The Bar 10 is on the north rim in the AZ strip, they have their own strip. they fly customers up from the river to the ranch and then out by plane to get home.  Pretty cool set up.

I believe western river expeditions rafting offers longer tours a stay at the bar 10.

  2. I work in the auto parts business. I work for a manufacturer though. The auto zones, o'reilly's, etc. are bottom tier garbage parts.  You can get good replacement parts there sometimes that may last but they aren't up to OEM specifications and often fail quickly. Reman parts are even worse. The warranty is generally figured in to the cost. People will often buy the cheaper part with a warranty verses the OEM part that costs twice as much if not more. The cheap parts manufacturers make it up by lack of quality control. Labor is expensive and by cutting out some quality checkpoints, the manufacturer can save some money and is able to sell a cheaper part.

Last I heard, Napa was still selling high quality replacement parts. Advanced Auto also did though I don't know if they are even still in business (I just realized advanced was the company that did you dirty and caused this post. 🙄). Generally, if you see a company deliver to a local shop, the parts are of good quality. The shop has to honor their own warranty and won't waste labor installing a part twice if they can help it.

Figured I’d jump in here with a question kind of in the subject. Retiring for the second time here on the 31st. My yard tools here in the Mojave consist of a hulahoe, a garden rake, and a 48 inch landscaping rake. Moving up to Visalia and the wife is going to have to let Jorge, Jesus, and Jaime go. Not paying someone to do what I can do for free.

So here’s what I need from you experienced masses here on GD.com: I would like to find a set of battery operated tools that consist of a lawnmower, a weed eater that doubles as an edger, a hedge trimmer, and a pole saw. Is there any such a “kit”? Is there anything I’m leaving out or overlooking when it comes to lawn/yard care?

Haven’t owned a lawnmower since I moved off base and sold my 19 year old Craftsman gas mower back in 2001. Seems technology has changed, and not even sure you can buy a gas mower in California anymore.

I don’t mind going electric with my move but I would like a set of tools that all use the same battery. Thanks fella’s.

While not offered in a kit, you can buy each item individually from makita using their 18V line. I have owned a dual line brushless string trimmer and a hedge trimmer (They sell a hedge trimmer/string trimmer set that swaps out the head, probably has an edger head available also) and both have been great tools with 5 amp hour batteries. I wouldn't even consider cordless electric if you will have a big property since you will be swapping batteries often but for a typical tract yard, they work great.

    This sucks

I have done this before trying to speculate on single stocks. That is usually a bad Idea. You will always have buddies that tell you about the whale they caught but never about all the ones that got away.

Next time just buy low a cost index fund like VTSAX and leave it alone for decade or two. I think this year it is up like 25%. If you try and make a quick win in the market you will get smoked in most cases.

    Get rich slowly !

This is a good read if you want to learn about why you and no one else can pick winning stocks

  5. I tried my hand at the stock market and lost 30% of my investment in a month. I started with $40K. Ouch. I had little idea f what I was doing and knew getting in at the top of the market was a huge gamble but inflation was kicking in hard. I haven't sold my stocks yet but plan on selling the 2 that haven't lost anything (yet) and sell some of the losing stock to claim on taxes. Gold and silver used to be a great hedge but not these days. It doesn't move much. I think because the interest has gone to crypto. I think crypto is a pyramid scheme just looking for the next sucker. There is absolutely money to be made on it though.

I get asked pretty often by people who are interested in welding what to start with. Buy this, it is a fantastic machine to learn on. Being that it's flux it's just pull the trigger and go, no need to try to learn about gas and CFUs and mixtures, etc. You can weld a multitude of steel with it, and yes there's slag, but get a slag hammer and a grinder and go for it. It's dirt cheap and is super portable. I started with this machine, stepped up to a MIG, and now do about 95% TIG. But I still kept this little hobart and from time to time love pulling it out and using it for small project.

I used my Dads hobart handler 110V machine. A 120 handler I believe. I did practice a bunch before repairing the gate but it turned out passable. I want to buy the 240V version, the iron horse for me. I used an argon mix and the welder never shut off due to duty cycle which I exceeded.

One of the magical things that happens when you cross the CA border and leave the state is that it suddenly becomes safe to tow above 55mph.

Driving my car at the time through Salt Lake city and got behind a couple of dodge duallys pulling Grand Design fifth wheels. We did between 75-88 for about 40 miles through traffic and they could drive the hell out of those setups. Stable as could be. I was drafting.

Rocking my old-school Cerwins in the garage.

I had a fantastic pair of LS15 Cerwin Vegas that I sold to Ocotillo boy. For a big booming unsophisticated box, I loved those things. I thought they sounded great. Maybe I don't have the nuances it takes to be an audiophile but my wallet says that isn't a bad thing. 😁

  9. Yup, skat trak can make any tire into a paddle tire like that. They made that one. Depending on the tire used, the finished product will have a rounded form like that or a flat form. Ohtsu was a Japanese tire manufacturer who made great tires and made most of the tires that came on japanese bikes since the eighties. Dunlop makes similar quality tires these days.

