  1. Grey's Well Rd from the ranger station to the border camping area is all brand new asphalt as of a few years ago, but the scoundrels didn't bother repaving Gordon's Well Rd on the other side of the 8. Turns out, the Border Patrol only uses Grey's Well Rd so that's what got repaved.

  2. Get the sink broken free of the countertop, you likely won't be able to remove it from the sink base, clean all of the old adhesive off, then use a putty knife and acetone or similar to remove all of the residue. Be careful with acetone it may damage the laminate. I like to use PL Ultimate Hybrid Sealant for sink applications but it's hard to find, any name brand polyurethane sealant will do though. You MUST also use undermount sink hardware, the sealant alone WILL NOT support it. After you reinstall the sink with a bead of sealant, cut some wood and prop it up from underneath and then mechanically attach it with the undermount sink hardware. finish the edge with the sealant with a wet finger. I'd let it sit for a few days to cure. Now's a good time to replace the drain if it's old, it will probably start to leak since you've disturbed it, at least remove it and reinstall with some new putty under the flange.

Good luck with it, it's not too difficult to do.

  3. Anyone lucky enough to see Roger Waters on the North American leg of his "This Is not A Drill" tour? My wife and I saw him this last Monday in Glendale, Arizona. It was an incredible show considering he is 78. His voice hasn't changed much since we saw him 20 years ago at Irvine Meadows. I have to admit I had a bit of a tear forming nearing the end of  it was so amazing. His band is the best, they can play the songs live with the same nuances and sounds that are present on the studio recordings we've all heard for decades now. He did partake in a bit of his politics, speaking about current events and lots of visual images but hey it's Roger Waters he can do what he wants to.

Damn my ears were still ringing the next day. The sound system he had assembled in the arena was incredible and he sounded soooo good. Lots of YouTube videos of this tour.

  4. Not too much to worry about rolling the 40' DP down the highway, it's mindblowingly easy to drive. The drive to the dunes is always at night, when my wife wants to snooze on the couch I put in my ear buds and crank them up.  For the drive home she usually drives, I hate to say it but she crosses the rumble strips less often than I do lol.

  5. I thinks it's rather fawked up to hand out free money to help pay a student's debt, I didn't go to school but I would like my fair share of the handout, we put my spouse through nursing school on our own dime years ago, where's our money for that? It is a totally screwed up mess that isn't fair to anyone. Biden is just trying to score some votes for the Dems from the millenials.

I've been thinking it's about time to retire to Belize.

  6. No, EGR valve will not cause DPF to plug up, at least not directly.  It's at 150% of it's capacity to store soot, not 150% plugged up to flow exhaust gas. It's at 150% because it hasn't gone through a regen for whatever reason, usually due from being inhibited by the ECM. There's a lot of things that will inhibit a regen, leaks detected on either side of the turbo, fuel delivery issues, improper or inadequate EGT values etc. I can't speculate what the problem could be without scan tool data from the ECM.

Fwiw, at 60k on the odometer a DPF can typically be regened manually several times and brought back into service even if it is severely sooted up. Done it a hundred times, but I'm not the one working on it and I don't know all of the technical details surrounding the issue.

Diesel engines and their emission systems are generally regarded as voodoo, there aren't that many who truly know how to fix them. Hang in there they will get it sorted out.

That's right. I replaced my own A/C Evaporator in my Civic which was a 2 day job, stealer wanted close to $3k! Same thing, tore it apart, replaced and tried to fill with the quick charge cans at O'Reilly and nope. Different connectors. What? Oh, different freon ok, well had to buy 2 cans of it on the shelf to my surprise, and have my buddy's shop charge it. They had the manual valve charging things and later found out, I could buy it, too. All in all I spent about $100 on the Evap and about $200 on the freon.

I figured, if the barefoot dude in the middle east can bust it out, so can I. Honda really screwed us on the EVAP replacement.

Haha that looks like every other bay in our shop. Good job getting your evap in and out, some vehicles in particular are not so easy.

  8. Welcome to 2022 John. Yes I use it on a daily basis.  R-1234YF has been around for a decade or more already. I haven't serviced a car with R-134 for a long while now. The days of squirting a little refrigerant in once in a while are over. The R-1234YF machines take a ridiculous amount of time to identify the refrigerant composition, recover it providing it is 100% pure, draw a 30 minute vacuum and then partial charge the system so the user can leak check the evaporator with a halogen detector first, then suck it all back out so the machine can charge it completely. It's like an hours worth of work just to perform an evac and recharge. And, you have to plug the machine into the DLC so it can record the VIN.

