You could've pocketed $15k and it still drives?

ya....somewhat - but check engine light came on, airbag lights (tho no airbag deployed) - so not really exactly sure what all was needed.  It could have cost me 2k to fix, but could have been up to 3 or 4k...im still torn if i made the right choice - but i have a lot of projects I'd rather work on in the next few months than fixing the truck.

Man - what a life...C10 cruising in Maui must be a blast.  Stoked for your brother!

  3. Geico started at 22k and after some back and forth - they ended up giving me 25,200...not bad for a truck I paid 28k for 6 years ago.  They wanted 7K to buy it back and I ended up passing on it....seemed like too much as I'd have to put another 2k into it...kind of nice to just move on.

If anyone has a decent commuter for 5k they want to sell let me know!

They make great power and super affordable, no argument.  But when I walk car shows and see a vintage vehicle with LS in it, I just lose some respect.  Really no idea why, just not my thing.  I think it is just how the top of the motor looks???  Now if you put an LSx in an old Mustang, I really lose respect, and I have seen that before as well :classic_biggrin:

Ya, somewhat agree...kind of trendy and boring looking for sure.  But some companies do a good job to make them look more old school / better...i like these guys...lots of pics on their site.

  5. Happy with my choice...you save some money with not buying the complete engine too...ebay and from a chevy dealer - I bought two from them and no issues - then pieced together all the other parts - and purchased things like injectors that come on the actual full LS3 / 525 from gm....In my case the pan that came with the engine worked out too in the C10.  Nice part was I already had a tune and just used the Holley terminator max.

  6. What's funny so far - I paid 28k out the door for my truck in 2018 - comps of same truck with similar mileage - 25k - plus tax ~ 27k is what would be an average payout.  I sent an excel file to the insurance company this morning.  Hoping for the best - which currently my plan would be - to get ~20k, and buy back truck for ~5k.  I should know more in a day or 2 and will report back.

that doesnt' mean much, we had 2 accidents and went round and round with insurance companies. i thought for sure my daughters was totalled and it was just under the

threshold to qualify. Depending on who the other company is is probably a big factor. I know on hers I had to pay the deductible because they couldn't get the other drivers fly by night company to call back, and it was just holding up progress on my end. we fought and fought with them, I got 1/2 mine back, and then they said we had to accept 1/2 liability.

she was backed all the way in the street when a hvac guy jumped in his truck, threw it in reverse and backed into her, he admitted fault for not looking and being in a hurry, and we had a witness that was stopped and saw it all and we still got screwed over. good luck to ya

In my case their insurance company assumed liability / assumed fault on the accident and all repair conversations are going through them.  I could have gone through my insurance company, paid a deductible, then would have had to fight to get my deductible back etc (as you described above). - but opted to wait a few days until their company assumed liability- which thankfully they did.  Long story short, it's my understanding this won't cost me a dime - just more of a hassle to deal with.....but if what had happened to you (other company ghosted me) - then ya, different game.

I have a fleet of work trucks.  chit happens with them CONSTANTLY.  Our last truck was Tboned in an intersection.  Bent the rear axel and messed up the bed but frame was fine.  In stead of taking the insurance claim (premium increase) I just ordered some replacement parts from the junk yard and fixed it.  Cost me $1000 and it still has a clean title.  Food for thought.  I would just fix that and not take the claim.

Front end collision, airbag, engine, etc, I would probably let them total it out and go to the wolves.

Thankfully in my case the other driver was at fault - as such the claim should be all positive for me? (no premium increase)

  9. My little commuter truck was rear ended last week and I was notified today it's going to be totaled.  I do know that the insurance company will / should allow me to buy it back for a discounted price (or so I've been told by countless others).

Should I buy it back - fix it myself for around 1000 in parts (car-part - already painted used parts) - and drive it with a salvage title? Then sell it eventually...seems like I could come out ahead 5 to 10k if I go this route.

I want a new truck (i like the new GMC canyons) - but hoping in the fall they will come down in price...supply is slowly increasing on them. Used to be only a few at dealers, now it's 10+ or more on average.

Nice.  How about a video of you driving it??

How much HP does the motor make?

It's the same motor I had dyno'd in my buggy and that was 495 to the wheels...so not sure on the truck. With the 2:73s and a 3000 stall it's odd...not really sure how fast it is yet as it will do 75ish in 1st gear if pinned...i have it shifting sooner than that in the software for now. Almost feels like I'm driving an old 2 speed.  Using it as a nice sounding cruiser for now basically. Regear to 3:73s and new suspension will make this thing fun to rip around...can't wait.

I did that the day it reset itself and the only user profile I could find was the one created that day.  So bummed.  I'll spend some time this weekend going through old emails looking for my docs I'd like to get back.

Doubtful, but I've seen it before - be sure you choose the options to view "hidden items" when you're in that user folder - if you're lucky, the old profile is just hidden...click view / show / hidden files

  12. Buy one of these kits - it essentially turns your hard drive into a USB drive - and then plug it into your desktop and see if it works.  If you're luck you'll be able to read the files - sometimes passwords are needed to access, sometimes not - wish I lived closer to you I'd try to help.

  13. FWIW you're missing out on a lot of potential knowledge and deals if you don't use Facebook....  It's not just about having "Friends" and posting meaningless information - there's marketplace to buy things, groups to learn, etc.  It's a tool to learn things and hunt for deals on items you want to buy.

Example -I'm a member of 4 or 5 C10 groups that have in some cases 40k members...pictures of builds, parts for sale, etc.  Found my truck on there for a great deal.
