  1. Anyone in here own a place at either RV park and care to give some feedback?  With the recession coming into play I have been thinking about getting a place in either of these parks.  We have younger kids so I kinda dig the community atmosphere and private ramps/docks that come with it.  Most of our friends have RV's so it would be nice that others could easily join us if we plan far enough in advance.

We have done a full range of places, and I always enjoy being right on the water most vs having to deal with a public ramp and trailer back to the house.  I figure cost is about a wash being they have monthly lease, but you get some added perks for that.

  2. Cheapest would be the Fiat 500e.  2013-2019.  Had mind for 3 years now.  Gets 80-110 miles of range.  Can be had from $8k-$18k.  Only problem is you have to get them with really dark window tint so your friends don't see you driving it....

My last truck I had the build sheet sent to a Montana dealer for pricing. They had a fair price with no sales tax, but by the time I did the entire prosses it didn't save enough to make me jump on it over the price I received from my local dealer with tax. Now a 500k motorhome would make you think. Plus, license fees are very high here. One friend just didn't register or plate his mh. The fine was cheap if stopped and he never was.

I know of multiple people who only ever tow a box trailer / stacker behind their moho and have NEVER registered their $500-$1M+ busses.  The reward heavily out weighs the risk.

How are you transporting the antenna to all these places? Or are you taking it in your Motorhome and driving to these sites? I'm asking because I'm planning to put Starlink on my boat in Alaska and my RV down here. I obviously never use the boat and RV at the same time so if I can accomplish this with one system that would be great. But I don't want to have transport the antenna back and forth every time.

I have it in a husky box from home depot that I take with me.  If you google Starlink travel case you will get a hundred different ideas.  I checked it on the plane when I went to Wyoming. The small inverter also fits in that box along with a long ratchet tie down.  Husky box is water proof so I could strap it to the roof if needed.  The thought was I could take it anywhere with those 2 items and could get service with any vehicle or a 12v source.  We had 6 guys in a rental navigator when we did our middle of Wyoming trip to a friends remote cabin.  Took a work call in the outhouse using wifi calling lol.

Here is the inverter I have confirmed works perfectly.  Because cell service was 45mins away we filled the car up and would let the engine run while we used it just to be sure we didn't get stranded.

  5. I have starlink RV.  It works everywhere.  Confirmed in the middle of nowhere in Wyoming with nothing but a small cigarette outlet (pure sine wave) inverter and a rental car with it sitting on the roof, a house boat in the middle of Lake Powell, Mexico on the beach, Lake Havasu on a holiday weekend, and Glamis over Vets.  I pause the service when I don't need it.  Used it to stream the ASU UOA game in Mexico this last Friday and watch some world cup.

Axia alloy makes an RV ladder mount for it.  I have a really fancy one I made from HD and 1-1/4 EMT.  I think I spent $5.  It survived that nasty monsoon that hit Havasu over Labor Day with 65 Mph winds.

Starlink.  Not sure what you need to know.  I use it every trip while I'm vending.  I need reliable phone and internet while I am out there working, and it has never let me down. :ez:

First rule of fight club... lol.

    Zero issues over vets.

My kids power wheels are all running off my Makita power tool lithium batteries.  No noise and endless power for them.  If they put it in high gear they can do burnouts.

My home phone never died when it was plugged into the wall with a long curly cord either though.

Dumb me listened to my sons to camp at wash 4 Thurs night.  Mistake!  Party circle down a little blasting music till 4:30 AM AND looked out cause of course cant sleep and those Effers are in there RV/Trailers sleeping and left the music full blast!  Packed up at crack of dawn moved to wash 6/7   wide open nice and quiet very few rigs.  Along came a group at 5PM of about 20 people  25 year olds tenting with one can am a few bikes etc setting up in front of us!! WTF the whole wash is open!  All good till 1AM EXACTLY and it was Techno Concert LIVE!  I mean gens running pushing tower/monitor speakers so big you felt the bass!  Of course they partied till 5:30AM.  Crack of dawn and I once again move to then end of the wash.  Noticed a few of the other circles packed and moved some where else also later that AM.

Worst trip in 20 years camping at the washes.!!!  I thought coming an off weekend I'd get some peace and quiet. Wrong.   At least my new electric power steering I installed on my SCU worked great! Night and day difference turning and not feeling the chop.

