Call me crazy but I had to add four more rosette welds for a total of eight. Plus welded all the way around the edge. I also need some sort of 6-point flat to put a wrench on it to tighten each tie rod. I don't really want to cut into this tube and make it any thinner anywhere. Not quite sure what to do with that.

Well, they only control the truck and your safety. Weld away!

I could have gone through my insurance company, paid a deductible, then would have had to fight to get my deductible back etc

Usually if you use your own insurance company (maybe a better offer) they will subrogate back to the other company and collect your deductible as well. Most times, MOST TIMES, the other insurance company will pay the bill no questions asked and do it a timely manner.

  3. If you do buy it back, make sure to keep pictures so you can show damage to next potential owner for their comfort. You can also reduce your money hit when selling a salvage title vehicle with them showing the small amount of damage.

I did two separate cuts. The first cut was only 2 in which left the window channel in place. That allowed me to make my bracket and weld it in and then make a second cut to the final edge. It's cool that my door latch rod and lever do not have to be disturbed. I may have to cut a little bit more off the bottom of the window guide. Have to decide if I'm going to mig or tig all of this.

  5. Summer trips are so nice it gets you to rethinking the trips during the season. Never ran at night though. Run early morning until about 10;30 or so then go back out 6pm or so. My first summer run the daytime temps were around 114 and made me question my decision, not after a few runs.  Yes, even some with long sleeves in the am.

So back in 1968 My dad built this Corvette gasser.  It was very fast for the late 60s and held some AHRA records. In 1971 the car crashed and was destroyed. Here is a write up on the HAMB from 2013.   (More photos at the bottom of that articl) The car was loaded up in a truck and brought back to the shop. Everyting thrown away or sold. Not a single part was saved. I have always wanted something from that car. So today an 80 year old gentleman calls our shop and says I bought the front wheels from your dad. Guessing 1971.  I was like sure and called Ken who was driving. Never thought the wheels would have survived. He said the front end was ripped away including the fiberglass.  So I call him and he remembered all kinds of stuff including my dad doing burnouts on Mariposa when he built the Guggies gasser. So now I am real excited. Drive out this afternoon to his home and bought this wheels. Very personal for me to have these back in our family.
