Not sure what possessed me to spend $50 on seat belt hardware knowing in the back of my head they weren't going to work. So my OCD kicked in today and I Bent up and welded up my own. Next step will be welding tabs on to the seat frame. I also need to weld in a triangular gusset at the end of that seat frame tying it to the sheet metal of the cab. The entire wheel well will be welded and give it strength as well. The seatbelt tabs I bought had 7/16 to bolt it to the floor and I'm going to do half inch grade 8.

I did two separate cuts. The first cut was only 2 in which left the window channel in place. That allowed me to make my bracket and weld it in and then make a second cut to the final edge. It's cool that my door latch rod and lever do not have to be disturbed. I may have to cut a little bit more off the bottom of the window guide. Have to decide if I'm going to mig or tig all of this.

Little baby gurney bubble made from a cat water dish. Meow. Lol. Perfect size. I'm not sure how I'm going to dynamat and carpet over it but tire has clearance at full lock now. Braised it on at only 28 amps. Amazing how the steel, stainless, and bronze all flow together so nicely. And amazing how strong the joint is.

Was watching English wheel videos on youtube this morning to make those two Gurney bubbles for the front of the fenders. And then started looking at different stainless steel bowls. This should be the perfect size.  Cut a hole and weld in. lol.

That was a lot of work to get both of those trimmed and fit in there. Just the beginning of many days of work in this cab. I need to order some good seat belt brackets from jegs and then I will need to weld in some brackets to my seat frame to bolt those to.

Here is a better view of it. If I try to bring that flat angle front section forward away from the tire I would have to cut more off the door. Now that I can see what I have to work with it looks like I will be able to lower the window far enough to only have 2 and 5/8 sticking up. Not bad.

Made my template out of three pieces to get the proper dimensions. No other way to do it. Used a piece of 2 inch exhaust pipe and good old human bending power to bend those upper two curves. Two-person job. That front angle that goes down to the floor is too close to the tire when it is turned all the way but that's the only way I can see to blend it in. So each side is going to get a little baby gurney bubble.

Three of these will be visible and four will be covered up under the seat. Although the other three may end up getting covered at some point. 

Been spending a lot of time staring at this today before I proceed. My guess is the window will stop about three and three quarter inches from going all the way down. I will have to cut the window channel at the bottom and make a new bracket to secure it. It looks like I may end up right at the very bottom edge of that lever and it might either clear or I only have to shorten it just to pinch.

That photo was Lions Dragstrip in Cali.

These are real magnesium Wheels. He had bought them to put on his sand drag bike which I took a picture of on his wall.

So back in 1968 My dad built this Corvette gasser.  It was very fast for the late 60s and held some AHRA records. In 1971 the car crashed and was destroyed. Here is a write up on the HAMB from 2013.   (More photos at the bottom of that articl) The car was loaded up in a truck and brought back to the shop. Everyting thrown away or sold. Not a single part was saved. I have always wanted something from that car. So today an 80 year old gentleman calls our shop and says I bought the front wheels from your dad. Guessing 1971.  I was like sure and called Ken who was driving. Never thought the wheels would have survived. He said the front end was ripped away including the fiberglass.  So I call him and he remembered all kinds of stuff including my dad doing burnouts on Mariposa when he built the Guggies gasser. So now I am real excited. Drive out this afternoon to his home and bought this wheels. Very personal for me to have these back in our family. 

Challenging is going to be an understatement for this interior. It looks like I'm going to have to shorten the arm for the lock mechanism. Then it won't have enough throw to unlock it. Might have to custom build some sort of lever assembly down inside the door. Or on the back side of the lever extend that arm so it travels further to pull the shorter arm on the other end further. Might be doable

You never know. I just like the field fresh look. I know it's not protecting the patina but the two years I've had this truck it still looks the same.

Video number two. Five months since my last video. Does not feel like that long but I have gotten a crap load done.  Pushing pretty hard on this thing right now. Forget 1 hour early how about 2 to 3 hours earlier each morning.

Started at 6:00 a.m. to beat the heat. Hard as I could go for almost 8 hours. Three coats of paint and two coats of clear on everything. I have about one and a quarter cans of paint left so maybe just enough to paint the inside roll cage pieces. That clear is a matte finish and it will dry some more overnight.
