  2. I retired 2 years ago in 2021. I started working when I was 12 and then stopped at 62! 50 years was enough for me! I had 2 businesses, a large construction company and a small industrial supply shop with 2 locations. I ran the supply shop for the last 10 years of me working. I thought I would be working until the end, but the opportunity presented itself to be bought out by my partners and leave! So I took it and never looked back!

In 2021 we also bought a new motor home and after I retired, we have been doing a lot of travailing! I have grandsons in Tennessee, so we are there a lot. I keep pretty busy with projects when we are not on the road, and I help my mom and dad. He's 90 and still going strong and always has stuff going on around his place that he needs help with. We also ride our Harley's every chance we get or go out with our Jeep friends and go to the desert any time we want! The feeling of freedom is like nothing I have ever felt before! My time is my own for the first time in my life and I don't have justify anything to anyone anymore!!

But now, I live on a fixed income, it's a pretty good fixed income, but still a fixed income! One thing for sure, California is not a good place to be if you are retired! Way too expensive to live here! We had to make a few changes, but luckily, not too many! I have some investments that will kick in down the road so money is not a huge issue...for now. We are looking to sell the big house we have here and downsize in another state, likely Tennessee to be closer to my kids and it's a better place for retirees.

We hit the road for 6 to 10 weeks at a time and every time we come home I'm pretty much ready to leave again! Were thinking of hitting all the bike rallies around the country in the next few years!:70:

Retiring was the best decision I could have made and I have never been happier! I plan on using the time I have left to the fullest.

One of my favorite bands. Hard to argue that Neal Peart was not one of the best. Was very close to the front for their last concert in Phoenix. One of the tightest bands ever. I would say in the past 30 years there would be very few weeks that I did not hear a Rush song one way or another.

I'm a metal guy through and through! But my favorite band of all time is RUSH! I saw them over 10 times including the last tour in 2015!

  4. I have been riding since I was 10 and I'm 64 now. I've ridden everything from dirt bikes to full blown custom Bikes! As has been talked about, take the riding class and learn the basics! Ride as if everyone and everything is out to kill you because they are! I did ride dirty for many years ( no license), but my wife decided to start riding in 2000, so we both took the course and it was well worth it! Go in like you have never been on a bike in your life and you won't regret it! Buy a starter bike to get used to riding a big heavy bike, like a Sportster or Softail, and don't be a dumb dumb like me and ride without a helmet!!

Now let's move on the big wheel baggers. You may not like the experience because, depending on the size of the wheel and the stretch of the bags, it's going to be hard to turn, hard to handle and not very comfortable. Back in 2006 I put a 21" wheel on my 06 Ultra classic and people thought I was nuts! It worked out fine and little did I know I was ahead of the curve . Now, a 21" is considered small and the norm seems to be 26" and up.

After riding customs for many years, my wife and I decided we wanted bikes we could ride for long distance's. In 2017 we bought 2 StreetGlides, hers is a special and mine is a CVO. We've done a lot of work to hers, mostly cosmetic but nothing to change the rideability. We don't even ride the customs anymore!

Once you feel confident and you want to move up to a bigger bike, decide what kind of riding you want to do. If you want to bar hop with your friends and do the whole "look at me" thing, then go for the big wheel bagger. If you want to ride...and I mean really ride... then go with a nice bagger you can make your own...paint job, different wheels...not too big, stereo...things like that won't change the rideability and you'll be very happy.

I guess at my age now I just want to ride and be comfortable, have my music and enjoy the ride. We're leaving for Sturgis next month and the customs are staying home!

  8. Some of you might remember that in the 10 years I ran Top-Line Industrial Supply, we did an annual car and bike show benefitting Carol's Kitchen. Our local food bank that feeds the hungry in our area. It became the second largest one day event in our area! But, unfortunately when I retired, the show retired with me. We also have a pretty big event here in Beaumont called the Cherry Festival and they have been doing it for over 100 years! They also did a car and bike show the week before the festival and the guy that ran that retired the same time I did. The shows were 3 weeks apart, so to lose both shows at the same time was a pretty hard blow to the charity and the community.

I was asked a few weeks ago if I would be willing to help promote/produce the Cherry Festival car and bike show and bring it back to life! I said I would, as long as Carol's Kitchen would benefit and they agreed!

So get your classic, custom, hot rod, off road or bike to the show and have a great time! The event is open to all vehicles and any year!

A new show to benefit Carol's Kitchen and new opportunity to give something back to the community!

So here we go again and in the words of Michael Corleone in the movie Godfather III,
"Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!!"

  11. There are no words for how much I love this dog!! Here name is Taarna and she's named after a character in the 1980's movie Heavy Metal..."Taarna the Defender"...(see the picture). I got her after my home shop got broke into in 2020 and no more little dogs! She's an Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog...don't worry if you've never herd of it...not too many people have...LOL! They are mainly found in the UK. We have a friend that has one and he's a great dog! She's a great watchdog and companion...she goes everywhere with me and when I was still working , she went to work with me everyday! She loves most people especially kids...my grandsons just love her and at almost 90 pounds she still thinks she's a lap dog ...LOL!

  12. 2009 Ford F450 4X4 6.4 Diesel service Truck Lariat $55,000 OBO
Truck has 180,682 total miles. Top end of the engine was rebuilt at 112,000 miles by the factory. Engine and trans have been regularly serviced.
The truck was a personal work truck for me as the owner of a construction company and I have since retired and the truck is no longer needed.
    Truck Upgrades:
Lariat edition which means power everything including leather seats. The seats and carpet have always been covered and show little wear.
The truck is a 4X4 with good tires and Alcoa rims.
Truck was a special order in 09 and has every option that was available and was at a cost of $70,000 for just the cab and chassis. It has a new $5000 Kenwood stereo system with 2 amps and 2 10” sub-woofers behind the rear seat and all speakers have been upgraded and it is Sirius/XM ready, it also has navigation. It has a Viper alarm and one button auto start.
The front 20 gal fuel tank was replaced with a 50 gal tank and it has a rear 40 gal aux tank so it has a 90 gal fuel capacity.

    Bed Upgrades:
Bed is custom built by Selzi truck bodies at a cost of $15,000. Includes sliding drawers and rear work deck and an $800 Wilton 8” vice. Bed also includes a 10 HP gas low profile Koler air compressor…(has not been started in a while and will need a service)…and a reelcraft 50ft air hose reel in the rear box. All the boxes can be locked by one button or manually locked. The bed is rhino lined with welded in tie downs. The boxes are also extra deep.
To buy and spec out this truck now with all the upgrades, would be $110,000 now.
The truck needs almost nothing and is ready to go to work. The tags are good to next Nov.

If interested you can message me here and I can answer any questions

Congratulations! I am trying to retire in the next year. How do you flip the switch from saving money to spending the money that you saved. Mentally that is going to be a tough one for me.

I have been working for this day many years! I watched family members and friends die with nothing to show for it. We made some good investments and because of that and some things that will come in later, we are going to fine. Were not rich, but at the same time we're going to be able to pretty much do what we want, when we want and for as long as we want...as long as we watch what were spending.
