Lol, amusingly there’s another blue mustang (5th gen) that drives like an ass around here. I keep it civil around people and houses…

    Sheriff or CHP?

The traffic related calls in that area are routed to CHP. However, I have happily transferred from that area, my lifelong home, and have moved on to sandier pastures.

BTW: if there is any backup on the 125 visible from the 8, I just don't exit.  8 to Chase or 2nd St and take surface streets. Luckily, that means I get to drive up one of my favorite roads in a car made for it.

Oh you’re the 23103 call I used to get about a blue ford mustang on Jamul Dr 😆

there are two  one is by highway8, concrete pool, etc  the other is off the 86, small sandy and often with naked people there.  been a long time but from memory its like 5.8 miles from gecko road on the 86, then turn left and go in 1.3 miles   its the only place with several palm trees poking out of the natural landscape

my numbers may be slightly off as its been a long time ago

Your distances are pretty close, but your streets are off. The one down south is along the Highline Canal on Interstate 8, and the one up north near glamis is down State Route 78, not the 86. But the confusion is understandable because the 86 turned into the 78.

  5. No race gas at this Maverick. Also, then and the Loves across the street seem to be in a price war. Unleaded was $2.31 yesterday before the Maverick app discounts.

  6. What kind of paperwork did you get with the truck? Have you inspected the VIN’s tags on the truck like the public vin on the dash, the federal sticker usually somewhere in the door jam? Do they all match to the seemingly legitimate paperwork? My concern is the truck has been stolen and what is known as a “vin switch” performed. That’s where the thief has legit paperwork say from a totaled out truck, and uses that to clone itself using a stolen one. Sometimes they forget to change the ecm which has the vin association with it as well.

So if the smog shop scanned the barcode on the dash to initiate the smog test, then hooked up the OBD2 port and the ecm told the smog machine a different story, then there is definitely something worth looking into.

I'm in agreeance with you. The skilled drivers and high hp cars used to always stay to the right. The left was for smaller quads, Jeeps, and trucks etc.

Can we talk about parking at the top of the hill? or save that for another topic? :legit:

Not at all at the top of the hill? Or are some places, which aren’t in a well traveled line, ok?

  8. I’m in a buggy that can easily play on the “buggy side.”  I pass by the hill on rides to catch a glimpse of the poo show, I don’t go to be a part of it. What I’d like to not see, is a big, fast vehicle hauling ass up the left side and taking out a kid or a family in a 4 seat 1000 without a turbo.

  9. Is there a correct side for the fast guys to play on? When I started there NYE of Y2K, I was informed there was a buggy side, and a family side.  The buggy side was where the fast cars would go up and down, playing, drag racing etc. and that side was the one to the north, or the right as you’re facing the hill. The family side was the easier side to go up to the south. The fast guys were not supposed to play on the south side since there were beginners, kids, and slower vehicles going up on that side.

Over this past NYE weekend, I saw all kinds of big, fast vehicles getting a run from the bushes, charging the whoops and racing up the hill towards the cut where families and kids were trying to not get killed. There was a pre runner with Shock Talk logos all over it being an absolute menace while there were slower vehicles trying to go up the “easy” side.

What is the conscious? Should the fast cars keep to the right (unless they’re just passing through with a mixed group) or is the hill free game?

In the civil aircraft industry we are seeing a massive buyout by investment groups. All of the mills that produce mil spec 321 stainless have been bought by soros and his group. We were notified about a year ago that they would no longer take orders from companies that do less than 250k/year purchases from them. We’ve banded together with the two other small companies in the us and we buy 250k of material and they buy it from us.
Reasons this sucks. The 4 large companies were all purchased and are now 1 company. 2 of the companies were completely shut down, tooling destroyed, employees fired. The other 2 operate under the same name and have doubled their pricing. There are now just a handful of us left worldwide and all the manufacturing ability and knowhow is quickly disappearing. Its already been impossible to hire anyone competent in the past 10 years, looks like that will get worse.
business is booming. We have a full schedule for january already, but there are shortages everywhere in the industry, from clamps, engine components (one of the big engine manufacturers has been bought out by a chinese firm) materials to hardware and consumables.

look to see this in other industries. With the interest high groups are sinking capitol into farmland, land, metal and wood mills, processing plants, etc. if something bad happens this may the nail in the coffin of America’s manufacturing might.

anyone else seeing these investment groups in their industries?

