BTW, I helped that buddy that I mentioned just got a full susp eMTB so I looked at a lot of options, reviews, videos, etc.  I'd say buying new this is the best deal going for a budget eMTB right now: https://www.canyon.com/en-us/electric-bikes/electric-mountain-bikes/spectral-on/spectral-on-cf/spectral-on-cf-8/4030.html?dwvar_4030_pv_rahmenfarbe=BU%2FBU

You can save another $300 and go one step further down https://www.canyon.com/en-us/electric-bikes/electric-mountain-bikes/spectral-on/spectral-on-cf/spectral-on-cf-7/4029.html?dwvar_4029_pv_rahmenfarbe=VT but the color is way worse (if you spend any time with cyclists, you'll realize looks and cool tech matter as much, or maybe more to us than they do to sand rail nerds :p ) and the wheel set and components are a notch up.

The other way to go is used.  Bikes are one of those things that everyone buys with the best dreams/intentions of riding every day and getting in shape and... and... and...  It turns out, few people follow through, as with most things that can be difficult in life.  You used to be able to find screaming deals on used bikes on CL if you knew what to look for.  It seems like most sellers have moved to FB Marketplace though, and a lot still think Covid pricing/supply shortages apply.

Still, if you have a good eye and time to search (*cough*retired guy @matt86m *cough*) you can find some great deals.

I could buy one of those if I had your $$$$$$ but my $ won't get it!

I would go to a local bike shop and test a few models or go rent something.  If you're just going to cruise the bike trials from FV to HB you might go with an inexpensive 4" fat tire x 20' foldable ebike for around $500 on Amazon to start with.  Then if you feel it necessary to upgrade to something better down stream your initial investment wasn't that much.  If you want to get more aggressive and do some real mountain biking like Whiting Ranch and other OC spots etc. then your going to spend a lot more, probably 10x.

Good advice. I want something that I can do moderate (at most) trails. I'd like to take it with me to Prescott. Lots of dirt up there, close to the house. I plan on going to a bike shop too.

    DANG...I just got MOTED!

    :lmao:

I know I'll be there with ya...I just want to hold out till in my 60's hopefully before going electric Mtn bike!

It all depends on what you want to do...I'd say full suspension, pedal assist. I'm sure there's deals out there!

Pedal assist for sure, im not that lazy,,,,,,yet!

  4. What are the do's and don'ts on E bikes?

Cruiser or Mountain bike style? Probably use on bike trails mostly. Occasionally dirt trails but I'm old and don't heal up like I used too.

    Watts?

    Range?

    Fat tire?

    Suspension? Front or full?

    Brands to stay away from?

Also not looking to 'brake' the bank! I'm not spending $2k 0r $3k on a bike

  5. I think I had 2 hours of time in G this season, that's no exaggeration.

Delivered a pair of wheels on my way to Prescott, short visit with Poule and Sand Psycho and then another day I rolled thru but for the life of me I can't remember why!

We spent the day yesterday on the water so not much to show. Our group chartered the boat at Kan Eang resort. It was a non stop party all day. We anchored off an island called Banana reef and went swimming  / snorkeling. The water was nice but too many jelly fish at the time so it was enter at your own risk.

I hope to go out tonight and get pictures from the walking street. It's called Bangla Rd if anybody wants to Google it. Have a good night everyone.

  7. Remodeling the Prescott house. Orig wood burning insert was cut up by previous owner - he put in a pellet fireplace insert. Ditched that and have been looking but DAYUMN they are spendy!!!

Anyone have a hook up for a wood burning or gas insert?

I really want a wood burning but gas (propane) is probably a better choice. Ill put a fire pit outside

I would gladly go back to grey fingers from perusing the Various Trader (Auto Trader, Parts Trader, whatever) if it meant no more Facespace.

    Thursday was the best!
