    Agree, very sad and surreal for sure... interesting how certain events are burned so deeply into our brains.  I suppose it's those tragic events that, while rocketing into space is risky stuff for sure, we never really anticipated anything going so horribly wrong.

    Yes... piece of fuel tank insulating foam broke off during launch and punched a hole in one of the reinforced carbon-carbon panels on the left wing leading edge.

    Oh absolutely, couldn't agree with you more.  Resorting to the strap around the tire thing would be one of those last ditch efforts, when all else fails/have nothing to lose kinda deals.  Assuming the strap-round-the-tire thing is a derivative of this... which, if you were hard core, wouldn't be a bad tool to have in your bag of tricks, as a backup to your electric/pto winch and lockers.

    LOL... the old one wheel wonder burnout or "powerbrake" burnout as some of us kids use to call them! To clarify, you are absolutely correct with regards to the unloaded tire just spinning... I was referring to the strap trick, specifically that having an open diff isn't necessarily a death sentence, but is something that you might be able to overcome. Heck, if you couldn't apply enough brake pressure to slow or stop the free-spinning wheel, disconnect the emergency brake cable from the stationary wheel and set the parking brake, vice-grip the cable or strap the spinning wheel up... force the diff to send torque to the other wheel.  Admittedly, unless you're somewhat mechanical and/or an avid, experienced wheeler, mom and pop out for a family adventure aren't likely to have the wherewithal to do any of this.  As kids, most of us couldn't afford a limited slip/posi much less real lockers, so we had to find workarounds, sometimes they'd work, sometimes not.  Today, hit the locker switch on the dash... problem solved, life is good. 

    Ref your one wheel peel, I'm guessing we- I mean your buddies were successful because the front brakes are so much more effective than the rear, producing significantly more holding power, so there was never enough resistance on the rear to prevent that RR from going up in smoke... oversimplifying I'm sure. Here's the wealthy man's version of the open diff old brake trick...

    Not true... apply brakes, might have to apply a little throttle as well to overcome the brakes, now both tires are loaded.

    Good point.  Homesteading the dump station?  Inconsiderate.  Using more water to clean out his poop tank than most of us use of fresh water on a 2 week dune trip?  Unnecessary.  Dump station entertainment value?  Priceless. :rofl:

    LOL... no, sorry to disappoint, but that's relevant how?  Could be wrong however, while we can certainly give credit to Brandon for record fuel prices, inflation, out of control spending/$5.2 trillion increase in national debt, unchecked "immigration", botched Afghanistan withdrawal and resulting deaths, etc., he gets a pass on the current water reservoir storage levels.  As for your lack of consideration for your fellow RV/duners at the dump station? That's on you, not Brandon.

    I'm just gonna chit in there again.  While I don't want kibbles and bits clogging the works up and causing problems, I'm not concerned if my brown guests find the place a little messy when they arrive.  A rinse with the hose at the end of the flush is plenty for me. :biggrin:

    Mac, don't listen to these people, they know nothing of which they speak!  I did a commercial ice machine 14 years ago, will never go without one.  Matter of fact, we turned off the ice machine in the fridge at home, never was a fan of the nasty, smelly, cloudy ice the comes out of those things.  Nothing like crystal clear, rock hard ice that comes out of a commercial machine!  I Have a Manitowoc SY0304A, have it sitting on a 400 pound bin... it's been a rock solid machine.  While very true, you can buy a ton of ice for what a decent ice machine and bin cost, it's got nothing to do with saving money.  I'm guessing, if you factor in the initial cost combined with operating and possible repair cost over the life of the machine, I don't think you'll ever come close to breaking even much less saving any money.  But the convenience and ice quality, without a doubt, makes it all worth it, to me anyway.  It was always such a pain in the ass, prepping for trips, flogging all day loading motorhomes, trailers, then the last thing you have to do is load up coolers.  Gotta run over to the store to pick up 25 bags of ice (half way through the trip, have to go into town for ice), haul ass to get it home while it's turning to water, like I said, just a pain in the ass.

    We bring a ton of ice with us on trips, load up one 144 quart cooler with just ice, two smaller soft coolers we use in the cars, then have two smaller 50-ish quart coolers, one with beers, one with sodas.  Also line two bins in the fridge freezer with clean trash bags, load them up with ice.  We always have ice filled coolers on every ride, drinks with ice in them at camp, after 10 days in the dunes, always come home with leftover ice.  Plus, I don't wait to the last minute to load up ice chests... I'll do that early on, at my convenience.  That way, everything gets cooled down, then before we hit the road, I drain the ice water out of the coolers and top them off with ice.   

    I went with Manitowoc at the recommendation of a buddy of mine who is a HVAC guy with some ice machine experience as well as local ice machine repair business.

    Haven't read it however, guessing it's like Az... if over 2500lbs, you don't get the reduced vehicle license tax ($3.00 in AZ), you pay full tilt on VLT to be street legal, just like you do on your Duramax.
