It's an IS300 and no way is that totaled. I'd get a second opinion on repair right now since there is nothing for a decent price for sale.

Neh... with near 190k miles.. he'd have to put in a good grip $2k-$4k probably,... then the engine would grenade (possibly). He's looking at cars with 75k-125k miles. Probably gonna get another Lexus, reliable,.. Toyota so parts are cheap.. good cars.

Off topic, the baby (my 15 year old) will be getting a new or maybe 1-2 year old Elantra pretty soon that I'll buy her... about $20k. I want one with under 20k miles. It will be her car through HS, College and several years into work. Bought a 2013 Elantra  with only 6k miles back when my 22 year old was that age for $15k, still running great with 85k miles on it. She's going to enroll for her Masters in nursing this fall (2 years) and I expect she won't need a car for another 5+ years.

I went this 'cheap' route with my son as we all know how young males drive. Fortunately, it was in his name and his insurance. He got 3 years out of it, so no complaints for spending $4k when we bought it.

    Thanks guys.

  2. Appreciate the suggestions.

I heard 'Cars for Kids' is a scam.. the CEO just pays himself 95% of the profit and 'donates' the balance to charities so he's a 'legit' charity, etc... I'll try the junk yard route. I'm so swamped, no time to keep it and part it out. I'd be losing money (instead of focusing on my business). My son's been working and saved up, so he's gonna spend up to $8k (of his $14k in the bank) for a replacement.

Told him a Suburban for $8k isn't gonna happen. He needs to find another 'cheap' ride and pay cash so he has no payments. His roommate works on cars/boats and pretty sure the car is toast. .. possibly bent frame,.. sparks flying out of the front of the engine as the 'fly wheel' turns. .. leaking fluids... radiator is toast.. IMO not worth fixing. We paid $3k for it, put $1k into it. He's had it for a few years, so it did it's job.

I'll contact the junkyards and see what they'll give/want to haul it away.

    Thanks fellas.

    Sincerely,

PS. If anyone here is interested in buying it to part out, PM me an offer. The car is located in Garden Grove, California. It's a 2003 Lexus LS 300. Was a $45k car originally. 6 cylinder with all the bells n whistles for that year.

  3. So around 10pm last night my son was headed to where he lives after class. As he enters the off-ramp a motorcycle comes on the on-ramp, gets in front of him and pulls hard on the brakes, my son couldn't avoid him and hits him. Fortunately for the rider, he was fully geared up and didn't need (serious) medical attention, left with his mangled bike and the tow truck after EMS checked him out.

Unfortunately, my son's 2003 Lexus is totaled. It has about 190k miles on it and he recently got new tires. Since it was in his name with liability only, he's out a car temporarily (I'll loan him my Suburban) as he seeks another ride.

What do we do with his Lexus? Will some one (junk yard maybe) buy it for spare parts? Should he pull the rims and tires to try and recoup? Haven't been down this road in a long while. Appreciate any suggestions. He's got just a little over a week and then it's got to be off the street (for sweeping) and he'll get a hefty ticket if it isn't.

Figured some y'all on here might have some suggestions/ideas.

    Thanks,

  4. Speed UTV is big.. I like that you just buy it and don't have to 'aftermarket' it like I had to with my 2 SXS. I spent like $16k for all the 'stuff' you need after buying my Turbo S. Seems very stout. Doors are high and it seems like it will be very safe if you junk it. I noticed some of the members in the middle are 2", cage seems really solid/safe. I think it will be an AWESOME desert runner.

Folks have made comments about weight and I'm curious what the true weights of all SXSs are as I don't trust anyone's specs completely. I didn't get inside, but I think visibility could be an issue, but you won't care about that on your 5th consecutive roll-over in a high speed wreck.

So that's just the only draw back I can see is that duning, you will probably lose some visibility. I'd like to see (in person) a 2 seater. In general I'm not a fan of any SXSs in 4 seat models except for tackling the whoops.

If that Speed Key gets this thing to 300 HP she should boogie.

Anyhow, so it's truly turn key which is a big plus. I'd say I'm into my Turbo S for the same $$ to make it equivalent to what you can just pick this thing up for right out the gate. Should be a big selling point. My Turbo S was at the dealer for like 3 months until we got everything in and installed.

I've been going to the LBGP for over 40 years (missed a few years here and there)... I do miss the old days when folks would hold up cardboard signs saying 'show us your tits' and many.. many women obliged.. oh how times have changed.

Y'all have a good weekend.. after the LBGP watched my daughter cheer. Her HS Laguna Hills, beat my old HS Woodbridge, Varsity football game in overtime. Very exciting.

Back to working like a mad man.