Are there adapters so you can put R-1234YF fittings on your R-134 machine's hoses? Sure. But what happens when a legitimate shop tries to service a car that has cross contaminated refrigerant? They have to recover it with a dedicated recovery pump and put it into a special pressure vessel and treat it as hazardous waste, it is spendy to dispose of it. The customer pays for it in the end, I've encountered a few vehicles with contaminated refrigerant, and it wasn't cheap to make it right again, all of the rubber hoses had to be replaced as well as flushing the evap and condenser with denatured alcohol. We had to do this to get our machine to charge it, there was enough R-134 molecules still in the system to make the identifier angry when we tried to charge it.

The moral of the story is buy a R-1234YF machine and don't ever mix the two refrigerants. Fwiw the Robinair machine is the best one out there, they're about $8500 if you can find one, otherwise there is a 6+ month wait to get one.

And just for fun, one shouldn't use a quicky charge for their EV or hybrid car that uses an electric compressor, it is possible that the PAG oil mixed in with the refrigerant in the little can will cause the powertrain module to sense high voltage leakage into the chassis and shut it down, it's called a "loss of isolation" DTC and must be cleared with a scan tool that has the ability to do so (after flushing out the contaminated ac system of course).  High voltage cars are required to use a special non conductive refrigerant oil so this doesn't occur. Beware.

  9. We live in Goodyear, the city is nice overall, newer neighborhoods and the city council does a lot for the community. Mostly HOA but where we live, but a few miles south of I-10 down Estrella Parkway there isn't.  We're a culdesac home now but we want more property so we've bought a parcel in Wittmann and will be building pretty soon. Lots of nice areas in the valley, almost too hard to pick one to live. Some are $$ while others are even more $$$.

  10. Why are you going to use an LS 4.8? IMO LS engines are way overused and are kind of a been there done that engine. Sure they make easy power but everyone and their brother has one in their hotrod these days. Booooring!

Since you seem to have the wherewithal to put such an abomination together, why not use something bitchin like a Dart 632 (or bigger) with a roots blower and pair of dominators? Then tub it and install some Hoosiers on a Curry diff.

I have to admit I'm not a fan of taking something old school and installing a modern powertrain under it, I think it ruins the nostalgia of it all. Again with the LS engine, been there and done that.

  11. Just let the nitrogen out of them so you can compress and measure them, push on the schrader valve until no more gas comes out. The installer will have to discharge them to install them anyways. It's no big deal.

If you don't already have a nitrogen tank and regulator to fill shocks, I'd highly recommend getting one. I've got less than $150 in my nitrogen setup and I use it for many things, not just filling and topping off my car's 8 shocks.

  12. Some tires are made with rubber that cracks early on, it is what it is.  I personally don't use anything on my tires, I just wash them with soapy water when I wash the car then dry them and leave them be. I don't care for the blingy wet look, besides that I work on cars for a living and those tires that I have to take off that have shiny stuff on them just makes my job extra greasy and dirty, it kind of pisses me off really. But ok, I like the products from Chemical Guys too, it is not greasy and not sticky. Don't know of it will make a difference in the life of the tire or not though, you should be replacing them at about the 5 year age anyways.

  13. Were they really trying to pull out that F250 buried in the mud up to the door jambs using the ball on the end of that giant drop hitch? A Kenworth wrecker would have had a hard time with that.  I wonder if a blanket or something heavy thrown over the middle of the tow strap to help deflect the energy if it let go would have helped??

Yes a sad story indeed. My heart goes out to his family.

  14. George Carlin does it for me, Classic 80s Bill Cosby too. Chris Rock is always entertaining. And although I did like Sam Kinison's excitement on stage, I never cared for Robin Williams.

In Bill Cosbys case, a standup routine doesn't have to be vulgar to be funny.

  15. I've got too many end of career goals right now to even consider one, we've got a 2017 torch red C7 in the garage that we never drive as it is lol. Even though we could sell it for more than we paid for it in this stupid crazy market we will keep it for that odd Sunday drive once in a while. Building the new house on the property we just bought takes the center stage, as well as owing zero money on everything we own. One of these days we may revisit another new vette but not today. They are bitchin for sure.

  16. In the town in Wittmann, Az. where we will be building a home soon, there are no well restrictions. The well drillers say a well of 600' in depth is more than adequate.

Most of our surface water here in Maricopa County, from Lake Pleasant, is used for crop irrigation. Almost all of the treated wastewater from Phoenix is pumped to the Palo Verde generating station in Tonapah and used to cool the reactors.

Homes are going up everywhere there is a few open acres here, I still don't quite understand where the demand has come from though.

Water availability is on my mind but on the flipside of it all, the county wouldn't be issuing building and well permits if there was an imminent danger of running out of ground water. You have to trust the local governments decisions regarding these things, most municipalities and such do the right thing for everyone around here. Not all government entities are crooked.
