I miss my KTM 525.....that was the most fun in the dunes, but harder on the body.

I bought a KTM 525 about 4 years ago from original owner well taken care from a guy in Florida.i have been ripping it out there ever since and love that quad.im thinking about retirement for it and putting it up on a big shelf  in a building I have with some of the 3 wheelers already up there and just leave it for my kids to deal with when thay are older.but hell yeah thing is like a perfect dune machine.

He just has a leak in the oil pan… not looking for a full overhaul 😜

RITE!!!! thay want over 4gs to pull the motor and you know if thay pull it it will snowball with other issues.one guys told me 7,000 to overhaul the hole motor and he will get another 300k.the body will fall off the frame before the trucks sees another 300k..lol

you sure its t the dipstick, that is a huge known issue on these

its a east coast truck with miles.its a known issue out here with the salt from the roads and now past few years thay have really transitioned to this liquid called brine.its a salt solution with sodium chloride and water it has a much lower freezing point then rock salt.the county and towns drive around and spray it on all the roads hours before a storm like a water truck to control dust.shits nasty cuz as thay lay it down its wet and sprays up on the vehicle and it coats it in a film then when it drys its like a dry powder all over the car and under neath. reason thay are using it is its less damaging to the asphalt but its more damaging to metal and paint..chit sucks!

Is it rusted through? I haven't heard of that happening, although, I'm sure it's possible. The dipstick provision in the passenger side of the oil pan is a big problem with those. It has an o-ring on the inside that goes bad. The only solution is to remove the oil pan and that requires the engine to be removed. Lifting it up high enough to get the pan off just isn't possible. The other option that works pretty well but is still a bit of a job and requires some skill is to cut the bottom of the oil pan off to gain access to the inside and then weld it back in place.

    Peas

so on the east coast with salt and snow thay are known for rusting out.and its so common that's what most of the shops do is lift the motor up enough to remove the pan.i have not done it but its allover on the diesel forum's and that's what my to diesel shops do around here.thay even both said its 1,600  parts and labor and takes about 2 to 3 hours.

  7. my son has a 2002 f-250 with the 7.3 diesel motor and the oil pan is known for rusting out and leaking on them.and well he went out to work and sure enough he had a monster puddle of oil on the ground.and as easy as it sounds to just replace the pan the cross member is so close to the pan on the 7.3 diesel the motor has to be unbolted and lifted up about  6 to 8 " to drop the pan.he lives on base on Camp Pendleton and the truck has a 6'' lift and sits on 35'' tires.do him doing this in the parking lot is not really a option.if anybody can help us out and recommend somebody or a shop that is good and fair would be appreciated.

  8. I herd this weekend that rum or has it Polaris was approved of permits for improving the beach store bringing back water and surrounding are with more stores, camp ground and possibly a dealership.but what ever thay wind up doing I think its gonna ruin the old school vibe and commercializ the place and bring in constant newbies  that will  just trash it even more.

Have you tried an Ocotillo Facebook group?  I’m going to go look.  +1 for your son and friends for doing the right thing.

I did not.i don't have Facebook.i use my younger 15 year olds for market place from time to time.was not sure were else to post it really.and yes I agree on my son and his friend.i feel I taught him the best I could.and for a 21 year old so far he has made me proud.he moved out at 20 from nj to Sad Diego.packed my 20' enclosed trailer behind his f-250 with his cloths, bedroom furniture,2 dirt bikes and drove across with his dog by himself. had a job lined up running heavy  equipment for a guy on here and looking to get into local 12 union out there.

  10. so I know this should be posted in lost and found and its not glamis related but please read.if it don't belongs sorry just trying to find the kid.my son and his buddies went to ocotillo this weekend with dirt bikes and Sunday when leaving one kid had a issue with his truck so thay stoped and all got out outside near the main entrance.thay see a kid in a ford ranger with a dirt bike and gear loaded  in the bed pass them and pull out and drive off.his toolbox fell out and he kept going.thay ran into the road to get it and waving there hands but he kept going.inside is some basic tools but the value is the cordless Hitachi tools, drill, grinder, batterys and charger.if anybody knows the kid or hears something reach out.my son has everything in his trailer on camp Pendleton and looking to get it back to this guy somehow or he can get it to me and ill keep it in my trailer in glamis storage  and maybe meet up with him or one of his buddies.

  11. have talked to him a few times also and super cool and will talk back to you about anything...and for his driving skills im gonna go out on a limb and say hes got one of the biggest sets of balls on him outta most the drivers I seen out there.hes a balls to the wall straight  out ripper in the dunes and not scared  hold down the pepper over one dune to the next....and will send it off a dune like a champ.good luck keeping up with him in the dunes on a all out ride.

  12. 2 guys in glacis storage have this big arm attached to the back of there toy hauler with a hinge on the right corner.it swings out and thay a Blackstone and a webber grill mounted to it.looks like it swings a full 90 degrees then you flip down a leg and its ready to use.no storage needed to be taken up and thay are fixed to the unit in the back.if I can find the pic I took on my phone ill post it.

  13. working a few hours this morning then probably go out with the wife for a bit to window shop a few garage sales so she says but I wind up finding some kind of tool for cheap and think of how one day I can use it so ill buy it...lol.then picking up are son later from a dirt bike camping trip at a mx track thay went to with 2 of his buddies and there rad dad for taking them.finished off later with some corona's.

Yeah.. we were at the kiddie tracks,.. first one and you could practically walk to the bathrooms. Wasn't bothered by the WHOMP WHOMP techno going all night,.. cause I just dropped whenever.. but it seemed pretty loud and near the back of 10.

Sometimes in bed at 9pm.. sometimes midnight. We roll tunes, but not loud after 10pm. Fireworks I usually do at 9pm.

Was lots of fun.. back there in 3 weeks, then the next week Kauai for 2 weeks with all four of my kids.. this shot we do every year.. this one is from 2011.

    Sucks to be me... :dan:
