Current diesel emissions snuff the reliability and fuel economy out of oil-burners.  Ford 7.3 gas is currently the $/mile king for us, my guys are seeing 11-12mpg ish with a service bed.   14-15mpg with the same truck burning oil, but since diesel is 50% more per gallon everywhere the gas is more $ efficient and waaaaaay cheaper to maintain. No worries about contaminated fuel either.

68RFE is the fire issue from a leaking dipstick.  Aisin has an ECU issue I believe.  @Deviantduner just had his trans replaced under warranty, and there are a bunch there for the same.  Apparently some capacitor or whatever is causing them to fail.

The ECU issue was certain engine serial numbers, and was not specific to SO/68RFE, or HO/ Aisin. It was pretty limited in scope model by model.  Less than 2,000 3500 pickups, IIRC, plus 2500 and Cab & Chassis trucks as ESN dictates.

  2. Unable to edit my post above. I meant to say "If you go with a Ram, buy a 3500 with Cummins HO and Aisin".

Also, I have a buddy near New Braunfels, and he has had very good luck with Bluebonnet Dodge.

I've got Three (3) F-550 Fords and One (1) 2-ton INTL. Went to the Dodge dealer yesterday to test drive the 3500 they had in stock. They have ALL diesels on NO SALE list. Apparently there is an issue in the transmission that has every Dodge Diesel on RECALL. Well that sucks! Peace

The issue is only 68RFE trucks. Buy a 3500 with HO Cummins and Aisin.  Open the hood  and if the trans dipstick is on the left(driver's) side it's an Aisin trans.

And I will echo the prior post about avoiding CP4 trucks. Ford is the only one still running them. Ram foolishly tried it in 2019 and 2020 and learned their lesson. They are back to the reliable CP3. GM dumped it when the L5P came out in 2017(?) and are running  Denso HP4, which is conspicuously similar to the CP3. Not a fan of the OEM fuel filtration on the L5P, though.

  4. We have a 2012 Acura TSX that we bought new. Mechanically, it has been super reliable, needing nearly nothing beyond normal service. The interior, not so much. The seats are failing miserably. From reading various Acura forums, this is a common issue. A seat repair/recon also guy told me it is very common on Honda and Acura so-called leather/pleather, and said it's a material issue, and repair is a waste of time. We have had cars and trucks with leather for over 30 years, and this is the only one to give trouble.

We had an excellent guy here in Wickenburg, but he moved to Cottonwood. I have gotten a couple eye-watering quotes to re-upholster. Also found a place on line that has replacement covers(not slip overs), but the site is a little sketchy looking. I haven't ruled that out, though.  Katzkin doesn't cover it.

Our son drives it, and I don't know how long he'll keep it, as it doesn't have all the whizz-bang tech of new cars.  Any recommendations for good work for a non-show car?

Lee Greenwood and Larry Gatlin both supported gun control after the Uvalde debacle. Eff them.

And I'm sorry but Trump just needs to go away, now, and shut his piehole. Time to move on.
