Talked to Scott at Art Morrison this morning and he said they have done four or five of these chassis. Very competitive on pricing so I would go that route. 22 in wide between the rails and 47 in hub to hub. Maybe work the 9 inch in the back for around a 275 tire. 6 to 8 months to get a chassis. Four link setup with wilwood brakes. I think an LS and a 4l60 would be the ticket. Especially for my wife. This would be her car.

Same car last post. https://www.motortrend.com/articles/hrdp-1012-1954-nash-metropolitan/photos/ Car I build will be a fixed roof and not a convertible.

Oh ya. I'm diggin this. https://www.pro-touring.com/threads/103318-1959-nash-metropolitan He put it on an Art Morrison chassis which I know is a great product. That is what I have under the 62 Corvette. Price would be higher to go that route. I am going to finish that car when my truck is drivable.

I wasn't familiar with the remote water pump setups for an LS and found this guy on youtube. He is pretty funny.

The nice thing about a LS is you can get pretty short, to make 400-500 hp is easy, or 600 stroked, if you stay around the 500hp, i would do a ls3 stock, with, if you need it really short like we do in the 914, you can run a remote water pump, and the front wheel drive balancer, i can get you a length on the motor remote mount, then the factory intake sits super low, then if the motor stays stock, the Holley has a tune that is ready to go, make is very simple, and then you have something reliable and easy to drive, with the factory EFI it can sit and the maintenance is very low,
remote block link
LS3 would be a no-brainer awesome. Easy peasy. When I talked to the frame guy he was very hesitant but really the motor isn't much longer than the V6. Nice to know about these other things to make it shorter.

Killed it today. I was in the shop working by 5:40 this morning. Funny how some days you're beat up and tired and you end up getting a lot done. On that little triangular piece because it's a sideways weld the machine is turned way down so it doesn't burn through. Number one setting on the machine. That tends to glob the welds up on top of the metal versus burning in. Just a little more grinding.

GM V6 3.6 weighs 370 lb and the k24 weighs 283 lb. 87 lb difference between the two.

Says 500 horsepower on e70. I would not want to fool with any ethanol-based fuels and just run 91 pump. What is on that k24 engine as far as variable valve timing and variable oil pumps? So basically how hard is it to tune if you throw a turbo on it. I assume there's probably all kinds of k24 stuff out there.

I will say I would not want a naturally aspirated V6 just because I don't like how they sound no matter what you do with the exhaust.

LF4. It's the factory high perf TT version of the same V6. 464/445 HP/TQ bone-stock in an ATS-V on 91 octane w/ cats etc. In a hot rod build, no reason you couldn't have 500+ without even pushing it.

That sounds pretty cool. I wonder how often one of these motors comes up out of a wrecked car. The other thing that scares me about all these new motors is if we run a Holley standalone system dealing with variable valve timing and variable oil pumps for emissions. That stuff all is a pain in the ass.

One of the guys here at the shop was telling me about the k24 swaps are popular. He even mentioned a drivetrain that is four wheel drive. Although my guess would be something like that would never fit in this small car.

I sat in real nice v8 car the other night and my head was 1" from the roof. Of all things he had bought and used Acura NSX seats in it. I am thinking it might be hard to run exhaust and turbo tubing through that frame to the back. Maybe have a 4cyl with the a shorty muffler and dump out next to the trans. Intercooler still might be tricky. Or just do a V6 like they have shown. Maybe built it naturally aspirated with some upgrades. Depends on the engine I guess. I am pretty sure he said they moved the firewall back 18".

Figured the sandrail world could apply here. Some here have been following my Dodge A100 hot rod build. Been dreaming about my next car and want to build a 52-62 Metropolitan Nash for my wife. Autoweld Chassis in Pennsylvania built this chassis for a company that builds Metropolitans. Super cool and they only built one. Tons of design and I like everything they did. He said they spent a lot of time designing everything. He could not remember the engine but I think it could be the GM 3.6 V6. He remembered it was from a Cadillac and 305 HP. Maybe someone here can tell what that engine is by the pics? I like everything about that chassis and setup. He still has all the drawings and a Complete roller from them is $16k. My thought was to put a small turbo on it with mild boost and bump it from 300 to 400 HP. These cars stock are 1800-1900 lbs. I would think a light v6 or 4 cylinder and that chassis you would end up around 2600-2700 lbs. (I heard a V8 car was 2800 lbs) Might be cool to mount the turbo and intercooler in the back of the car and run piping. Although the fuel tank would have to go back there and not sure about a turbo close to the fuel tank. What about an Ecotec with some boost? Other engine options? I don't think a Subie would fit? These cars are very narrow. The setup they did looks to have a 6l80e trans which is crazy. He said there was going to be room for a foot box. I would think with something like that you could put 411 gears in it for the 9". Maybe run a 4l60 instead? Not sure what adapters are out there for different engines. I am thinking 400 hp on Pump premium gas. I did mention an LS to him but he thought that engine was to big. Although I have seen these cars with V8s.

Boxing some of this stuff in underneath is all hidden so it doesn't have to be pretty. I'm not going to box all of it. Maybe just put some gusset pieces in once I tie it all together. That back corner little section is going to be tricky because I can't get all the way up in the corner to weld it top or bottom. Might have to just get it close and then you seam sealer. This whole front area is going to be super stout. Inching my way closer to welding these panels in solid. I called that chassis place this morning for the Nash Metro frame. They built one of those and he still has all the drawings and can build another one. Full rolling chassis including axles hubs front rack and everything is 16k which is a lot cheaper than I thought. That is a 305 horse GM motor out of a Cadillac and a 6l80 auto trans. Sounds perfect for my wife. With that much trans I would probably put 411 gears in it so it had tons of low end grunt. Getting pretty excited about maybe building one of those cars down the road.

Big fan of the channel and this is such a cool vid of the two of them. They also now have Vice grip lodge with some videos of their property.

Still thinking about my next build after this truck. Wife really likes the Metropolitan Nash. Sat in a custom one last night and my head was 1" from the roof. Just sent these guys an email on this frame setup. This would be the way to build one. LS with a 4l60 trans. Even a little 4.8 with a mild cam. My guess would be pushing 100k in parts not including labor. https://www.autoweldchassis.com/installations-and-instructions/nash-metropolitan-build/

Bloody Saturday today. I got bloodied up twice on this damn thing. That's what I get for leaving a bunch of sharp edges and crawling around it like a jungle gym. But I win. Since I had nothing to attach to I had to run over top of the adjustment lever. No other way to do it. There is only about 10 in between those seats so the console will be narrow. I will probably have to raise it up in the air and leave a gap underneath for those seat belts. I do want my big hydro flask to fit because I carry that thing everywhere. even though the seat frame is 1/8-in wall 1x2 I will still make a plate probably at least 3/16 to go under those two Center half inch bolts. Then the bolt can't crush the box when tightening. Put some hours on this thing this week. Been getting up at 4:30 and 5:00 a.m. and coming in at the crack of dawn. Pretty motivated right now. I do have a wedding week after this week in Cali for 4 days. Probably need the break. Time for a car show this evening with some tacos and cold Sols.

Engine choice for a future Hot Rod build

Why do you think they look cheap? Such a good engine to make reliable horsepower on pump gas. I personally like to move the coils which I will do on my truck and clean up the top end of the motor.
