El Centro, Calif — Caltrans maintenance crews will close State Route 78 (SR-78), near the community of Glamis, from Gecko Road to Ted Kipt Road Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. for pavement work. Work is expected to continue through mid-November.

Eastbound and westbound SR-78 traffic will be switched to a single open lane with highway worker flaggers using one-way traffic control. A pilot vehicle will escort motorists one direction at a time on the open lane. At no time will both lanes of the highway close.

Traffic delays of up to 10 minutes are expected depending on traffic queues, and motorists are advised to allow additional travel time to reach their destinations. Travelers in the area are reminded to watch for highway workers and construction equipment and to Be Work Zone Alert.

The construction schedule is subject to change due to weather conditions, traffic incidents, or other construction-related reasons.

  2. No issues here. 36 ft pusher either towing a 4 door jeep or 12ft flatbed with a RZR. Camera lets me know everything is still back there. Heavy enough to not be bothered by other vehicle's. Push a button on a down hill and the speed stays the same. Only issue is sometimes the wind is just at the right angle coming home along the Salton Sea to move me around.

  3.  Ventura City Firefighter-Paramedic Matthew Clapsaddle is coming home.

Last week he and his wife Jennifer were celebrating their 25th Wedding Anniversary in Hawaii when he suffered "a sudden, critical medical emergency" and passed away.

Friday, there will be a procession for Clapsaddle as he returns to Ventura County.

The Ventura City Fire Department released the following information about the Friday morning procession...

"Please note that the exact route and estimated time of arrival at each location may vary and are subject to change:

    - 8:00 am: Depart LAX

    - 8:20 am: Pass through Santa Monica

    - 8:55 am: Drive through Malibu on the PCH

    - 9:40am: Take Harbor Boulevard through Oxnard and into Ventura

    - 9:55 am: Pass the Ventura Pier

    - 10:05 am: Pass Station 2, located at 41 S. Seaward Avenue

    - 10:15 am: Pass Station 5, Matt’s second home, located at 4225 E. Main Street

    - 10:30 am: Arrive in Camarillo

Matt is a 28-year-veteran of the Ventura City Fire Department, and is already deeply missed."

The department also released the following statement...

“It is truly heartbreaking when we lose a teammate and friend. Matt was a positive and dedicated leader who brought so much joy and energy to our fire family,” shared Fire Chief David Endaya. “These are difficult days with more to come. We hold Matt’s family in our hearts and will continue to lift them up as they navigate this unexpected path.”

Firefighter Clapsaddle was an active-duty member of the department since 1994. In addition to his role as a firefighter and paramedic, he had been integrally involved in the department’s Ocean Rescue Team, Urban Search and Rescue Team, and ladder truck company at Fire Station 5.

Clapsaddle is survived by his wife, Jennifer and son, Tanner."

All flags are being flown at half-staff until further notice and badge shrouds are being worn by local firefighters in honor of Clapsaddle.

  4. We just went this June for the first time. It was very warn and not enjoyable riding during the day. You would have to ride early in the day. Overall it is a nice place. Camping with hook ups, a lake, and an off road area. There is not enough sand to take a buggy. You would not want to run paddles at all. I would recommend going no later than May. I would also suggest to either go to Coral Pink Sand Dunes about 1.5 hours away. Its fun but on the small side, also a little cooler. Plus there is also Little Sahara and that's about 4 hours north.

  5. We had that issue with a very low mileage Honda. We had under 50K on a car that the norm would be around 120 or higher. They were showing us adds for cars with 200K and that's all they wanted to give us. We did get them up a bit but that car with the low miles was not out there.

  6. 1. Call plumber and see what your really looking at.

    2. Call insurance agent. What ever broke is not covered, everything damaged from what broke and what ever it takes to fix should be covered.

    3. If you love your house and plan to stay a long time, repipe. lol

  7. Went to Haifa when I was in the service and yes it was very friendly to Americans. We had to take someone to the Tel Aviv airport and security is no joke. Looks like a great trip.

  8. I believe there are only to reasons to run lower tire pressure.

    More Traction

Pros - More bite, Cons - more potential damage

    Better Ride

Pros - A little better ride in small chop, Cons - Your not letting your suspension do its job, also still more potential damage

  9. We will probably retire somewhere in that area, Prices are crazy right now. We go there often and the prices have jumped really bad just in the last year. If they dont come back down a bit we may go a little more north towards Cedar City. Check this site.

June there is hot usually. Oasis is the best campground in the middle of the dunes and has trees. They have a sewage dump and you can fill water there at the dunes.

You will have to drive to Nephi or Delta to gas, about 35 miles either way.

It is first come first serve but if you are coming after memorial weekend you will have your pick.

Sand Mountain is open camping in the dust and sand as well. But no shade. There are toilets at both locations.

Not alot in the surrounding area. Cherry creek has some dirt riding and really good single track for dirt bikes. There are miles of dirt trails that surround the dunes and you can drive over to Vernon reservoir if you are so inclined... but its a jaunt.

Thanks for the info. We will plan on the Oasis Campground.

As far as the Duning goes, The Backside of Sand Mountain has the best dunes if your looking to do an actual dune run. The dunes north of that are more trails than anything. If your use to glamis, that section would be comparable to the smaller dunes between Olds and the Beach store.

Definitly will be warm but doable. Let me know if you want some people to dune with. We can do a day trip and dune with you guys. I live super close to Little sahara.

Thanks for the info, Would love some people to dune with, We will be there mid week if you can get a day off. Should arrive Monday June 13th

I was told I'd be disappointed if I went to Little Sahara. When are y'all thinking of being there? Peace

    June 13th for the week.

I know a number of members are clients - I would be if I were in CA (I do have AAA here in Utah)

Use him as well. Here is his contact info. I think AAA is a bit on the higher side but they have better service.

  12. Planning on a trip to Utah in June. We are going to hit Sand Hollow for a few days first and then maybe try out Little Sahara. Will be taking our RZR. Looks like they have a few camping areas. Is it just first come first serve? We will be there mid week so I don't think it will be too crowded. Anything else I really need to know before I go. How far away is gas? Anything else to do in the area?
