When you broke another belt how did the new clutch cover hold up? Are thinking of running without the cover as you think the belt is getting too hot? Or just for easier access? Definitely not the easiest cover to get off and out of the way. The belt you blew was that the GBoost or a stock Kawi belt?
I’ve read other say the fuel light starts flashing with about 5gal left, so 1/3 of a tank. Seems too soon to me. I could see with 2 gal left.
After seeing Chupacabras reel I’d stay away from Aftermarket Assassins H2 stuff right now. Muffler cracked at the pipe, and compared to the other’s exhaust it did not look like as good. And Chupa thinks the AA tune is wrong too and was not happy with customer support.
It was a OEM belt that blew and I was running the cover that already had a hole in it. I will run the good cover when I go to the desert. Two reason for no cover - 1) much easier to change a belt and 2) I think the secondary gets too hot when getting after it on a dune run.
For the life of me I do not understand why Kawi did not put any cooling fins on the secondary to help move the hot air out the duct and help dissipate the heat.. The clutch gets plenty of air flow as the primary is not nearly as hot as the secondary. Also think the stock belt needs to be about 1/8th longer and that would help with the heat as well.
When I was cruising on the sand highway to duners diner (speed were 50-70mph) the clutches were warm, but not hot and the belt was warm. The load on the car is much less and RPMs were in the low to up 7000 range. Now when we were ripping around the dunes the load is much greater and the secondary was hot even with the clutch cover off. You could put your hand on it and hold it there but it was definitely hotter.
I know the Gboost belt runs cooler from my last trip, but you do loose some top end. I am waiting for Evo to release the Alpha belt for the H2.
These are dune issue with a person that is not going to go easy. Both trips the sand was wet which makes things worse. I would love to get a trip in the dunes with some dry sand and see if I have issues. I do believe in the desert the belt will not be an issue as you do not put as much of a load on the belt.
Bummer for Nick and the AA tune. He said when he first put the tune the car was moving and very responsive.
I am in no rush to get a tune on the car. The KWI weights really wake up the car and almost feels like you put a new tune in the car.
Suspension wise I think the front shock valving and bypass porting makes for it being too soft. It will blow through the compression way to easy in "firm setting".
