BLM news. New ranger station.

What a fucking waste of money. Does this mean they are going to do the New Years DUI checkpoint down on Cement Flats?? Heaven forbid they have to leave the comforts of the office...

Cement Flats will now suck, those folks will move further down Gecko, which is going to suck getting past the construction going on.

Did it really need this upgrade? What was it hurting in the existing building?

Anyone can say something will be better....well what exactly aside more space.

Wanna keep the funding, gotta spend the money..

My guess is technology implementation.

One that will change the game for Gecko road.

ALPR's aka Flock cameras.

The 14 day rule will be addressed when you enter and when you leave.

Now this is just my opinion but having spoken to other LE officers, it's already in place at the BLM levels and in service at other locations.

No idea on trauma support but would hope to see something updated in this.

They shouldn’t need an entire new building for that.

Have you been in their buildings?

I had a meet and greet planned but missed it.
No. I haven’t been in the building, but I’m still against them wasting a bunch of money on a new one. I’d support funding the rescue guys out there. But the rent a cops? No way.

Would rather see the money spent elsewhere, but at the same time it's good to see they are at least making investments / improvements - hopefully the trend will continue/

Current structure isn't/wasn't really permanent... feels like a 40 year old mobile that has sat in Glamis all it's life would feel with the uneven floors rotting away and lots of maintenance/upkeep. As technology, equipment, visitation, etc has grown it's been a modular hodge-podge of "make it work". The new station has been in the works for ~10+ years, Neil laid the foundation for it long before he left ECFO.

ISDRA is one of the largest off-road recreation areas in the U.S., the pinnacle of off-roading for some, and has the most ghetto ass ranger station. It's actually kind of embarrassing.

Grants and other funding is helping pay for it, not just our fees... though they'll be used to maintain it, which should actually be cheaper than the current dilapidated station.

If I had my way we'd rip out the pit toilets, get rid of the dumpsters, provide no EMS/LE or other services... no mans land, you are on your own... but since I can't, and all things considered, I am not totally opposed to the new station.

definitely more camping areas needed before needing a bigger, nicer ranger station.

Govt loves to spend money...
