  2. Home - North County School (northcountyschoolofdriving.com)

This is who we used for our 16 year old. He has taken his first 2 hour session and really enjoyed it. The guy pretty much told him , if he took the drivers test now, he would pass. They do 3 ea. 2 hour sessions for $465.  The other school I looked at charged $600 for the same thing. These guys even said to wait on the last session till the week before there test, and they would go over everything they needed for the test so it was fresh in there heads.

  3. In my business, (plastics and fiberglass)  it has slowed down a little bit in December,  But this was pretty normal before Covid. The last 3 years really have not been normal, so I guess I'm seeing a market correction of sorts.  While the money is down a bit, I have great receivables in contrast for the next month and I have bid on some pretty large jobs for 2024 (some have already kicked off)  I think the trick to navigating the current market , at least for me, has been diversity. We are in so many different markets right now, that we shift based on the trends of today and what's coming.

  5. Retirement!!   What's that?   Seriously, What's that?    I am heir to the family business. I just turned 50, and really don't have a clear retirement plan. Because of the type of business that we are (custom machining and fabrication) It has made it difficult to create that path. Without me , the business is really just the contents of the building (witch we own) My dad is 73 and really hasn't made work decisions for the last 5 years or so, but technically still owns the company.  It doesn't make sense for me to buy the company, because my folks would get killed on capitol gains tax,  So I pretty much just pay them whatever they want and let them do whatever they want and I run the business. When there gone, I get it.  That could be in 5 to 20 years, depending on there health.

Boardmanville is a tool, I'll never give them a dime of my money.

Do you know Lance? (owner of Boardmanville)   He's actually a pretty good dude and does allot to help keep the dunes open. He gets sent the video's,  he's not the one who actually took the video.

I'm curious if anybody knows the history of the company. Was the guy a fabricator from a top tier shop and went independent ?  I would hate to end up with another Sand Candy type car. Is this thing on par with the likes of some of the other smaller name brands like Amplified, Wuerth , RFR , Sandwinder , etc.

I talked with the owner years ago about building a car. He didn't last long.  I think one of his cars was involved in an accident early on and he got sued. Not sure if that's what led to his demise, or what. I do remember seeing pictures of his earlier builds and his seatbelts were routed to the floor. I found it to be odd. This car looks more like  DD car then a sand stallion, but who knows. Dave at DD built allot of chassis for other builders.  Hell , I almost used him for the manx's.  It could be one of his cars with another brand name attached to it.

  8. pretty sure you can't after 30 minutes or something. You have to message a mod.

It's a pretty stupid thing and has really made the site less interactive. I used to use this site for information and to sell stuff, but now that you cannot edit your own posts, I barely ever use it. Ever since the site crashed, it has really changed, and not for the better in my opinion.

Can anybody confirm that these flat "Star Mount" enclosures work well?  I know the stock dish moves itself to aim, so not sure what you give up by having a fixed flat mount. I assume there must be a reason they went through the trouble to make the auto aiming base for the dish.

I make the plastic enclosures for this guy  STAR-MOUNT Systems: Mounting Solutions for Starlink Satellite Internet – Star Mount Systems

And all I can say is,  We cant keep up!  Yes,  they work well in most areas.  We are also getting ready to make a fully self contained battery powered version for another guy. While not necessarily on topic with the original post, I'll share this.

As a job seeker, it has become almost impossible to keep up and give potential employers what they are looking for.  "Bob" has worked here 35 years and is retiring.  We need a replacement for "Bob".  So, employers write such a detailed list of requirements to fill "Bob's" shoes.  You will never find "Bob".  It shuts out and discourages so much other talent.  Whatever happened to OJT, training, giving someone a chance and grooming them for your needs?

Job listings are so detailed and now all this "keyword" crap.  Who can keep up?  Then, you have automated screening software.  And yes, I have entered the age of "age discrimination" (50 plus).

Here's a bit about me.  3 Master's degrees (one's an MBA).  Retired Naval Officer/pilot.  I managed major programs with over $5 billion in assets.  I am very dynamic, very adaptable, lots of experiences, leadership, process improvement.  I'm highly trained in crisis action planning, risk management, safety/crash investigation.  I currently manage government licensing and certification for a global logistics company.  The list goes on.  Yet, everyone tells me my resume isn't the problem, but apparently it is because I get rejections s fast as I submit the application.

Guess what...none of that has ever helped me get a foot in the door.  The only way I got my current job was from a friend recommending me to the company.

AND...why list "remote" for the position when it means..."remote" in Chicago, Tampa, New York...  COVID showed us what "remote" is...it's not living/working in a city separate of the corporate office, it's at home and some travel involved.

If I was to lose my job or get fed up and quit, I'm just going back to being retired.  I'd love to keep working and padding my future and lifestyle, but it's not worth the endless rejections and not being "Bob" to fill the over detailed requirements.

I hate to say it, but you should "own the ship" and not be the worker bee anymore.  You are over qualified and would most likely run rings around the top guys.  This scares the hiring company most of the time. Plus,  you don't really need the job and are only doing it to not be bored. I think this would discourage me from hiring someone like you, unless I got you super cheap and could reap the benefits of your knowledge until you got bored and found something else to do!!
