To add to this ^^^^ I read yesterday that Obama just added a very large propane tank on his Martha's Vineyard mansion at a cost of $75k (info gleaned from public permits).

Tells you how much he believes in solar or wind?

Could he possibly be preparing for something?

Read this too. 2500 gal commercial tank. Even the planning committee that approved it said they were surprised at the size of the tank for the island.

Im guessing the Obamas think propane comes from tinker bells fairy farts and not from big bad oil. Total hypocrites! Just proves they don’t give a crap about this fake Green agenda they are pushing.

Guarantee anyone else that would have tried this would have been told a big NO!  The council would have probably freak out do to the safety of that large of a tank and notified the FBI.

  2. I would think the majority of people are going to be effected and reduce any and all vacations. I’d expect less river trips this summer for those who go. Less family summer trips for those who do those. The desert is pretty far out and I’m afraid we are going to have bigger issues then can I afford to fill up the RV for the desert.

AAA just came out and said their study has shown people are cutting back in several ways. Cutting back on discretionary trips to the store. Trying to group places they need to go into one trip. Cutting back on going out dining.

If people are doing that now, then I’d say filling up an RV or tow vehicle with $400 is gas to just get somewhere, is probably going to stop or be less frequent. Then if your destination requires more gas for a boat or some sort of recreational vehicle, that will only add to the decision to not go, or go less.

Right new we see this as only a gas pricing issue and a inconvenience. But wait until the petroleum cost his the plastics industry. Wait until we start seeing transportation issues with getting products and food to the stores. Wait until our country admits they allowed our grain surplus to be shipped overseas and we have lost our reserves and the wheat production they have yet to discussed hits us.

Gas and going to the desert, river or that family reunion is going to be the last thing we are discussing.

@NIKAL did you ever finish yours? I am wrapping up paver this week. Shade structure is built and now it is time to start designing the bar/cooking area.

Yes I did. I worked @Pete@Islands in the Sun He did a great job. Mine was a bit more basic vs what Dunerking did. I just did a bbq and some cabinet does and drawers. It does have a nice seating area for 6-7 people.  I’ll post up some finished pictures as I just realized I don’t have any close up with everything finished.

Who did you use for your pavers and shade structure?

I have three Ring cameras for the last 3 years, zero issues.  Multiple people can look at the videos.  Each person can adjust their notifications as well.  I have one with batteries, they only last a couple of months, recommend hard wired for power source.  My house had security lights already, I just replaced them with ring cameras with Security lights.

Same here. My wife set her notices for only the door, where I get it for everything. The only complaint I have it’s at times I get an alert and it can take awhile to go live. Sometimes by the time I get on live the Amazon or UPS guy is walking away or in the driveway.

Overall though I’ve had great luck with Ring. I did have one camera that went off line. It was the only battery one I have. After charging the battery it would not restore. I called Ring (Great & fast customer service, no bouncing you around in India crap!) they tried to get it to come back online and could not do it. They shipped me a new camera and a return tag to send the old one back at no charge. Can’t beat that!

My front yard is good sized and I have two cameras with overlapping coverage, then the door bell that slightly overlaps one camera. So there is no getting around it. The backyard has one camera that covers most of the yard, but not good enough to ID someone from a far. A second camera would be better, but my primary focus was the pool area. If someone was to fall in or drowned, we would get an alert and have a recording of it. Plus I can see my pool maintenance guy and know exactly how long they are spending and what they are doing. Lol! I have a great pool service company that actually tracks their techs, so they don’t half ass it. The last camera is focused on the RV side of the house. I’ll already know your there from the front or rear cameras, but I’ll see what your doing once in the RV & trailer area.

  5. Don’t know much about this but a good friend of mine many years ago did a debit consolidation? At the time they did not own a home. Their debit was all about luxury items. Car’s & truck payments, Toyhauler payments, horse trailer, personal loans, several cc etc. Doing this did not get any of it forgiven, but I don’t think it hurt his credit either, or not a bad? Just put everything into one lower interest payment and forced them to sell what is not needed and cut up the credit cards. Again I’m not sure how it all works, but it worked for them.

