Pretty normal for an electric car on regular home 110V.  If you want semi-fast charging, you need the right 220V setup.  A quick g00gle tells me a Volt will take about 12hrs to achieve a full charge on 110V.  Once Fallon is driving on her own, if you're not borrowing it to get to work that will be great... but if she uses it during the day and then you take it to work it's never fully going to catch up unless you have the right charger at work and/or home.

Need to do some research on a 'better' charging cord of there is such a thing. Regardless I need a spare cord to leave at home and one to keep in the car.

At 5:45 am the Volt was at full charge. I unplugged and headed home.

My drive is 15 miles and mostly uphill, doing around 70mph.

This is what I had when I got home.

Not complaining about the car whatsoever. I really like it, just want to maximize the benefits of owning it.

  2. Well, second day with this Volt and still trying to figure it out.  It runs and drives fine but it's the little stuff like the Bluetooth not synching unless I go into settings and pair my device (annoying AF) every time and the battery takes FOREVER to charge on 110v.  I plugged it in last night at work to the only 110v plug nearest my office at around 1 am.  By 5:45 am it said it was charged enough for me to drive 18 miles.  Perfect I'm 15 miles one way, but it's mostly uphill.  I was about 3 miles from home when it switched to the gas engine which was fine.  Plugged it in to a regular 110v source at my house at 6 am and checked it at 2pm and it said 20 miles of driving on the battery, full charge at 10:15 pm.  Huh?  6 am to 10 pm was 16 hours for a full charge?  Can't be correct.

My daughter found a reason to drive it so we went to the grocery store and were back home within an hour.  I plugged it back in as soon as we parked and at 9:15 pm I unplugged it to go to work.  The car said it had 28 miles of battery availability.  Good enough for me.  While driving, mostly downhill the battery climbed to 31 miles of driving.  OK.  Got to work and it had dropped back down to 27 miles of driving.  Odd, I just drove 15 miles.  I plugged it into the same 110v at work and will let it sit until 5:45 am tomorrow when I'm ready to head home.

I already put a call in to my electrical buddy about pulling a 220v source out to the RV parking specifically for the Volt.  I already have 50amp RV service but it's on the opposite side and 50' away.  While he's there I'll have him look at adding a generator plug for my house for all these dumb azz CA power outages.

That's awesome @L.R.S. congrats to her.

    Those CHEVY Volts are cool.

Thanks man.  Now she finds any excuse to need to go somewhere and drive it.  Problem is she only has her permit so I have to go too.  She HATED driving my 3500HD Duramax crew cab long bed but it's that or her brothers 06 Duramax crew cab long bed with a 6" lift and 35's.

My son and I went to Joe Rogan at the Forum Saturday night and took the Volt.  It does 30-40 miles on a full charge but AC on high and crap traffic changes that because it's only 20ish miles and on our way home it switched to the gas engine.  So we figured a little testing was in order and flat pedaled it up the 2 frwy through Glendale.  Got it up to 88mph and then a warning message popped up saying "Propulsion Power is Reduced" and we dropped down to 75mph.  Thought we broke it but my son and daughter went to their grandma's in Altadena today and the car drove fine on a full electric charge.  I drove it to work tonight, which I will be doing every night cause she doesn't need it from 9pm to 6am, and I was told we have free electric vehicle charging stations here at the hospital.  Little did I know the charging stations are in a parking structure not close to the power plant I work in and the structure is on the corner of Rape Ave and Murder St.  I'll just buy an extension cord and charge it near my office.

rears may have to sit on the wells during transport, depending on what trailer I end up with....shopping for an enclosed right now, limited selection out there, but need to keep the overall length of the trailer as short as possible due to storage location (so 18' to 20' max length)

I have to double check, but I was also thinking the tires will be like 3/4 or more on the wood support and 1/4 on the fender well. So I could make the wood support just slightly higher to reduce load on fender wells

If you're only getting a 18-20' trailer your back tires will not be on the fenders.

  6. Looking for a reliable car for my 15 yr old who just got her permit.  Grandma's Honda she ain't driving anymore, Aunt's Toyota she bought new in 2007 and it's been sitting for a few years, wife's car about to get traded in cause you're awesome and are getting her something newer... I'm looking.  Trying to stay around $5000, cause let's face it, she's gonna crash, but it won't be her fault cuz that other car came out of nowhere and slammed on their brakes and I didn't see it and Becky was talking soooo loud and Jennifer was playing Tic Tocs on her phone and we were laughing really hard... you get the idea.  We live 2 blocks from her high school so it's not getting driven much.

