  1. Where I work we have an annual review. We write a few paragraphs about our accomplishments over the year, what our strengths are, and what we need to get better at. We then score ourselves from 1-5 in several categories. You then chose 5 people you work with from various teams and they review you in those same categories and can write comments about your performance. This all goes to your manager who then writes a review and takes these weighted scores into account to give you averaged scores.  How well you do in all of this dictates your pay increase and can lead to a pay cut if you’re slacking. Last step in the process is a 1 on 1 meeting with your manager going over all of this and addressing any discrepancies in how you think you did vs how others and your lead think you did.  Seems to work really well and doing so on an annual basis feels like the correct cadence to asses performance and compensation.

  2. Stay away from Fitech, it’s worked for a lot of people, but I had a ton of issues with it before getting it dialed in. I put it on a 70 bronco with a 351w, super mild engine nothing crazy. I had the Fitech fuel pump seize on the freeway(Fitech guy told me “oh yeah that happens sometimes” and gave me a new one, had a Fitech fuel line burst in a parking lot, dumping gas everywhere right near the headers(Fitech told me they had a bad batch of fuel lines and this was common), and had two injectors go bad, filling my engine with fuel while it was parked, literally dripping from the exhaust collectors and had to get towed home. After those issues it’s been reliable and starts first try every time but I wish I went with Holley to begin with. I also find the idle hangs up a bit randomly. As far as setup goes it really is plug and play and is a definite upgrade over the carburetor.

  3. The starlink high performance pulls 1.5-2x the power as the normal residential/rv dish (same dish), this is the rectangle dish whereas the high performance one is a larger square. You should expect a draw of about 75 watts total from the normal residential/rv dish I believe but I can double check this tomorrow. The rectangle dish has plenty of throughput for what we’re doing in Glamis whereas the high performance dish is targeted at businesses, mobile applications, or use cases that will have a ton of people on the unit. Also if you have one person in your group with a dish, you can get mesh routers from starlink to extend the wifi further. 

  4. Starlink has dongles you can purchase to run Ethernet to wherever you want. You can also purchase multiple routers and mesh them together (only if you have the rectangle or business dish). The routers are waterproof and have a better range when outside than inside but I’m not sure how far you’re trying to go. Hardwire is probably best for this application. (Ps I work at starlink) 

  5. Go with a bmw m57, it’s a 3.0 liter twin turbo diesel that came in 2009-2011 bmws. One of the most bulletproof motors they ever built once you pull the emissions stuff off of it. There’s a lot of aftermarket support and can be made to run standalone. On stock turbos with a tune it puts it at about 380 horsepower and 600 lbft of torque all while maintaining 30+ mpg. I’m planning on putting one in my bronco. If you want something with less electronics look into a Mercedes’ om606, they came out of 1998-99 Mercedes e300 turbodiesels and also have a lot of aftermarket support. While cummins stuff is cool, both of these engines are significantly lighter, smoother (inline 6 vs inline 4) and have a better power-band than you could get with a 4bt. 
     

  6. From what I’ve gathered about b20 and straight biodiesel is that it is slightly less energy dense by a few percent, is more lubricating and is a stronger solvent than regular diesel. More lubrication is always a plus but the issues people seem to run into with it is in the first few tanks when it knocks all the crud off the inside of your tank and fuel lines. It’s probably best to change fuel filters a few tanks after making the change bio. The extra lubrication alone would make me opt for b20 over standard diesel.

  7. Went up to the Bay Area to visit a few friends, spent most of the time in Berkeley and San Francisco. Being from Huntington Beach where we barely even think about covid anymore it was super weird seeing everyone all masked up and paranoid still. I’m still unvaccinated so that made a few things a bit difficult. The bouncers at bars in Sf ask for your ID and vaccine card, when it was my turn I had a couple come up and distract the bouncer while he was handing back my ID and just slipped on in. I’m definitely not a fan of the policies and filth in the area but it was overall a good time.