NICE! Used to be a place in Riverside off of Indiana that had some incredible high end audio. Bought my subwoofer there and I've got a set of Robert's Architectural Audio in-walls (all hand wound and constructed) in the rest of the room. Sadly, I sacrificed some of the performance of these when I went to a Yamaha receiver as the Marantz I had was better quality but dated and stuck on 5.1 with no HDMI :crying: ...still kicks ass though :hethan:

Marantz and McIntosh make some really great sounding equipment. I was using a Sony ES 5.1 receiver that I loved but it was huge and heavy and when I downsized to this apartment, I sold it to not have to store or move it. Lots of people push Preamp/Tube amp setups. I need to listen before I make that jump. I like the simplicity of a higher end all in one.

Oh man I have been a Klipsch nut all of my adult life. Personally have owned many models and different Klipsch speakers. All the way up to a pair of Corner horns which I had probably 30 years ago. Wish I still had them.  They now go for some serious money. https://www.ebay.com/itm/114910541056?hash=item1ac133b500:g:nXAAAOSwjyVhAXpE  I would not be afraid to look on search tempest or craigslist and buy a used vintage pair. Most people take very good care of them. So many to choose from. Smaller speaker but one of my favorites was always the KG4s. Just sold a pair a few years back I had bought new in the late 80s. https://www.klipsch.com/products/kg-4 They are still no joke for their size.  Have also owned Heresys, Cornwalls, Fortes, La Scallas, and now own a pair of KG 5.5s. Those were last built in 1997. You can do a search for any vintage klipsch speaker and find a link to the info on their website. Like this for my speakers. https://www.klipsch.com/products/kg-5-5 I personally like the older speakers. Just something about them. https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/8933-older-klipsch-speakers-why-are-they-worth/  Here is a hand built entertainment center my dad built around the 5.5s Built out of alder. I helped him buy the speakers and he later built the unit. We ended up with it and love it. Behind the bottom grill is a Cambridge Soundworks Sub to go along with them. Plenty of rumble and awesome for movies.

WOW! That cabinet is beautiful.  Your Dad does great work. K Horns have been the ultimate setup for as long as I can remember. I'll never have the room to house them, I'd be satisfied just hearing them some time. The Heresy model was originally designed as a center channel to fill in between 2 Klipschorns.

Depending on which kappa's you had you'd have to spend $10 grand for speakers that sound as good. New isn't always better when it comes to audio quality. I just restored some kappa 8's and kappa 7's. Someone finally made a true polydome replacement. It's music Nirvana.

I'm a huge fan of denon. I run a modern AVR and some old Denon POA amplifiers.

Is there a big difference between a modern high quality A/V receiver and tube amps? I've never heard tube amps and have been happy with the higher end receivers I have been using.

I’ve had my eye on this setup for a while but they’ve been out of stock for the last several months. Will be in stock November apparently.

I watch the PSAudio youtube channel every so often. Great info. They have a listening room with an Infinity ISRV setup that will blow you away. It's a distant cousin to the Infinity floor standers I had awhile ago.

When I was into home audio I ran Mirage and they were amazing.  Klipsch is ok for what you get at Best Buy but you asked for high end.  Had a friend with a B&W (Bowers and Wilkins) set up 2 floor a center and 4 ceiling.  He played a clip from Phantom of the Opera and I was utterly blown away.  Almost as if you were at a live performance.  We scrolled through Jazz and Rock and I couldnt be more impressed.  I wanted a set up but hes a rich doctor and can afford that stuff.  Good luck.

These aren't what you find at best buy. My old reference series bookshelf speakers were though. The Heresy line is part of the Klipsch heritage series. Pretty hi end stuff. I'm not married to them in any way and would do some serious listening before dropping $3K on them but I'm at a stage in my life where I can pursue  a nice stereo setup.

Klipsch Heresy III Heritage Series Review – Bass Head Speakers

  12. I'm doing some dreaming here and wondered if we have any audiophiles on the board? My next house will have a dedicated stereo for music listening. For electronics, I will start with the small denon all in one receiver/CD player I have currently till I move up to a higher end receiver or amp/preamp setup.

I'm curious what people like for speakers. I have my eye on a new set of Klipsch Heresy III's. My last good speakers were a large set of klipsch reference series bookshelf speakers. I like the way they sounded but I owned a set of Infinity floor standing towers with a kappa ribbon tweeter that sounded amazing. I'll take a trip to a store to test some ribbon tweeter speakers before I buy, some ELACs or B&O's. What do you like? The best speaker I've ever heard is a bose 901. Before you crucify me and say those aren't real high quality speakers, they sounded amazing. They were installed by an audio pro in the house of my friends parents, way up in the air in a house with 20' ceilings.