Super bonus if it's an E85 car cause I like those.

So, hit me with a deal I can't pass up.  Almost bought her a 04 BMW 535i that was posted here on GD but couldn't make the deal happen.  Prefer to give my cash to a board member or friend of a friend of a board member.

I see he threw a sticker on the wing.. I had it repainted/changed after owning it for a year.. ONE-A-DAY wasn't working for me.. everyone thinks you sell vitamins.

    No photo description available.

I just spent 6 days in No Nevada with Allen who bought the car from you. Never knew the back story till now. It belonged to one of the Herbst sons and ended up in an auction when they lost the casinos. Then One-A-Day (forget his board name) bought it. Then you got it from him?

Regardless the car is very well maintained and I've duned with it in Idaho once (pics I posted) and several Glamis trips.

  8. I've had SIRIUS since 2004 but I will not be renewing next time it's up.  Started off with one unit for $11.99/month and a second unit for $8.99/month.  If I paid 6 months at a time with an automatic renewal they knocked it down to $9.99 and $6.99 per month.  When my radios Crap themselves and I had to get two new units and SIRUIS raised the price and said the old radios had a 'new' contract, similar to @NIKAL situation.  Whatever, I absolutely loved SIRIUS for the commercial free music and no DJ's yapping all the time.  They had a great channel selection and, again, just music.

When Stern announced his contract with SIRUIS I was stoked because I was a listener since he came to the LA radio market around 1992ish.  The Stern show started off great but quickly changed, and not for the better.  He almost immediately added commercials and then cut his week from 5 to 3 days over the years.  Ok, show was still good, but that changed too.

The merger with XM was announced and Stern wouldn't shut up about it.  His 'bonus' was based on subscriptions gained after he signed and he figured if the merger went through those were to be considered new subscribers. A judge saw it differently and he lost his court case.  But the real merger damage was already done.  SIRIUS/XM cut channels, added commercials, and the worst thing- yapping DJ's.  Then they became Top 40 radio, same songs every few hours. The worst is Ozzy's Boneyard where they play Black Sabbath or Ozzy every 10 effing songs.

A few years back I didn't renew SIRIUS and they sent me countless emails offering different deals and finally offered 1 year for $39.99 so I went for it and then called to ask about online access and they gave that to me for $20.  Sweet deal.

I was listening less and less to Stern because the show became him whining about everything and it got boring.  The Trump bashing was really bad and annoying but the final straw was his interview with Hillary Clinton.  Complete joke, zero questions I'd come to expect from Stern and was a multi hour azz kissing fest about how great she was for New York.  I haven't listened to Stern since then.  I have flipped to his station a few times and for whatever reason it seems he's always yelling at one of his staff members for being an alcoholic, dumbass, dirty, etc.  The show isn't what it used to be and it's too bad.  I can't even imagine listening to his take on Covid but I read somewhere that he locked himself down in his Hampton house and did the show from there.  I also saw an article that he just renewed his contract and immediately took 3 months off for a summer break.  The article said listeners/subscribers were PISSED!

I got Spotify before last sand season so my kids and I could have a variety of music in the dunes.  My kids were sick of my iPod with Slayer, Clutch, Danzig, etc.  As I type this I'm listening to the Joe Rogan podcast on Spotify.  There are tons of other podcasts on Spotify I'm finding and so far I love the service.  I have my own playlist and add to it when someone tells me about a band I've never heard.  My kids also have their own playlists and my daughter made one that takes a little bit form each of ours for our 'dune' music in Glamis.

I got a new to me 2014 Duramax recently and it has a Kenwood head unit with SIRIUS option but it needs hardware.  Eff that.  It also has Bluetooth so my phone syncs automatically and I listen to Spotify pretty much all the time.  I will not renew my SIRIUS whenever it expires.

  9. I've been watching Cocaine Cowboys and have 1 episode left.  I was really looking forward to it after reading the book American Desperado by Jon Roberts and Evan Wright.  That book was really really good and I assumed the documentary would be based on the same people but it's not.  I'll finish watching it but it's kind of ehh, whatever.

  10. Really happy with my Simpson belts and they are local to me so it's easy to swing by the shop and get what I need. Actually headed there next week for a new set of belts for a clients car.