Hey I thought your new kid was pretty decent! 😆

Like many have said it’s a different world working for a government agency. You will be amazed at how inefficiently things are done. If you can deal with that you’ll be ok. Don’t worry about CalPers they aren’t going anywhere. As long as you plan on staying for many years you’ll have a great pension when you retire. I retired after 20+ years and it’s awesome

This is a great point. Legitdooner, if you have ever worked for a corporate employer, full of tiers of bosses, katty bholes who will run to HR, and rules posted all over the place, all the while running inefficiently, you might have a feel for government employment.

The phrase I’ve heard the most while in leadership training programs, is plan for the lowest common denominator. Ie, if that dip chit that no one likes because they’re incompetent has to get this done, make it so even he can accomplish the task.

I've been self-employed for the last 23 years and I have an opportunity to work as a specialist and enforcement official in my industry. Just wondering how it is working for the state? Looks like all the bennies are under CalPERS. I thought they were going bankrupt? Or at the very least severely underfunded. Has that changed?

Just looking for some guidance on what to expect working for the state (Department of Consumer Affairs to be exact). The good, the bad, and the ugly. I feel like I've seen a few people here that do work there, so thought I'd ask my dune brothers and sisters!

The offer has me twisted in knots as I find it very hard to quit things. My business has been my baby but over the last 3-4 years my industry has completely changed and burned me out. No love for small businesses here, unfortunately.

Appreciate any insight you can give me!

I’ve been a State of CA employee for the last 16 years. CALPERS was 72% as of first quarter 2023, which admittedly has probably gone down a bit since then as their investments are market based. What that means, essentially, is if no one continues to pay into the retirement system, they can afford to pay 72% of their members their pension benefits. Not too bad in my opinion considering I don’t see teachers, public safety workers, CalTrans, Corrections Officers, etc stopping their future contributions.

if you have owned your own business for the last 23 years, you’re likely on the downhill slide towards retirement as it is. So starting to pay into a pension plan this late in the game may not give you a ton of benefit when you consider you will probably be accruing 2% per year.  That means if you’re making $100k per year when you retire after 5 years, your pension check will only be $10k per year before taxes. And that’s assuming you retire at or beyond the required retirement age.

The other benefits such as medical, dental, and vision are pretty outstanding. Those benefits along with paid time off hours, are set in a memorandum of understanding contract between your agency and the collective bargaining unit for that job classification. More than likely one represented by SEIU who don’t always put forth equal efforts for each unit and classifications.

  13. Big Ry’s fireworks in winterhaven, CA just outside of Yuma, AZ just off the 8 on your way to glamis. It’s on the Rez and will sell all the big chit. I have no idea what a good deal is, but fireworks seem expensive to me anyway.

Oh, and my dogs hate them too, so light them off somewhere far far away please.

  14. It’s the price, bud. I know how much you have into it with a lot of really nice and expensive upgrades. The problem is sxs buyers, especially used car buyers, aren’t well informed and don’t have a way to spend that much dough. They need to finance it which the manufacturer isn’t going to help them do like they would in a dealership.

So you’re selling to (largely) uninformed buyers without $35k cash money on hand and they can’t sign and drive.

All that said, facebook marketplace seems to be the current hot spot for selling vehicles.

  15. I drive them just about every day and it’s a good thing we have a fleet of them. Typical dodge problems. The interior pieces can’t handle heat so they’re all warped and pulling away from their bonding agents. Can’t keep heater cores in them without filling the passenger side floorboard with sweet coolant. Headlight assemblies and washer fluid bottles are discontinued from Mopar and you’re probably going to need one or the other in short order. The brakes have 3 or 4 good stops in them before the pads turn into sticks of butter and you have to let them cool down. If you keep your foot on the brake pedal while they’re cooling the rotors will surely warp. Power is good and the transmissions seem to hold up ok.
