The newer lowrance units will use an SD card and you buy the card loaded with all the major stops in Glamis from PCI.

i like lead nav on the tablet use it mostly in the sxs in the desert but it is good when someone has a problem and you are looking for the easiest way to a valley. you can download satellite imagery and use off line which is nice

Perfect thanks guys!

Will download leadnav, and i do have a lowrance with the california card from PCI.

I've been going to Glamis since 1985.

Have never owned a GPS and I "was" the group leader. "Leaders" don't need and should not use GPS. GPS isn't going to show you the best lines, nor does it account for your group's skills.

If you don't know where you are at in Glamis, that's a dangerous position to be in. It's actually very small and all spots are easy as hell to find if you pay attention.

You could put me at the bottom of a Bowl and I'd know where we are and how to get home... and I guarantee I smoke more weed than any of you.

A few years ago we had reasons to need to call 911 for help. None of us had a GPS unit but we had cell phones. We were able to drop a pin so we could get the GPS Coordinates to give the 911 Operator to forward to the Med teams.

First time we were out in the dunes We had the Rangers call us back and tell us our GPS numbers were not correct, We had to head to olds to meet up with them. They showed up in a truck. This was ealry in the season and the cars were still on a trailer being delivered for the season. So we had to wait for them to be unloaded. Then wait some more until they got to Olds and them follow us up and over. At that point they called in the Helo, They then asked us for the GPS Coordinates. Helo flew right to us. Poor guy had to lay there for over two hours. Last we heard he was dealing with a pretty serious TBI, but he survived.

Later in the year we once again needed rescue again. Again we give them GPS Coordinates this time we are in the wash's this time not only did they drive right by us they didn't believe the person we sent to grab them after they drove by. Even the second crew that the first crew gave the Coordinates to struggled to find us.

Moral to the story, GPS only works if both sides can figure out how to use it.