I was in Wash 4 this weekend also.  Oddly enough the night they played music until 4:30am I went to bed around 10:30-11. It was too hot to sleep so I turned on my gen to cool off the bus and started watching tv.  Next thing I know it was 4:30am and I was still on the couch freezing my ass off with the ac and gen still running.  Turned the gen off and heard the music blasting.  I slept great... lol

  9. I bought mine when gas was super cheap back in 2020.  Fiat 500e.  Cheapest EV being sold.  Almost throwing them away.  $5k off lease with 20k miles on it and they had like 30 to choose from.  They were shipping them from Cali to AZ.  Now they are selling for 13-15k.  Only has a range of 70-110 miles per charge depending on the weather out.  I was ready to buy a Tesla but decided to just use this as my test bed.  Its a blast to drive.  Its like driving one of those electric go-karts every day.

Still have my go fast toys, but this thing is just so easy to own.  They are not a solution for everything yet but the tech is on its way.  A Hybrid HD truck would be amazing.  No brake pad use - Recaptured energy.  Plentiful TQ thats instant.  Do away with transmissions.  No more seals, gaskets, fluids, etc.  I think this is where it at with current battery tech.  There are many prius out there with millions of miles.

I drive my Dmax At4 only when I have to.  Not racking up miles but have it available when I need it.

Little update, a few of my regular group decided to go, so looks like we are going to be up on Osborne, feel free to stop by for a beer or go for a ride. I appreciate the offers, and still plan to go on a ride with you guys.

We are heading out tomorrow and staying in the washes.  I think we just have 4-5 cars.  Glad to know your at osborn if we need parts or run out of beer.  :classic_biggrin:

  11. You need to check your math.  Most Tesla's are 70-100KW packs.  So even dead at $.13 p/KWh is $13.

If they had their level 2 charger (50 amp service) they would have made that up much quicker.

You cant beat an electric car for cost of ownership.  It's not possible.  I have one and only pay $.08 p/Khw.  I can go over 300 miles for less then $5.  I put new tires on and an air cabin filter.  Thats it.

Im heading to costco now to fill up my bus and toy tank.  I expect $500 to make a 500 mile round trip for Glamis and sand car fuel.

  12. Most don't know about them, but if you can find a FIAT 500e they are absolute the lowest cost to own car on the road.  Mine just turned 40k miles.  Its all electric and I get about 70-110 miles on a charge if I am not messing with V8 cars (its crazy fast).  I just calculated out what it cost to drive 40k miles and it came out to just under $900 in electrical costs.  I use it to bid jobs so no need for more than the 110 mile range.   I bought it for 6k in 2020.

Its like driving a track car because the weight is all down low.

    Has a 24kW battery.  SRP is average $.0841 a KW.  24x.0841 = $2.01 to go 70-110 miles.

HOV plates in AZ and costs $35 to register a year.

I did also just change the cabin filter, but other then that there is ZERO maintenance.  No oil, no engine, no trans, no brakes (It uses regen brakes until like 5mph).

  13. I painted my house in AZ last week.  4000 sqft.  Used SW Resilience.   I went down and paid for the paint using the painters account.  He got a huge discount.  Paint was just under 2k in costs and I paid 5k in labor.  They did all the stucco repairs, silicone, tape, etc.

Probably could have haggled for a little cheaper, but they were able to start the week following the bid.  They also did this thing most contractors dont do these days... They showed up on time every morning!

I paid some of the labor in cash, and some in check.

    Turned out killer.

  14. Not sure what they are going to do yet.  Both drivers were cited for failing to yield (left turn) other driver blew through the red light.

Bedside is crunched, rim is broken, drive line was ripped out, and axel was moved back on the spring pack about 6 inches.  I dont see any crumple spots on the frame.  I could fix it easily.  If they say the frame is bent then im sure it will be totaled and I will still buy it back.  Its a Tacoma so they are impossible to find for a decent price.

Its a work truck so as long as it has AC and is safe to drive its going back out.  Most of these trucks get 500k miles and parts are easy to come by.  If you have employees you know no one treats your vehicles like you do.

I have a spare work truck we use just for reasons like this one so I do have time.  I have State Auto.

  15. So unfortunately one of my fleet trucks was Tboned this week.  My employee was fine, but truck will need some work.  Not sure if they will total it or not.  Its been about 12 years  since I have had to deal with an adjuster when it comes to totaling out a vehicle.

My trucks are bought and paid for so ideally I will want this one back either way.  Has a new transmission and only 160k on it.

Anyone have an advice when it comes to dealing with insurance adjusters?

    :lmao:

    Well when its time... 1 EarthX = 2 PC925.  1 Earth X = 6.9Lbs.  1 PC925 = 28LBS x 2 = 56lbs.  So its kinda like carrying around a 50lb bag of sand.  🙂
