What is this front blowout system?

Am super anal about my tires. Check air pressure before we head out on a trip, and check them before we head home. Try to change the tires out every 5 years. (Don’t forget about that spare tire), I have!) All this seems to have worked for me & our Motorhome.

Then last year heading out to the desert I got about 12 miles from home on I-8 and we had a front tire blow out at 65 with the buggy trailer in tow. Pretty scary, loud as hell and did $18K in damage and took about 6-7 months to finally get all the parts, and repaired.

Also when I put 6 new tires on it, the tread and sidewalls looked fine, but once the tires where dismounted, we saw another tire were the casing was breaking down on the inside. This is most likely what was happening to the front tire that just blew out. It failed from the inside.

One of my upgrades was to add the Safe T Plus steering stabilizer. It’s suppose to help keep you going strait in a blowout or on bad roads. Have not had the chance to see how or if it helps in the wind. Definitely takes some time getting used too, as it changes the feel of the steering.

    Learned about these recently:

  2. Yup, it sucks. Beeline long gone, Now Firebird(Wildhorse Pass). Even losing Speedworld was a bummer. I guess Tucson is still going.

To think it was a spur of the moment Winter vacation to see AHRMA races at Firebird that led to us moving to AZ.

Newer Diesel RV's already have the "DEF" system? I believe the "DEF system actually cleans the air it takes in to a cleaner exhaust. I don't know nor do I GAF. LOL

Moving out of here in the near future...

The DEF is strictly to reduce NOx(Oxides of Nitrogen)emissions. Though it can fail, like any system, the upside is it reduces the amount of EGR they have to use, AND it allowed them to add some timing back into the tune which gives back power and MPG lost to the earlier heavy EGR setups. The cleaning is done by SCR(Selective Catalytic Reduction), including the DOC(DIesel Oxidation Catalyst), and the DPF(Diesel Particulate Filter). Regenerations are done to de-soot the DOC.

Here is a diagram of the Ram/Cummins setup from a training seminar:

Interesting? I figured it was a partnership as in one of those weekly videos Justin does, someone asked about Fox buying ST, and Justins response was he still owns ST but that Fox & ST have a support & engineering partnership, and that you will be seeing more things coming out of ST. That’s why I assumed Fox did a partial buy in and not a complete buy out.

Can you fine anything on the Walker Evans deal? I’ve only heard it by rumor that it happened? But never saw an official announcement. Zak with SXSGuys is really good about finding things, like patents, accidental PR or photo dumps. He found accidental Pro R pictures almost a year before it was released. He found or was leaked to him this rendering that looked like was for the Fox/Walker shock announcement. But neither camp would officially confirm.

Have not heard anything about a Walker Evans deal, but will do a little digging. On the ST thing, I won't derail this any further by giving my opinion about anything JS says.

Nope, not like rent a wheel. Some years back they pretty much bought up most of the wheel manufactures.  Clearwater is the parent company (Big investment firm)and yet “wheel pros” One of their 20 odd companies that they own just purchased four-wheel part and TeraFlex Off Road suspensions which is no small company. I believe Teraflex has around 240 employees in Utah. Clearwater purchased other smaller Off Road companies also. My understanding is on the companies they purchased about a year ago they farmed out over half of their products to China and of course raise the price up like crazy and now people are complaining about lesser quality of course. Simply just not a good thing at all.

    That's the MBA way!

  6. I don't know if Arai makes anything suitable, but they were adamant about fit, offered different models in round or long oval shell shape, and offered different size interior pads to tune the fit. My melon was saved by one at Pocono, so yeah I am a fan.

  7. Maybe contact Oklahoma DMV or the Sheriff's Office where the truck is? You'll need the name and address for the last known owner of record to go through the AZ bonded title process, won't you?

I had people try to trade stuff with no title out of OK, and always made them do the leg work and supply a valid title. Too much risk to end up with a slug.
