    That’s outrageous!

My sister’s husband is a manager/foreman for a large roofing company.  They’re based in Lakewood.  I’ll ask if they serve your area.

Thanks bud. I don't think they would make that 70 mile drive for such a small job but I appreciate the offer.

Honestly 14 squares ain’t much to do for a couple guys. I’d buy a couple staplers and tackle it.

my old house was 15 squares I did it mostly myself had father and law and brother in law stop by to help load the plywood. I tore off half of it myself one layer of wood shingle and one of comp shingles I said f that paid 500 for 3 guys to do the front half.

back then I was getting the osb for 5 something a sheet x 55-60,and shingles from one of our suppliers for 45 bucks something a square for 30 year.( I don’t do roofing but we bought our hot mop material from him)want to say I spent about 3000-3500 total

I know today material is way up like three times bs 08 but labor is the big cost now. Old neighbor spent 16k for a sImilar roof just 3 years ago.

I want 3/4" nails in a 6 nail high wind pattern. Not staples. I thought about doing it myself but in this high Santa Ana wind location and with a full time job and school to boot, I don't feel comfortable taking on the job. I've done a tear off before but haven't installed underlayment or shingles. Yeah, I figure labor was a big portion. The quote listed each item such as shingles, starter, and drip edge and their squares or linear feet but wouldn't list cost. I have asked for clarification but it looks like most of the cost will be for the warranty which isn't worth the paper it's written on.

When you say tear off, are you including plywood too or just shingle?

Getting my Prescott house and detached 3 car garage re-roofed - new shingles and metal edge for $26k. House by itself is 2063 sq'

Tear off down to the sheathing. We expect some water damage but the roof currently on it has drip edge so shouldn't need much.

We live west of phoenix and just spent $13,700 for underlayment replacement on our tile roof for 1900 sqft house. They used Fontana underlayment and the roofing company has a 2yr warranty on their workmanship. They had to replace 2 full sheets worth of plywood at several areas at the eaves due to rot. I don't know if they did a good job or not it hasn't rained here yet lol.

3 years ago I could have got the same job done for $7500 but waited because we didn't want to spend the money.

Thanks KLC. My Dad was quoted $22K several years ago and he passed thinking that was highway robbery. We are betting prices go back down next year as who can afford a $40K roof repair?

Galvalume over the shingles (a couple grand worth) take advantage of the extra insulating properties and call it good for the next 40 years

    Peas

We know shingle roofs. Good shingles well installed with a quality underlayment will last close to 30 years here. Nothing lasts past that without some more work. Tile can last 50 years plus but the underlayment can't. The companies have all been pushing synthetic underlayment but I prefer 30# felt. I know that will last as long as the shingles but the synthetic stuff is a big unknown.

  2. I've been getting quotes for complete tear off of old roof and new comp shingle roof put on my parents modest 1400 sq/ft home near San Bernardino. 50 year roof with bat insulation installed in the attic was quoted at $42K. Another company quoted Owens Corning shingles w/ 50 year warranty and with blown in insulation quotes at $38K. They quoted the same shingles and different synthetic underlayment but with only a 10 year warranty for $30K. I know asphalt shingles don't last for 30 years, much less 50. It seems that the majority of the cost is going toward this warranty which is bullsh@*. The same as any other roofing warranty. Is there a licensed roofer near San Bernardino that installs a basic 30 year roof without tacking on $20K in upcharges? Has anyone been quoted for a new shingle roof lately?

So the intent was not to make each weld airtight but those joints are welded very well. Even if there was a pinhole it would just go to the next angle piece in the frame and that cavity. No way two of those in succession leak. I will drill each one and put some pressure on it with a gauge. Brilliant!! :dude:

It's an idea that's been used for fluid since at least the early 1900's so not mine but I'll be stoked for you if it works. Teeing the two together should work just fine. If you can weld both sides airtight, a connecting tube should be no problem. The air will introduce moisture into the frame rails. Will that be a problem?

I like the rough size of that filter. That is a 3" and my turbo is a 4". So similar size just a little bigger. Think I will call K and N tech department and talk about airflow. Lot of CFM at 600hp.

Damn. I saw 4" flange and thought it was correct. It's 4" O.D. but 3" I.D. K&N should have something that should work. I agree that I would prefer an air box but as a street rod, the filter might work. Will heat be an issue? It's not the hot side but still gonna be hot. As an aside, a 4" tube with pie cut bends would make a nice attention getter to draw the eye and get you the space you need for a standard clamp on filter. An air box might detract from what you want to do and would need to be close to ideal in size for the motor to pull from without giving unwanted characteristics like surging off idle.

  5. Is it too late to box in a frame member to use as your air tank? That could be useful in saving space. I actually like seeing that clean new frame rail through the cancer hole. It's a reminder that the truck is way more than a lumpy cam and some rims on a barn find. Nothing wrong with good quality regular sized brakes. Having the master and slaves sized for each other with great brake feel will be more than enough. This thing won't be seeing willow springs. I was thinking a flatter round filter like a 14" from any ol 70's V8 but with a 4" flange would work. Maybe not 14" but 8-9". Couldn't find anything like that but did find https://www.amazon.com/RG-1001RD-Universal-Clamp-Air-Filter/dp/B00AFRIVNQ/ref=sr_1_9?crid=22I3SONONYZ2I&keywords=4"+flange+k%26n+conical&qid=1700957700&sprefix=4+flange+k%26n+conical%2Caps%2C121&sr=8-9

Four (4) Days Cease Fire for 25 hostages. I don't trust Hamas. Something is happening behind the scenes. I wonder what the hostages get fed and if they get water. Who takes care of the infants? Brutal environment. Peace

I'd reckon that's the least of their worries. Especially the women and girls. Early on, an Israeli father was crying, saying that the body of his daughter had been found and thank god she wasn't a hostage in those tunnels because of what hamas would be doing to her.

Kenney is a little difficult to deal with sometimes, but he still builds a solid trailer. I,m on my second Sport Trailer since 1991. both are/were still solid with absolutely no problems.

There are too many businesses out there that are easy to deal with. He sold or stopped doing business in his building off of the 215. It's been emptied out for awhile now. And as far as a solid trailer, this one mentioned wasn't so solid. The pinholes were a fairly common problem in the business. Even Lance RV had the problem. It was the aluminum roof laying directly on steel staples in that instance. $12K sounds outrageous to me but then so many businesses operate on the premise that there is always a bigger sucker coming up the road.

  8. I haven't got into megadeath like I have metallica. Sweating bullets is a great song to mutter loudly to as you drive. But I have many metallica albums I listen to all the way through.

My cousin and his wife were scheduled to attend a wedding in Israel and we got this message from his Dad (my uncle).

They were scheduled to fly out today but got the call on Saturday morning of this terrorist attack. Unfortunately Keren's cousin was captured by Hamas and shown on TV. No word yet of her wear about or safety. Obviously the wedding is cancelled and the groom was immediately called back to the Army. Keren is extremely upset and crying but Sean is trying to keep her from watching TV.
Please keep them in your prayers.

Wow. Makes it a bit more real. The news had an Israeli man on who was distraught and crying. He had just found out that his daughter had been killed by hamas and he was saying that it was the best case scenario, out of what could have happened. He said hamas would have done unthinkable things to her and the rest of the hostages.  This is war. Not the ROE filled embedded press farce that we have practiced for 30 years.

I was going to say AirTags but I think they recently changed the programming to alert anyone with an Apple I phone that there is one present. I think it had to do with people being tracked without notice.

    That can be a deterrent.
