To bad you went Zuki, I have a great set for a Yamaha for sale.

What are you selling for a Yamaha? My son’s Raptor 700 is ready for a new paddle set. Send me a PM with the details. Thannks!

  2. We had a Project Manager embezzle 1.5m a few years ago. We had to beg the FBI to take the case as they originally said “it wasn’t enough money to justify their time”. Only reason they took the case was because it was a federal contract he was managing and that he used to facilitate the crime. They ended up doing a great job on the investigation and had him dead to rights. He ended up pleading guilty and was sentenced to 4.5 years. Then along came COVID and they let him out on compassionate release after only serving about a year. Our insurance covered $1m of the loss. He has a 20 year restitution judgement but I’m sure neither us or the insurance company will ever see a dime from him.

  3. I left CA 21 years ago and don’t miss it at all. Zero desire to live there again. Only problem I have now is Oregon is becoming more like CA every day 🤑🤑. Oregon income tax is up to 9.75% but no sales tax. But all indications are they will add sales tax in the near future.

Vegas is currently top of our very short list of possible retirement spots in a few years. I may try to find a 1-2 acre lot and build a house and shop. But my wife wants to be close to amenities (shops, restaurants, coffee houses, groceries, etc). I doubt I will find much of a lot near these amenities but we’ll see. My father-in-law lives in a high rise condo in Summerlin and loves it. I thought about doing the condo thing then just doing my shop within a reasonable drive but that doesn’t sound super appealing to me to have drive to my shop.

  4. I have three of these air hose reels and really like them. I also have three bigger, commercial duty type reels but honestly I prefer these:

For piping, I bought two of these kits and then a roll of the same hose as I needed more. Easy to install and works great. I thought it was 1" but it is 3/4"

I'm looking at the same issue with my RV garage right now (existing structure on the property I bought, but I want to add some things).  I've spoken to a few 'experts' and one possibility is a remote sealed system that then pumps over to the existing septic via macerator.  I'm not even sure what the name for that type of system is, and obviously a lot will depend on your State/County/City rules.

We're doing a remodel on the whole house as well as the RV garage stuff, so I have my general looking into it.  I'll let you know what we find...

As for stuff to add to an RV garage, mine is basically a blank template right now:

    RVgarage1.thumb.jpg.d4428e2f3bf55d6d2a58521b11007102.jpg

    RVgarage2.thumb.jpg.9d9ae6531bce4a5e5cf39ec8282bf89a.jpg

    RVgarage3.thumb.jpg.0b2562865f4583b3fc8fdd5a317963e9.jpg

The first thing I would say is: bigger is better.  This is 48' deep (inside dimension) by 38' at the "kick out" and it'll be great for us, but if it could be bigger, I'd obviously take bigger.  Beyond that, my list at this point is:

    • Spay-foam insulation (for this garage it's looking like about $3k more for spray-foam than traditional BATT, and way worth it)
    • Drywall and finish wall/ceilings
    • AC (looking at 2 x 3-ton Mini-split systems)
    • 50 amp in strategic positions (the RV will back in along the long-side, so RV hookup will be towards the back-left, I'm planning a 2-post lift in the opposite back corner so 50 amp back there, then in the "kick out" I'll have welding/work tables and such so def 50 amp over there)
    • 20 amp (not 15) urrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrywhere
    • Tons of LED lights (replacing all these florescent tubes, but also adding lights - consider some lights on an angle a few feet down the wall too, not just the celling)
    • Small bathroom (bathroom will go in the corner between the window and the man-door, man-door will stay for access to bathroom from outside, debating doing doing a shower or not, shop bathroom would double as easy to wash-down pool bathroom so might do shower, or might do outdoor pool shower)
    • Storage loft in portion of kick-out (starting above the bathroom and going probably half of the rest of the way down the remaining part of the wall leaving room for stairs)
    • 2-post lift
    • Clean out (this is a maybe, even if we can do the sewer system as planned this would be the opposite side of the garage and I plan to park the RV really close to the wall, my property has the trailer storage on the opposite side of the house from the RV garage, so plan is actually having my dump over there, which happens to be where the septic is, so I'll back RV and trailer in, drop trailer and dump there, then park RV)
    • Considering compressor and plumbing air... but honestly I just use cordless electric for everything.  I suppose if I was doing body work I'd need air, but I'm not going to be doing that (a- don't have the time or skills b- not going to do body work next to my RV) or doing a lot of plasma cutting or something, but I think a decent roll-around compressor will suit me just fine
    • Solar (another maybe, need to run the numbers on ROI, but my the longer peak of my RV garage roof is almost exactly East/West, meaning it has a giant South-facing slab 'o roof)
    • Hose bibs
    • Drain in floor (so you can use it for washing/detailing out of the sun - in my case this is a big maybe cuz my foundation/floor are already poured probably not worth trenching for but I'm going to get a $ number on it and decide - but if you're starting from scratch DO IT)
    • Beer fridge 😉

I would re-think your roll-around air compressor. I agree, mostly battery tools these days but with RV's, trailers, trucks, SxS, rails, etc all having tires you will want air quickly convenient to check and air all these dang tires. And when the shop starts to fill up it's not always easy to maneuver a compressor around. I sometimes have a challenge just rolling a jack and service cart around when I get too many projects going at once. Adding a central compressor and piping is not all that expensive. And having hose reels around to quickly deploy air then get the hoses back out of the way is very convenient.

