Power to weight with air bag setup is IMO the reason.  In the subi cars anywhere in the 350-450 HP is perfect. In the early gen4/5 v8 cars 400-550 HP.  In the late model gen5/6 500-800 HP is all you need.

When these horsepowers get pushed or engine swaps go from 4 cyl to v8 is when the balance is changed and the cars just don't dune as well as they used too.

Wheel base and vehicle weight are important as well as front to rear weight percentage.  I also feel the ride height has a lot to do with it. Funcos are relatively low and don't have all that travel other cars have.  Just don't need it to dune.  Kinda why you won't see a Funco advertised as a dual sport.

    agree with all Erik wrote

also , low center of gravity - especially in the earlier cars - and heavier items are located low in chassis (refer to John Rykowski's Outfront car/build thread)

airbags = accurate and refined driving experience

built as a complete thought, from front to back, bottom to top

  2. Whats your preference on hanging tools on the wall versus keeping them in a larger mobile tool box/ drawers

on the wall everything is right there visible - handy if you have/need a helper on a project

mobile tool box with drawers is clean and good for hauling out to driveway but always needs question and answer for where stuff is

    Also multiple sets of tools

my neighbor has a couple sets of tools - really well organized

I’ve got 3 sets and I’m needing to refine those too

I have a set for the buggy, my work truck, and my garage set

Im thinking I may create another one for the hauler as well, but crap that’s a lot of $$$ tools - but it will save from hauling tools back and forth

    What’s your approach

Here is mine. Was supposed to be a 30 x40 metal shop but the building department thought I was building a high-rise or a hospital with the amount of studies, inspections, engineering fire suppression etc. so I told them F you I’m just gonna put two storage containers and use that. So that’s what I did. Works great, I actually prefer working sort of outside.

    Some awesome set ups there
From the size of the space, the lighting and lifts, and the layout

Vehicles on wheel dollies is a great idea too

I did the same thing. Wheels on everything! Even my floor cabinets have casters on them. I made a plywood base with casters that our chest freezer sits on. I have Dorman type drawers that are my nut & bolt bins, again I built the stand from square tubing and put it on casters. I built my work bench out of steel and put a kitchen countertop on it. It’s on wheels and then has two 4 drawer lower tool boxes on wheels underneath it. My welding table, it’s on wheels! My drill press and hydraulic press are both on wheels.

If it’s not up high and bolted to the wall, it’s on casters. Heck even my Prerunner Baja bug sits on those car dolly’s.

Good advise on wheels - and lighting 👍🏼

Also hearing I need to reinforce the table

thinking I need a steel plate top on the tables too - have seen that in several shops
