Mexican Navy ship hits bridge

Guess I'll be the Debbie Downer in the group on this one. A lot of countries still have Tall Ships that cruise the world which I think is pretty cool. The fact that some young Mexican kids doing some cool shit, dying and getting injured ,is worth joking about seems a little odd to me.
Your compassion and ability to stand outside of the Circle and point fingers, is commendable.

The ship hit the Brooklyn Bridge at 7 mph. The average walking speed of a healthy Human is 4 mph.

The poor souls at the top of the masts had 1-2 minutes to move to a lower position from where they were and it appears that they didn't do much in that window of time.

Sometimes the result of "doing cool shit" is dangerous... kinda like running full throttle through the dunes... or on a Wash Road on your Quad. Sometimes axles break and you get Life Flighted out while your buddies watch, most times you don't. I don't think anyone on this website made those "kids" climb those Masts and be a part of something that is clearly not safe... but that's just my simple point of view.

Lived in a navy town my whole life. Never seen the aussies, french, british, japanese, russian, chinese, or any other serious military force put on such an over the top display.

Where was the command structure? Are they trained to hold their choreographed dance positions while sailing into fixed objects? Was anyone making any attempts to save the ship? The whole episode comes off as a joke, dont be shocked when the crowd laughs.

Most navy’s tall ships like the uss constitution (first sailed 1798 and even played a major role in war of 1812) are historical relics and floating museums. That coast guard ship began service i the 1930s. This ship was launched in 1982. Fyi; this isnt the first time this ship has hit a bridge while sailing abroad
Most of the worlds Navys have ay least one Tall ship, not sure what the relevance of whether or not you saw one firsthand is? That said, I've got a thick skin, am not offended, and joke about alot of insensitive things myself, just saying that I think these dispalys are kinda cool, and this situation is kinda sad. I think the real question is why didn't a sailboat that size, which is going to inherently have poor manueverability, not have a pilot and a tug attatched to get it out of that river? A 7 knot current is fast as hell. I'd guess at best that boat can probably make about 10 knots at best.

Imagine living in New York where they spent several billons on asylum seekers crossing the border - then the country that somewhat helped make it easy for them (Mexico) was cruising their ship in your port waving their flag....and then boom, they hit the bridge.
Hate to sound like a dick, but they got what they deserved.... it's too bad two people lost their lives, but at the same time why in the f were they even there.
