Yeah.  I regret (only a little though) going Makita when I started with 18V stuff.

    Oh well, if I start up a 12V collection, it'll be Milf*ckees.

What are you guys missing that Makita doesn't make? I  have makita at home and I'll put those tools up against the Milwaukee tools at work any day. For a home gamer, my tools are pretty extensive and I have 18V automotive, construction, and lawn/garden makita tools. I draw the line at the coffee maker though.

Try Neiko, I have found their sockets and other tools to be good quality.

I've had great experience with neiko and tekton. Tekton is an American brand with lots but not all of their tools made here. Their reputation is growing fast so amazon is out of stock for lots of their tools.

  3. You can have a blast in the GX (Darn, one year away from VVT-I and the 5 speed). Sand highway runs along the 86 and will take you to Oldsmobile hill. Comp hill is still there but nothing like what it used to be. Duning in the flats along gecko and the aqueduct will be fun too. Plan on dropping your tire pressure and having a way to air up. The dunes are still the dunes. Tons of side by sides and lots of new drivers that may or may not be paying attention.

  4. The story as it is in the news right now makes no sense. The guy broke in somehow (glass door shown shattered) and multiple witnesses say he wanted Nancy but the hammer only came into play when the cops got there and saw him wrestle the hammer away from Paul and "violently assault" him with it. What exactly is a violent assault? Did he hit Paul with the hammer? How is an 80 year old man hit with a hammer then and only get a fracture and other relatively minor injuries? Who called the cops and why didn't they stop this nut job if there were multiple people on scene. It's fishy as hell and my first thought is the story is false, as it is being presented in the news right now.

is a paddle tire defiantly gone break his mud flap?

More than likely. Some people run a longer chain or a second master link to give extra space between the tire and flap. I did both over the years. I ended up having a seperate cut down mud flap that I used for the sand. I'd throw on a stock flap for the trail/moto riding. The sand flap had a few inches cut off of it but still protected the shock from sand. I have seen an air box ripped apart because the mud flap was strong so the box ripped instead.

  6. Paddles: I used to tell new riders that a 450 was best with a 10 paddle in my opinion. Gets the front end up right now. 8 paddles work just fine also. They have more slip so you have to tug on the bars to get the front end up. I felt that there was no sense bringing an open class bike to glamis only to neuter it with an 8 paddle. If your rider is aggressive, they will probably prefer a 10 paddle.

Molded verses buffed and glued: Skat trak tires are the lightest paddle tire available and in theory, will spin up faster. I preferred skat trak tires, either viper or hooker cup designs.  I ran my share of molded tires like cheng shin though and they were better than a knobby by far. Honestly, I don't think most people will tell the difference aside from price. Skat trak tires were double the price of a molded tire. I haven't ran any of the newer sand paddle brands so don't know if the molded tires have become lighter yet.

@Fireballsocal, curious to know what you mean by this?  Ive not looked into EV's @ all, so all I really know is what my son tells me about the things they have done, I don't have much of a basis to compare too.

Like all EV's, they are quiet, efficient, and the rivian in particular is very powerful, fast, with excellent design. The big frunk, pass through bed tunnel storage, 20 amp inverter are useful additions. 835 horsepower and 900+ ft/lbs f torque will set you back in the seat. The all wheel drive system, while not groundbreaking, is pretty neat. Yes, range is limited and halves or more while towing. Yes, they aren't true green powered, take forever to charge and all the other negatives that come with an EV. I'm not a cheerleader for EVs by any means. But they do have positives, they are fun to drive, and for the near future, are just getting more popular and more capable.

  8. I read that the drivers really like them compared to a standard van. It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out. The pickups are pretty cool. Expensive and with limited capability for sure but within those capabilities, they are impressive.

  9. #1, The first board member I met, pastor VOR and his 185S. #2, One of the gatherings, 13.5 I think. #3, Opening day of the compound behind the glamis beach store. #4, a couple of gays. We don't discriminate. What goes on in someone's trailer is their own business unless a camera happens to sneak in.