  6. 01 Silverado 4.8 @ 266k miles, original motor & trans. It’s  my daily driver. With this many miles I don’t chance towing over the I-8 grade as it’s not worth it. I figure at 300K I will pull the engine and rebuild it and do the same with the trans. Then I’ll drive & tow it like it’s brand new. Some say it’s not worth it, but what’s new cost? $50-$60K?

  7. Here is the front yard turf. This was something I found and Steve at Turfworx’s was able to bring it in for me. It’s not something he stocks. I wanted the most real looking turf in the front as everyone sees it. Most people question if it’s real or fake. Biggest down side is it’s a bit stiff due to blade shape so not as soft to walk on barefoot. Other down side was the price vs the others he stocks.

Thank you so much for your help. It is greatly appreciated. I will be giving them a call. I am new to this so I’m sure they can walk me through the ins and outs!

No problem. I learned allot over the years from them. I was one of Turfworx first customers. If you really want to get into it they can explain the different colors, blade shapes and what that does and how much fill you will need. Then you have your ounce, and hight.

Here is an example of my backyard turf area. I think this one’s called Romona? It’s got multiple greens, with one being olive, and then a brown thatch. This gives it a more true turf color. This would be a 2 inch high

  9. Turfworx in El Cajon. Owner is Steve. They are wholesalers but you can walk in buy direct. They now have installers that can help you, or if you have an installer you want to use, then you can just buy your turf & materials and Turfworx can deliver to the job.

I’ve done several jobs with Turfworx. I buy direct and have other installers do the install. Most installers are independent, so the guys I use work for the majority of the big name Turf companies.  Originally Turfworx started out as only going to be wholesalers for installers, or walk ins. But demand requested he offer installs so now he also offers installs if you chose to use his crews, and allot do.

Great quality turf, at wholesale and not the cheap crap with inflated pricing. Lots of styles to chose and they will give you nice size samples to take home.

Let me know if you have any questions?

I also have great contacts with Pavers, contacts for full tilt bad ass patio covers like you see on a lodge,  (allot of people s#it when they see my patio cover.) and I also have contacts for the aluminum covers too. (All San Diego area)

  10. Heard on the news he was having pains in his back too. This is the first time having to withdraw since coming back this last year. Bummer, but like Reslbadlarry mentioned he’s luck to be walking the course period.

"hard wired" with regards to power source or a cable that goes to the router?

Hardwired could mean both power and video. But in the case of Ring or Wyze they mean just power cable. They both work off the wifi. On my house my Ring cameras are 120v plug in just so I don’t have to worry about charging battery’s, plus like mentioned powered cameras typically have a few more features. No I do have one camera in the back that is on battery, but it does not get triggered as often, was not near power so battery powered was the best for that location.

  12. I have Ring. I know your not wanting more then cameras to check on your mom, but Ring does have just cameras that would allow more then one user to access. They make a indoor camera that’s 120v but it’s only $59. They also have battery powered indoor/outdoor cameras (called Stick up camera) $99.

Also another really nice feature is the two way talk. So if you needed to you could speak to your mom through the camera. If you saw she fell you could tell her someone is on the way and she could tell you if she was hurt.

The nice part of Ring is the cloud access  and they continue to add more things and updates. A nice feature that could be helpful for your mom is Ring works with some Schlege & Kwikset keyless locks, so you could unlock the door if you needed a neighbor or paramedics to get in and check on her if you can’t get there.

I’d just suggest checking out Ring to and see what they have to offer,  and see if it might work for you? They have allot of stuff and continue to add more.

  13. I’m still driving a 01 Silverado 1500 with 266K miles on it. I keep it by choice and still like my old basic truck.

I think about a new truck all the time. But will a new 1/2 ton get 250+K miles on original power and drive train?

Then I see the prices and that discourages me from going to look. Plus if I test drive a new truck, it’s going to be hard getting back in my 01 Silverado!

  14. Wait until you see what the insurance is going to offer you, and see what that same year Camry is going for on used car sites, Craigslist etc. You might be surprised what you could get for it. Used car values are up 48% from 2 years ago. You might be able to get a better car.

A friends wife’s 2014 Explorer got water damage in the electronics earlier this year. (Sunroof leaked into the dash) The dealer could not figure it out and the insurance decided to total it. They originally were going to pay out $20K and then within a month they came back and paid out $22K as the value had increased. He went back and looked, they bought it as a dealer lease return from Ford in 2016 and paid $26k & change. 6 years later it only deprecated $4k in this current used car market value.

