An oil change isn’t any different than any other vehicle on the road, Audis have a belly pan that needs to be removed to access the oil pan but that’s a 5 minute thing to do.  Tires are tires, some use run flats. Brakes can get spendy depending on the model, some of the upper level cars use Brembo brake calipers and typically will dish out the rotors and require replacement rather than resurfacing them but that’s not unique to Audi.  Other than filters I don’t see that keeping an Audi serviced would be a huge amount more than keeping any car in good running condition.  Broken engine mounts can be expected at 50,000 miles or so but again not unique to Audi. There is the cost of taking it to the dealer for your service though, which is a good idea in my opinion because the techs know the cars very well.  For dealer recommended services, always consult with the owners manual first before having anything done. Some services aren’t required but the dealers push them anyways to add to their bottom line, shocking huh?

Is the cost of ownership an issue when you’re considering a $100k sport sedan anyways? Lol

Fwiw, regarding Brembo brakes, Dodge Hellcats use them. They are serious pieces of hardware but there are drawbacks to performance.  If you drive them like they were intended they will wear out the front pads and rotors in 10,000 miles. The problem here is the cost of pads and rotors, a pad kit is $400 and the composite rotors are about $1,000 each.  So that’s a $3000 brake job haha.  Seen it more than once when they get traded in.   Add in another few grand when they need tires, and a few hundred more for a 10qt full synthetic oil change and you’ve got a car with 10k miles that needs $6000 worth of work before it hits the pre owned lot.

And then there’s that little thing with the microchips and lack of cars on dealers lots.  Cars are very hard to buy right now so keep that in mind.  The BMW dealer I drive by everyday seems to have a good inventory though, they (BMW) must have better connections for parts and materials than other manufacturers do.  Crazy stuff going on in the car market.

I just quoted replacement carbon ceramic front rotors for a 2018 RS3 last week. List prices were $1,172 for the pad set, $5,940 for the left rotor and $7,066 for the right rotor.....

Now as long as you don't run the pad backing plates into the rotors, the rotors will generally last at least 100k miles and multiple sets of pads.

  2. I remember a couple summer trips back in the day when it was over 120*F. Fired up the genny and both roof airs in the 5er when leaving El Centro Friday and they didn't shut down till Sunday. All windows covered with Reflectix so it was basically pitch black in the trailer and super comfortable. Burned A LOT of gas in the genny those weekends but the sand and riding was worth it.

  3. Probably one of the most reliable rigs you could buy. 06 didn’t seem to suffer the cluster issues as often as the 03/04 models did. You may not need it but if you could get it for the right price, would suggest it.

BatteriesPlus sells some East Penn/Deka labeled as Duracell. Sam's might, also.

Must be an issue with East Penn then as all the Sam's around here are out of them as well. I'll keep an eye out if they come back in stock.

Fwiw i had deka’s in my excursion and they barely lasted 2 years. Having much better luck with walmart maxx batteries.

I got the deka’s from east county diesel. Bring a bottle of lube, nothing is cheap from east county diesel

Huh weird. I've had really good luck with the SS version. Hell the one in the ol ZJ lasted 7 years and it sits A LOT. Finally replaced it end of last year with another one.

I sold Exide way back when I was a Deere dealer, and they were pretty good, but more recently in the powersports business we sold thousands of Deka batteries, and their failure rate was amazingly low. Made in USA, too.  East Penn has an on/off relationship with Wally World, but some of their batteries have been East Penn/Deka.

I have access to Exide batteries through one of our venders but they're a bit more expensive so I haven't hit the checkout button on them yet.

  5. Looking for a pair of Deka 34/78 AGM batteries (9A78DT to be specific). Anyone have a dealer they recommend in SD? I usually get the Super Start Platinums from O'Reilly's but they have been on forever backorder so looking at other options, including the Napa Legend too. (the Deka, the Napa Legend and the SS Platinum are all the same battery from East Penn, SS just offers the best warranty of the 3)

    Thanks

  6. Gonna be really hard to beat the amazing ride quality of the Raptor that you've gotten used to. They all make nice trucks but the Raptor is just a different beast that no one can match. Except maybe the TRX with that bonkers power. And I'm a Chevy guy, lol

Ive become quite the fan of old Centurions - yours looks cool! The new ones are are sick too. Floated with a couple up at the end of Navajo Canyon in 2020 with a new sparkly blue one - oh man we were drooling. One of our friends is redoing his 89 Barefoot Warrior - will see if there are a few pics to post.

On that note - I think mine is a Barefoot Falcon Bowrider. Cant find it anywhere online, but thats as close as we've been able to come :dunno:

So I'm not the only one that has discovered the lack of info on these old things? Mine is an 86 Concourse Skier with the Commander Marine 300 (Ford 351W). I've been told that mounting a tower is not recommended due to the way the top is attached to the bottom hull and after this past summer's project of removing the bow rail and replacing the forward cleats, I see why! It is not glassed together, rather just uses rivets, screws and silicone!

Just your typical ski boat. Open bow outboard, which I think is cool and unique. I have hardly any pictures of it!

    That's a rad setup! Cool!

Best mine has ever done is 44 on glass with no wind and the secondaries on the carb screaming. Ski boats, especially inboards, leave so much hull in the water that you've got to have a bunch more power to overcome the drag. Mine is a 351 Turd I mean Ford and I've never seen the tach able to get over 4500rpms underway. For me, that's fine tho as I love the interior room and the ease of access to the engine and transmission when doing servicing.

  9. :lmao: I'm waiting till after Easter to even think about dragging the ol Ski Centurion out of it's hole and taking the cover off to see what kind of disaster is waiting for me under there...

@nzulmer Nice Sunesta! I've got my future eyes on one of those or a pontoon with a proper size outboard. One day...

Most current pic I have after I yanked the stupid bow rail off last summer. @Looney Duner has already offered to come buff her out and put the shine back on 😎

  10. Unless you head into a bunch of wind, you should def see a noticeable drop in fuel consumption. With our Winnie, if I set the cruise at 57-58mph, it puts the Cummins ISL right at 1500rpms where it seems pretty happy. Once I run it above that, it really seems to kick up it's drinking problem. She weighs right about 30k lbs on her own with water.

In this configuration it's 36,500lbs and averages about 7mpg

  11. Anyone have any recommendations for travel trailer rental in so cal/san diego? Or have something you'd like to rent out? My wife and I may potentially do a summer trip up to Oregon to take my mom to visit family and having learned our lesson with our big diesel pusher on the 101 last year, I'm looking at pulling a ~30' trailer with my Duramax instead. Plus our moho is not setup for extra passengers to ride along with as it has had furniture/layout changes that make it unsafe and uncomfortable to do so. *My truck is setup for bumper pull, gooseneck and 5th wheel options and I have many years of experience towing all different types and sizes of trailers*

Edit to add; we do not need a bunkhouse as long as the couch can be turned into a bed.

    Thanks

  12. Always wondered what it would be like to drive a big ass American HD pickup truck on the small European roads (assuming that's somewhere in EU, I can't make out the country on the plates)
