I've been saying "someday" since I was a kid and read every magazine out there.  We are up here for a wedding and decided to come up for a little time away from life.

Not sure what to do today.  Nethercut museum, griffith observatory and hiking in Angeles are on the list.

the holocaust exhibit at the Reagan library, only there for a limited time. ive heard its something worth checking out if your into history.

  3. the thing i see with most job listings, specially the ones that list a salary range is the list of education requirements and experience alot of employers are asking for, people that meet those desired requirements arent gonna work for you at the wages your offering. the city jobs posted here in havasu are the prime example of that. also in the 6 years ive lived here the same jobs are constantly posted, or re posted after a brief time. that tells me theres an issue thats embedded in that dept that people wont work for. the water dept jobs are always posted in havasu, and knowing someone that worked for them briefly i found out why. very toxic work environment (toxic people, managers, dept head) and people wont tolerate a terrible managers attitude for any amount of money. also out here the good paying jobs, are almost always filled by the "good ole boys" club.

i look for jobs weekly just to keep tabs on whats out there since landing a job you can actually pay your living expenses with is almost non existent here in havasu. i also dont understand the thought of im not going to hire someone with that much experience since they could leave anytime for something better. sure that person may use that employment as stepping stone or a temp deal, but if you get value and you business benefits out of employing that person, what are you losing or not gaining by not taking that chance on an experienced person?

these days word of mouth and who you know will get you a job or find an employee more than placing/responding to ads. i have a job interview tomorrow, and only reason i got it was i made a call to someone i know that works at the company and he got my application moved to the front since it initially wasnt getting past the pre-screen computer filters.

Ok, Ive just thrown away my Nextgrill Costco BBQ. Its been a decent grill for 5 years but is just worn out. Warped and rusty.  I'm Looking for portable and fitment into the 5th wheel storage bay.    I am used to setting up a table and putting the grill on that to use.  I see others with their own stands and small side trays.  Curious how they hold up to the sand and storage.

Whats the grill to get? What fits 4 decent steaks and a few taters? What the go to grill today?

Cleaning and prepping here and there for this up coming season.

coleman-portable-gas-grills-2000032831-6 Saw this little Coleman and got me thinking about this style.

those colemans are a pile o crap.

looking around on the interwebz this one looks like a possibility to me https://www.costco.com/nexgrill-cast-aluminum-table-top-gas-bbq.product.100519906.html

ive been using charcoal/wood to cook my steaks for a while now.   for campin i do still have an old olympian 4100 propane grill that works well, but it isnt very big. its cast aluminum top and bottom so holds heat very well with a cast iron heat plate above the burner as well. im considering getting a pk grill for camping. https://www.pkgrills.com/pkgo-w-flipkit/

heat retention is key to a grill. the more mass to hold heat the better it cooks overall. the thin sheetmetal grills just dont cook well and use a ton of propane to get the job done.

At the recommendation of a couple of my Glamis friends who moved from CA to Havasu; we drove out from Seal Beach to check it out.   It just felt like we were back in the OC in the 70’s.

Our friend drove us all around looking at housing and properties.  None of the homes were what we wanted but we found a piece of land that day and bought it.

That was 5 years ago.  For all the reasons listed already, we love it here.  We got a pontoon boat,  Of course we have the Tatum and we ordered a “to be seen to believe” RG.  BTW Robbie says Havasu will be the west coast headquarters.

We love the small-town feel. There are no streetlights or sidewalks, and the speed limit is 35mph everywhere.  Lots of good food except Sushi.  Miles and miles of trails,  some rock crawling, and plenty of open shooting.  I swear there is chit going on every weekend. Car gatherings Thursday nights on main street. Run to the Sun, Desert storm, Super Cats. UTV championships, Jet ski worlds and just down in Parker drag boats and circle/ ski races.

So from the land purchase,  2 ½ years of design and plan check we finally got started on the build.  I am doing it as Owner Builder.

