What are you guys doing to seal up where the bracket on the adapter plate meets the engine (marked in red)? A liberal amount of RTV on the inside and outside?IMG_3250.jpegIMG_3249.jpeg

The sand is coming in from the top. The bent sheet metal piece bolted to your adapter is typically enough for the bottom. Clean up the mess, install a new seal, and plug the highlighted holes with a finger full of silicone.

Do you think that much would come in just from the two open holes?

If it's been a couple seasons since the trans was out, or seal replaced, yes. If it could get in through the bottom, it would likely leave that way too.
