central valley so knee deep in oil or farm boy work

I've been in Bakersfield 44yrs.... come get some!

I’ll honk and wave as I’m passing through. I’ll be stopping in Visalia, a little ways up the road.

  2. Well my Brothers, the deed is done. What started on October 25th 1983 has come to an end.
Today is my last day aboard MCAGCC/MAGTFTC and tomorrow I’ll be heading to the Central Valley to start a new journey with my granddaughter and get knee deep in my second retirement.

Did 20 years active duty then stepped straight into Government Contract and Civil Service with the Marine Corps. It’s been a long strange trip and it is ending a little sooner than I had anticipated but my hand was forced and fortunately I’m at a place in life where I don’t have to be subjected to human experiments if I don’t choose to do so.
Damn sure going to miss the camaraderie and esprit de corps but I’m looking forward to meeting some of you fine folks out on the trail and starting up some new friendships.

Now if Jeep would just hurry up and release Gobi, Gator, or Tuscadero for the Gladiator I can get on with my journey!

I'm hibernating.  It's freaking cold out and I don't feel like doing anything.

When you come out you should be able to play this effortlessly. I ain’t no guitar player but I know one when I hear it!

If they couldn't straighten it out on the national election, there is no way it can be an honest count on a state level.

I’ve driven through SlabCity on several occasions and oft wondered why it can’t be kept clean and more orderly? If it were possible I don’t see that being a terrible option. Just too much trash strewn around for me.

Worthless game, neither team will go anywhere this year.

Ummm, I think one of them went where only 14 teams get to go! I’d say that’s going a little somewhere. Been a bit since they’ve been there but at least this time they’re entering without a QB with a broken leg.

Gonna be some good games this weekend regardless of who you root for.

Speaking of irrigation and citrus trees, I don't know how your property is laid out or what's already there, but I worked with a guy who had a very nice orchard at his house and he explained to me that the leach field from his septic system is what did most of the watering. The citrus fruit and avocados he gave me were incredibly juicy with tons of flavor and he said they were also fertilized by the same waste water. I thought it was a pretty slick setup!

It’s all city sewer, water, etc. All of the utilities are underground. Makes the neighborhood very eye appealing. The fruit from the trees is very good. Going to be a huge change moving from single digit humidity up to someplace that always has dense fog advisories and heavy dew every morning.

    EGO may fit that description.

Good Lord they are proud of their product! They do have some combo sets that would fit my needs, and then the mower. But dang they are expensive.

While not offered in a kit, you can buy each item individually from makita using their 18V line. I have owned a dual line brushless string trimmer and a hedge trimmer (They sell a hedge trimmer/string trimmer set that swaps out the head, probably has an edger head available also) and both have been great tools with 5 amp hour batteries. I wouldn't even consider cordless electric if you will have a big property since you will be swapping batteries often but for a typical tract yard, they work great.

It’s only a quarter acre. I should be able to keep a handle on it. Going to have to get schooled up on irrigation and citrus trees. Her house has Navel oranges, Valencia oranges, and lemons. Several different types of palms and shrubs.

Just don’t want to keep paying a crew, and it’ll occupy some of my retired time.

  9. Figured I’d jump in here with a question kind of in the subject. Retiring for the second time here on the 31st. My yard tools here in the Mojave consist of a hulahoe, a garden rake, and a 48 inch landscaping rake. Moving up to Visalia and the wife is going to have to let Jorge, Jesus, and Jaime go. Not paying someone to do what I can do for free.

So here’s what I need from you experienced masses here on GD.com: I would like to find a set of battery operated tools that consist of a lawnmower, a weed eater that doubles as an edger, a hedge trimmer, and a pole saw. Is there any such a “kit”? Is there anything I’m leaving out or overlooking when it comes to lawn/yard care?

Haven’t owned a lawnmower since I moved off base and sold my 19 year old Craftsman gas mower back in 2001. Seems technology has changed, and not even sure you can buy a gas mower in California anymore.

I don’t mind going electric with my move but I would like a set of tools that all use the same battery. Thanks fella’s.

There are about five+ jeep dealers through the US that are selling about 6k below msrp.  In our case we have a 2022JL Rubicon wrangler on order with a vin number already in from a dealer in Idaho which is approximately a 16 Hour drive from LA. We’re estimating we will be picking it up in the beginning of February. $75 per person from LAX airport which is around the corner from us to fly up there on a Friday morning and then drive her back. 99% of the paperwork will be completed before we fly up there. Price is already set and locked in. I checked all the jeep dealerships within 150 miles and the best price I could get is MSRP. A ridiculous Santa Monica jeep wanting 10,000 above sticker. Most Jeep dealerships I ran into About a month or two ago want 1000 above MSRP but I’m used to paying right around 6000 below MSRP so we did our homework and found these dealerships that have a long-standing reputation for these deals through the US.

I’ve been dealing with Petersen myself along with Vally in SLC and of course Gupton in Tennessee. Just wish FCA/Stellantis wouldn’t have taken the Tread Lightly away. It’s hard to beat 8% below dealer invoice on a Wrangler or a Gladiator.
Mind boggling how many folks confuse Invoice and MSRP.
Gupton averages 75 to 100 custom orders per week so they are doing something right. Even with the TL temporarily on her of.

Congrats on your purchase. I’ll be ordering a Gladiator Mojave as soon as Gobi becomes available again. Or Tuscadero!

  11. Because the masks have worked so well up to this point. Fuggin idiots.

We have a guy at work, early 40’s, quite the physical stud, been gone for a couple weeks. Never gave it much thought, lots of folks in holiday mode anyway. Shows back up to work today, a slobbering mumbling gork. Face looks like a Scream mask. Knuckles dragging and all down in the dumps. Got his booster a few weeks ago. Y’all go get them shots though.

For the nonconformist in the crowd, if you must wear a mask but still want to breathe I suggest you get one of these. I have COPD and having had the Vid twice I cannot breathe at all in these cloth/paper masks that everyone is sporting. In the Shema mask I have no problems at all. And they don’t fog up your glasses.