As stated already, everyone including contractors work on Havasu time.  After site prep and retaining walls built, I had my first column footing poured.  That took 6 months to complete the 5X5X13 footing with a well-known and very reputable contractor.  We were still in CA and discovered you could never count on a firm commitment to weekly work plan.  So, we sold the CA home (for stupid money) and bought a home in Havasu to live in while building our dream home.  Shortly after we got here, from another group of Glamis peeps we find out my buddies’ wife had an uncle who was a contractor in Kingman.  He turned me on to a guy (Sal) from CA who had a civil crew.  Wow did they come in and chit and git-it.  In the first month they did 2 more 5X5X13 footings and all the lower garage column footings. Next Sal got me some steel erectors out of CA.  They put up 62 tons of steel in 30 days with 3 guys.  All these guys are cash only and I provided the hotel rooms.

Today I’m 95% done with framing and now I’m ready to start the easy stuff.  Electricians, Plumbing, Stucco, Roofing, Cabinets & Counters, Drywall, flooring, and xxxx and xxxx and xxxx.  All local guys.

I hope I live long enough to see it done.

are you the one that bought that lot on colt? was apartially built house that burned during construction years ago.

I have a few friends that say the exact same thing - they still have boats and sand cars sitting and I can never get them to go out - they just say its paradise every day here  - I used to go out to get away and relax, now I come home to relax.  I never got that in AZ  being there part time ..  but I believe you would full time

I started looking at Yuma  since I still travel a bit for work if mostly at home -  I did the run to Las Vegas a number of times for flights from Havasu  - that gets real old  real fast...   Yuma is near the river, near Glamis  both within an hour, and a real airport in town.  Good hospitals - got think about that getting older, Havasu is good on healthcare - but anything big they fly you to Vegas. Then there is the border in Yuma, but ... maybe that gets fixed in 2024

I can get a nice newer house, and a couple acres in Yuma a 2500 sq ft shop and a pool  about half the cost of Havasu right now, but not sure of the culture.

Its amazing how all of AZ has a significantly higher crime rate (by on line stats) than my town (Torrance) in CA  but I never felt that way in Havasu. They rate Havasu same as Yuma C- in most crime, most coastal cities in CA are A- like mine , makes you wonder

I  use some stupid measurements to determine culture of where I want to live  - How red is it,  what is the percentage of RV garages, how many car clubs,  Plusess...how many chain restaurants and 7-11's Minuses ..., percentage of college grads ...  A mixed bag  and of course healthcare, and location

actually on health care.. havasu is the worst place if you need constant health care. the hospital here sucks ass. the general census is if you can live long enough to make it to kingman or vegas or phoenix, do it. only go to havasu regional as a last resort or your bleeding out, active heart attack.

  7. you gotta decide what you want out of the area you live in. the phoenix area has everything you could ever need or want short of small town living. Living here in Havasu i love the small town atmoshpere, the fact theres little to no chain resturaunts, its a slower pace of life for sure. if you move to a place like Havasu, you need to change your expectations on alot of things. nothing gets done here quickly, Havasu time much like island time is real, and if you need to work and expect a wage similiar to calif, dont bother moving to Arizona, that chit aint happening especially in Havasu. phoenix erea has much more opportunities in that regard but wages are still less than what you would get for same job in calif. i got out of calif in 2017, i couldnt afford it today. one thing i keep saying these days when asked why i sold my boat when i live at a lake, dont go to glamis much at all, etc.. is i no longer live a life i need to escape from. socal living was stressful, and i couldnt wait to go somewhere for the weekends, these days are much different.

  8. went thru the list of all the vehicles ive had.. by the numbers im a chevy guy

    11 chevy's

    5 fords

    1 dodge

    1 toyota

currently i have the dodge, 2 chevy's, and the toyota. the ones i have put the most miles on are the fords, dodge and toyota.

  9. mvd, you gotta have it inspected by adot also. level 2 inspection if i recall. i just went to the mvd here in havasu on the day that adot is on site and did everything in about an hour. inspection first, adot officer does his deal and puts the vin on, then you go inside the mvd and pay your omeny for a title and plate.

  10. working on stereo stuff in my truck. built a ported box for 3 12's, and finally getting around to installing a set of morel 6x9 components i bought a while back. had to make spacers so the magnets dont hit the windows.  ongoing project, had to order some supplies to finish it. plan to have it buttoned up in the next week or so until i redo the amp rack with a dsp and go full active with new amps as well.
