sensor input on this unit. Which is a key element to making this a safe system for the gearbox.

No-Lift-Shift, What is it? (Paddle Shift Info Added 9/17/24)

The geartronics system is doing the same thing through their standalone system that you would through a high end motorsports ECU and having a tuner set up the system. The question becomes how is the Geartronics standalone system telling what ever ECU you have to cut or blip power? That's a...

    The Transaxle Thread

The only issue that could arise is having an input shaft seal in the bell housing go bad and start to leak. With the car not in motion, the R&P is not churning oil to the input seal and lubricating it. Running for a long time in neutral could allow the seal to get hot and brittle, then develop...

No-Lift-Shift, What is it? (Paddle Shift Info Added 9/17/24)

As stated above, it's more about the ECU and the tuner that makes this system function properly. But yes, the Albins sequential will allow for this system. I have heard that the newer Holley systems can accept some of these inputs, but I know the older ECU's do not. You would need to know what...

No-Lift-Shift, What is it? (Paddle Shift Info Added 9/17/24)

It's less about the gearbox and more about the tuner that sets the parameters. There are a few Fortins in class 1 cars with converters that utilize No-Lift-Shift. I do not have any direct experience with them though.

No-Lift-Shift, What is it? (Paddle Shift Info Added 9/17/24)

Great question. The torque converter adds a bit of complexity due to the inertia effect of the converter and how the input shaft is still under torque load even after you cut the power. But, this is what we use in the big class 1 desert race cars, and it does work well in most instances...

No-Lift-Shift, What is it? (Paddle Shift Info Added 9/17/24)

If you are referring to the new DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission), yes and no. Those are half sequential and half automatic. But they still utilize ECU management to shift them. The new trans in the Can-Am works the same way as these. Our gearboxes/transaxles are actually quite antiquated in...

No-Lift-Shift, What is it? (Paddle Shift Info Added 9/17/24)

I think I've received enough calls from the sand community about No-Lift-Shift over the past few years that it deserves a thread here. No-lift-shift or Flat-Shift is nothing new to the motorsports world. It has been utilized in high performance racing applications since the 70's. Since the...

    Weddle Transaxles in GT40

Weddle purchased the "offroad" line of transaxles from Mendeola, while they retained the rights to their own road based sequential and H-pattern transaxles (The sequential is actually the same as the S5 but using their in house straight cut gears). There was never anything that said we...

    Weddle Transaxles in GT40

Some non-offroad content for you guys. Weddle HV-25 in this 750 HP Superformance GT40 replica with a 351W. We started working with Downforce Motorsports out of South Carolina a few years back as they needed some heavy duty transaxles to get these cars on the road/track. This is the test mule...

    Calling All Weddle HV-24/HV-25 Owners...

Got a car with a Weddle HV-24/HV-25 in it?  We want your thoughts, opinions, good, bad, all of it. We have a few hundred of these floating around now, and want to gather some information from those of you that are actually putting miles on them.  Tell me what kind of car you have, what engine...

    Gear selector / wrong reading

Did you have Rancho upgrade to the Gen 3 shift mechanism? If so, there will be a different sensor on the trans that will no longer with your existing display, the voltages are different from the early Gen 1/Gen 2 units. If you have the new Gen 3 shift mechanism, you will either need to replace...

    Transaxle Pump

I only care about the one on top at the very front of the trans. This hits directly on top of 4th gear and splashes the mainshaft bearing. No need for a split as the pictures show. Get oil to the front of the trans/mainshaft bearing.

    Sequential vs. Synchromesh, The Difference

The term "sequential" refers to the fact the gears in this type of gearbox are shifted sequentially from neutral to the high gear. You cannot select neutral between gears, nor can you skip a gear, like shifting from 4th to 2nd for instance. They operate much like a motorcycle transmission...

    Sequential vs. Synchromesh, The Difference

A common question. What is the difference between sequential and synchromesh (or H-pattern) shifting gearboxes? I will almost always recommend a synchronized gearbox to the recreational user, or to anyone that plans on having multiple people drive their car. Synchronized H-pattern gearboxes are...
