  1. All the stories on how your business is doing has a lot more meaning if you tell us what area of USA you work in !

for me in north San Diego county, dump trucking hauling mainly dirt and demolition was a little slower last year but we were down 50% in gross for the first 3 months due to rain the rest of the year was pretty good but I know some people that have not been in the business as long as I have are have tell me they are slower

definitely takes longer to get paid

  2. I am 60 and could retire now, my wife and I run a trucking business and have saved enough without Social security to sell it all and quite, the ss payments will just be icing on the cake. since we don't plan on leaving California we invested in California municipal bonds ca tax free income and a few other conservative investment.

I already work when I want and sometimes when I don't, but being your own boss has its advantages. I am more worried about running out of money in my old age than working longer.

My father is 94 and physically in good health and takes no medication he does have dementia his mother died at 102 and was physically in good health until about 95 and my grand parents on my mothers side lived to 90 and 98 both of my grand fathers died of cancer one smoked unfiltered cigarets starting at 16 and then spent 40 years also breathing coal smoke from steam engines the other from skin cancer that spread to the rest of his body and my mother died at 82 from multiple myeloma. For me this means without any advancements in medical science I could easily live another 35 years, My grand parents retired in the 70's but the economy and inflation pretty much wiped out most of their savings and investments and their retirement years were not as easy as they thought they would be, the other thing is they never expected to live as long as they did there parents and grandparents didn't but modern medicine happened and kept them healthy. Lucile who died at 102 had advice for me, and that was to get younger friends as she out lived everyone many by 30 plus years.

I can not fathom doing nothing but spending money on hobbies for 35 years and not running out at some point, things are not getting cheaper and Funco upgrades are expensive  and what if medical science comes up with something that keeps me alive and healthy for 60 more years so I will continue working but I am committed to taking more time off and enjoy what ever I'm doing for as long as I can do it.

  4. this may be good for keeping house price inflation at a slower pace on the next boom bust cycle and maybe keep the bust from being as big

but i think they missed the boat as huge company’s have been buying and holding long enough that they will not be affected only the small fast flippers will get taxed

or may be house price inflation will be worse because they will just have to sell for more

  5. If you add a little heat to the area you need to bend, it will pull back with much less force usually 500 to 600 degrees will reduce the force needed to bend but as long as you don't go past a dull red very hard to see in daylight or 1000 degrees you will not hurt the strength of the steel.

You can also use a technique called flame straightening were you heat up an area to a dull red and quench the area to shrink it back into shape.

I have used both of these methods to bend steel.

the jack and chain you are using is not pulling as hard as you may think it is, looks like a 3/8 chain and 12 ton jack i think if you were putting 24,000 pounds of force on a single link of 3/8 chain that is rated at 7,000 lb working load i think you would see the chain deform or kink.

  6. A family friend that is 74 years old got the vaccine when they first became available then 2 months ago was hospitalized with all the symptoms of COVID but they never actually tested for it, She is fine now, I just find it interesting as to why she was not tested

I read somewhere that CA is doing the mail in ballot BS for the recall election. Article said it's important to vote in person or drop off the mail-in ballot at a polling place.

Ca has had a mail in absentee voting for decades I have been voting absentee for as long as I can remember I think I only waited in line once and said f this