  5. I miss parking at Gecko, but my camp group has lots of kids on small quads.. they like to set up around a kiddy track so we can just kick it and let them run the track, usually 10-13. Have only camped on Gecko a few times since selling the rail.

That's why I love my set-up.. don't need a pad... more truck than I need for my little 5th wheel,.. have no issues parking in the sand off of the pads.

I just can't understand why Glamis can't just add $20 to all the passes and build double the number of pads. Maybe I have the 'math' wrong, but that seems like a simple solution.

  6. All good for me.. just sold a 215 pcs of an allocated semiconductor today...  $3.00 part for $30.00 each... $6k.. during normal times I'd be luck to sell it for $2.00 ($600 order). Not being dumb though.. saving all this dough so when we have a several year slow down, I'll just hitch up the 5th, shut down and travel.

  7. Sorry to hear about your predicament and I'm not sure what RV Storage costs out there.. but here in So. Cal it's a MINT!.. I got lucky and keep my 5th at an equestrian center for $125/month. Rates around my area are north of $300. Could always store at my Mom's in Rialto for free, but that's an hour away.

Good luck on your project.. make sure to post pictures!

  8. ... Work.. work and more work. .. Just got back from the dealer, replacing the primary and secondary clutch on my 1110cc '14 RZR... decided today that I'm going to list it and move into having 2 2 seater Turbo S Velocitys. Gotta do it now, cause they're only going to make the fugly 64" wide Pro S moving forward and discontinuing all  Turbo S 72" wide, 26" clearance models.. (Velocity and Dynomax type deal suspension model)..  Total dumb decision IMO, but I don't want to miss out on getting another Turbo S Velocity before you can't get one.... so look for the sale add on the 1110cc which isn't even broken in soon... Maybe I'll end up with 3 SXS.. 😬...

Couldn't get anyone to go to the SSSS so I'm gonna skip it yet again.. no worries.

    Everyone have fun.

  9. For those who are employed, you need to be asking for a 7.5% raise. Inflation was 5.6% over the last year (and that's the government's phony calculated rate). So if you got a 2% raise, you actually took a 3-5% pay cut.

If they pass this $3.5 Trillion dollar spending bill, I think true inflation will be 7-10%.

    Not good. Buy assets.

    abc

PS. I really don't mind paying a higher rate. I just want the service done RIGHT! Every time I drop off an off-road vehicle, I print out a sheet, give it to the dude and tape one to the dash that lists everything I want done. Seems to work well.

I carry whole life  thru northwestern mutual and term thru state farm.  It helps to have an agent in the family.  He would automaticly get the kids policies and we just took them over after a few years. I carry enough to pay off all debts including the house and have a nest egg or college fund for the kids. It cost about $300 a month to cover the whole family and myself.

I have 2 policies that are over 15 years old. $150k (death benefit) Whole Life (my Step-Dad started that for me, horrible 'investments').. but I've had it so long, I'm finally at the point that each time we pay the premium, the cash value goes up by more than the premium so I keep it. I think the cash value is like $25k.

My wife and I also have had a $3.6M policy on each other that we got also about 15 years ago, so the estate would get over $7M. The premiums were frozen for 10 years, now they go up about $200 each per year. I think we're like $9k/year (total) on those policies,.. but if we both croak, with other assets, my Kids/family will have an 8 figure estate to split up. I'd probably get a lower policy now as my kids are getting older, but I'm always paranoid about the 2 year contingency window when the insurance company has lots of options to deny the pay out.

Getting those big ones was a trip, full health run up with blood, EKG as well as background checks. Mind you we were in our low/mid 30's at the time. NO WAY they'd insure my almost 50 year old for that much.. or the premium would be HUGE.

3 of my 4 kids are still on ABC 'assistance' so probably will keep those until they're all fully $ on their own.

    abc

PS. It's funny, we can keep the big policies up into our 80s, but then the premiums are like $100k/year.

Term Life is for when you have a large amount of debt to be paid when you pass. No debt = no term life needed. You can invest that term life premium into real investments.
My father passed in March, he had No life insurance, but he also had NO debt. It does make sense for debt owed on real estate. But that's about it. Just my .02 Peace :hi:

Sure, but if you have people relying on YOUR income, then you need the coverage as dead people don't earn much.. unless you're a song writer or something and get residuals.

  12. When I was messing with my Turbo S at night in Rialto, Lidel Creek wash, we got lost and in a HUGE concrete plant.. those modern SXS, especially since mine is the 2 seater, have AMAZING clearance. Feels like a jeep on steroids climbing and going over some serious burms/hills.

I probably will take a full season to figure it out... If I can only get my peeps to go to Glamis, seems like a waste to just drive SXSs...