  6. Maybe someone mentioned it and I missed it, but give thought to where your compressor will go and then air piping. I put my compressor outside the shop in a little shed along the back corner then plumbed it in and ran piping all over and have like 6 hose reels. I barely hear it running. I went with the 1" pex type piping that you buy as a kit designed and rated for air service. Do not use PVC.

  7. I use the Dewalt 20v 1/4" impact at home and it get used just about daily. I don't like having multiple battery types and voltages so all my cordless stuff is Dewalt 20v. The only tool that ever failed was one drill. Everything else has been great. I have all my old Craftsman 19.2v stuff at my weekend place. I have to say, I have built several large decks, a shop and other items and driven thousands of screws with that little Craftsman 1/4' impact and it is still going strong!

Regardless of brand, the 1/4" impacts are hands down the tool I use the most.

  8. I have two shops on two different properties. One is a 40x60 the other is 30x48. Build the biggest shop you can fit and afford. You can never have too big but certainly can have too small. My 40x60 is a pole building, the 30x48 was a steel kit. Both work just as well. Here’s some mistakes I made:

1- the 30 x 48 is too narrow. Doors are on the long side so each bay is 30’ deep. Fit my needs at the time, but now I can’t put my Moho or bigger enclosed trailer in it. I’m also limited on boat size. I have one 12’ tall door and two 10’ tall doors. This was a big mistake. Really limits what I can get in.

    2. The 40x60 is better, also has doors on the long side so bays are 40’ deep. But I only have one 14’ tall door and two 12’ tall doors. I have to park my Moho in the 14’ tall door bay. Now I’m eyeing a stacker and will have to modify to add another 14’ tall door. I’m also limited to a Moho under 40’. This limits my options as I look to upgrade.

    Some things I did right:

    1. I prefer lots of doors/bays vs a door on the end. It gets crowded inside very quick if you have to jockey around trailers, boats and RV’s and you will greatly limit what you can get in/out.

    2. I highly recommend a bathroom, deep sink, and 220v power. Even if you think you don’t need these now, add the infrastructure if nothing else.

    3. I have a dedicated repair bay with a 10k lift with extra height. One of the best investments I have ever made. You may want to reinforce the floor for a lift. Yes, they will work with 4” of concrete but 6” is much better.

    4. I recommend building it tall so you can put in a storage loft.

  9. I’m at Florence dunes right now. The weather is spectacular and the sand is nice and dry. Campgrounds and day use lots are pretty full but surprisingly the dunes do not feel very crowded. Hope you have a safe trip with tons of fun!

I just don't see it happening yet.  Maybe by the middle of next year.  Housing market is still high demand and low inventory and interest rates are below 3%.  People are still overbidding on houses.  When housing slows and construction slows then the rest will follow.

I tend to agree with this. Yes, the free/cheap money is running out. But the supply chain disruptions will take more time to sort out and return to normal. At least to whatever the new normal will be. And keep in mind the job market is also crazy so people getting more disposable income to spend on toys.

  11. I'm in the large, commercial marine business. Shortages everywhere. Pumps, valves, electrical, steel, pipe ,aluminum, lumber. Prices going up rapidly. And prices and shortages getting worse every day.

Waters Edge Lodge in Elfin Cove.

That’s a nice area. I’m not familiar with that lodge but anything along the outer west and north coasts is usually great fishing. I go to Waterfall resort every August which is on Prince of Wales and we almost always limit on Coho and King each day. The halibut fishing is not that great though and the crazy reverse slot thing when your on a charter is a PITA.

Mostly trout fishing with some ocean stuff dabbled in. Took a trip up to the Sierras a few weeks ago. Didn’t catch much but it’s better than sitting at home. Have got an Alaska lodge trip planned for July of 2022.

Where you going in Alaska? Just curious. I’m in Alaska currently.

  14. I prefer Florence area. It’s a good size dune area with some larger hills then smaller rolling dunes. You can drive along the beach too if you want. Keep in mind, none of the Oregon dunes areas are even close to the size of Glamis nor have hills like Olds. However, they are still quite fun and have trees, the ocean, and a nice experience.
We like Florence as we have a membership to a members only campground there that has full hook-ups, nice clean bathrooms and showers, easy direct dunes access, and a pretty mellow family atmosphere. There are other campgrounds at Florence too, or you can camp on the sand or do day trips from several parking lot/access points. Florence also has convenience of being close to town with restaurants, hotels, fuel and several power sports dealers and auto parts stores if you need them.
I’m sure GBR will chime in here shortly as he’s another Oregon local. He usually does Coos Bay I believe.