  15. I don’t know if it’s highly suggested or just preference. But a friend who lives in Descanso and is on septic only uses a septic safe toilet paper. I guess all toilet paper will break down, but the septic safe paper breaks down quicker?

True, semi gloss will "hold up" better, but semi on walls looks looks cheap and apartmenty.

Agree that’s why I prefer a egg shell on interior walls vs semi gloss as the egg shell is still washable like Semi gloss, but does not have that shine. Simi is used in the bathrooms where you have a higher moisture level.

Exterior I have semi on the trim, but flat/ egg shell on the stucco. That keeps the stucco from looking painted, and with the extra additive you can get the water & stain repellant.

You must be younger than I. I remember going out to Ocotillo and everyone would sit on each other's lap in four seat buggy's. Helmets were optional on the atc's..

I’m 50, but maybe because my family raced Baja from the mid 70’s that we just grew up putting seat belts on. I do remember not wearing helmets on the 110 ATC. Plus we never wore a helmet in the buggy. But 4 & 5 point harnesses were never a question.

Either way it’s sad to hear when a life is taken doing something we all love and take for granite.

  18. Sucks to hear. If the case of no seat belt, it’s just another senseless death that should have never happened.

Maybe because I grew up going to the desert, but not wearing a seat belt has never been an option or thought. You would think with the seatbelt laws we have for on the road, that it would be second nature to just put it on.

If they were part of a movie set or crew, I’m sure we will hear more about it.

  19. Price ls very, depending on size, one story, two story. Doing just fascia's or doing full house like stucco, doors & garage doors etc.

I did mine about 6-8 months ago. The guy I use JK painting out of Alpine is not known for being cheap, but he’s very good. Family has been using him for many, many years. His prep it top notch, which is a huge difference in a good job and a great job. Things like pulling lights off the walls, pulling loose gutter down spouts, removing address numbers, if painting doors pulling the door handles & locks. His interior painting is very good too. Interiors cost way more as there is more wall & ceiling sq footage vs exteriors. I never thought about it until he told me.

He only uses SW paints. Emerald is the top exterior paint. IMO it’s worth the extra cost as it will hold its color longer and not fade as quick as other paints. Plus on the stucco they can add an additive that repels water and stains. Again just adds more to the costs.

I have neighbors who have saved as much as $1500-2000 compared to what I paid last year. No idea of the brand of paint they used? I know one was Dunn Edwards. On a few houses their stucco crack repairs look horrible and looks like two tone stripes after painted. You can’t see any of my stucco crack repairs. We had the typical hairline cracks at the corner of windows. Also JK caulks all the joints which not all painters do. My house is almost 2400ft and using all SW Emerald, two colors and 3rd on my front door was around $7800. At the time there was a paint shortage, but he was able to get what we needed, and the prices weren’t jacked up like they are now. No idea what the cost might be now? Another 25% more?

By doing the 30 yr loan and paying an extra payment a year against Principle, you can lower your term to an 15-17 year loan and have a larger interest write off............I was told this by someone a lot richer than me, so I trusted them.:classic_blink:

I currently have a 30 yr loan at 2.6%, I pay an extra payment once a year, but I am going to start doing this twice a year when my last kid is thru college (two more years)

There is no penalty to pay off the loan early

One extra payment a year will not take a 30 year loan down to 17, especially at the low interests rates we are at. Yes it’s a smart strategy to pay one extra payment (13th payment) a year directly to principal. It will shave off several years on a 30 year loan, but not half.

We were just in year 4 of a 30year loan when we refinanced. We did a 20 year which essentially took 6 years off. Even with the lower interest rates our payment was going to go up. I was able to pay down the loan to keep our payments the same. It’s a comfortable number we can make. I was looking at a 15 year term, but was concerned with not leaving us enough cushion if we had another bill like a new car or whatever enter our life. Plan still is to make the 13th payment which if we do each year should shave off a couple years.

  21. Heard this insane plan is scheduled for two more locations in San Diego.

All it’s going to take is one head on crash or a bicyclist to get hit as a car had to swerve in the bike lane to avoid a head on crash and a $30 million lawsuit against the city and this nonsense will end. Whoever is pushing this needs to be fired and prosecuted if someone is hurt or suffers property damage.