    Thanks for the input/feedback.

Are you talking about just getting anther “buggy” for the dunes, or are you seriously talking about racing? Like BITD, SCORE or a regional series? Because Duning is not racing. Not even close. Just because you go fast or go big in the dunes, does not mean you were racing or have the experience to say you raced.

I racing is something you want to do, and if you have the disposable income, because you will flush money. If the families on board with it, Then try it!

Go to a race or two, see what gets your blood pumping, and see if you can afford to be competitive in that class, and jump in. I know you think the UTV’s are not fast enough, but they are faster then 75% of the classes out there right now. Plus that’s a vehicle you have experience with. Or check out class 10. That’s a drivers class and you better be on your game.

Plus you will need to build a team, but equipment and vehicles for prerunning and chasing.

At KOH last year I was totally thinking Class 10. For sure, duning is NOT racing. I'd need to figure out my 'budget.'  Probably wishful thinking. I'm not sure I can really take the 'time away' .. we'll see after this semiconductor allocation ends how many extra $$ I have to blow.

    Thanks,

  14. Always HATED... when they'd say 'dune buggy'... or 'sand car'... Eff THAT... my car.. that I sold was a  EffING RACE CAR.... that's how I drove it.. that's that is is/was... I'm thinking of dumpin the RZRs and getting BACK... to TRUE.. RACE CAR DRIVING..

I don't like 'the drags'.. I like DUNING a high HP... Long Travel Race CAR... everyone bet I'd WRECK... I drove it that way ... I 'race prepped' for it...

I love these little UTVs... but they'll Never... NEVER .. match the thrill of the ABC SCU .. I owned...

    I'll be 50 in March 0f 2022..

Thinking of ditching the RZRs and going back to...

... Racing... What say you?... I mean Eff...only live ONCE!.. I have HUNDREDS.. of in car.. out car... footage.. can't upload.. cause the files are HUGE.. I'd have to YOUTUBE them.. which makes it only worse for my addiction... I think I can go back and get back in.. everyone in the Kilin' It' Crew thought I was lame with my fire suppression, big neck collar, wrist straps both arms, etc. but I was about to go. .. next level.. after seeing dudes who wrecked their SCUs and their knees shattered...I was gonna add full goalie hockey thigh, shin and knee pads.. cause I EXPECTED to eventually CRASH..

I always liked solo driving.. just me.. full gear.. GO GO GO.....

  15. For the record I don't work for insurance companies and I actually hate them more than anything in the motherEffing world and I just believe if you get a clean policy you’re covered so tell the insurance goes he goes outside and play hide and go Eff themselves because they’re a bunch of cocksucker motherEffer pieces of chit… But at the same time you should buy insurance

  16. I don’t want to bag on the ‘un-schooled’… look I wouldn’t have done not for the ‘insistence’ of my Stepdad… But it can be a ‘hard lesson’

    It’s called a double tragedy…

.. a person is DEAD and the family he/she was supporting us ALSO gone.

Not fun .. get a policy.. don’t be a fool.

  17. Only thinking about this due to Norm McDonalds passing and is not related to any current GoFundMe specifically...

When you start having children.. a spouse .. or maybe a parent that you care for.. BUY TERM LIFE... BUY HEALTH INSURANCE.. I refuse to contribute to any GoFundMe because someone wasn't responsible enough to buy this stuff.. look it's cheap. When I started having kids, I was dirt poor. I sacrificed a 'dinner out' or maybe a subscription to HBO and made sure I had this stuff covered. If you you're relatively young and in good health, it's all super cheap... Term life can be like $35/month for $500k, but you need to buy it BEFORE you need it.

If/when I croak.. don't be looking for a GoFundMe.. there will be no reason because I did (the one.. LOL) responsible thing and bought the stuff.

OK, that's my rant. For all 30 somethings having kids, take the time and get it.

Talk me into a situation where responsible coverage wouldn't have 'handled it?' and I'm open for that debate. I personally had a catastrophic injury crashed a 310cc Husqvarna I bought from OB in Glamis .. an MX and because of the $7500/year out of pocket max, my $70k+ in bills were covered .. back in 2015.

Sorry if this sounds cold, I don't mean it that way.

    Sincerely,

  18. I love my '08.. hate the grill on the new Chevys. They look a rapper's teeth or something. First truck I've ever owned.. probably will be my last.. I can't see me putting on enough miles to ever justify buying a new one... plus it's a 60/40 LT (6 seater).. has NO gadgets... except power windows and doors. Even the seats are manual. I'm a HUGE fan of having less electronic gizmos. I'm in the industry and they build boards just to spec.. not made to last...

OK,.. so back to lifts.. no (BIG) lifts unless..
