so anything super cool this year?  new ropes, radios, whips, wheels, tires (what is the story with buggy tires), engines, etc?

did Weddle have a booth?  did they have any fancy new stuff?  seems like they are always doing cool stuff?

IIRC Gear-One had a booth, what kind of stuff did they have?

We were there. No one likes pictures of tranny's, so no pictures of the tranny tenders. (I am ok with that)

Caught @L.R.S. digging around in my cooler looking for Bud Lights, told him to scram.

@Grant@Funco thinks he's funny with the "where's my transmissions?" jokes.

Was nice to tell people "yes, we do have your parts in stock. Transmissions too. Want a new sequential? Give your builder a deposit, they can have it in less than a week to assemble for you."

A few other GD.com peeps saying hello. Sorry if I don't know who you are, I am not great at matching online persona's with actual people.

Stoked to see lot's of actual sand cars at the show this year. Possibly a change in the air???

Like said if you register out of state better have a driver license for that state. Chp gets you the fines will be more than you saved.

No you cannot say it stays out of state and you only brought car to ca for repair. They are onto this and will nail you knowing your skipping registration in ca.They will question registration out of state and the ca driver lic  known some who have been caught same deal register at their river house pulled over in ca

off road toys and boats it’s another story.

They can question all they want, but, they have the burden of proof. Unless the CHP has spent the time/effort to investigate me for a few months, they are going to have a hard time selling that to a judge.

I have a legitimate residence in AZ, and this is not a daily use vehicle. There is no law that says I cannot bring an out of state registered vehicle into CA for whatever reason I have.

I know of the potential consequences and headaches that can possibly come from this decision. Those are simply annoyances compared to the out of pocket cost for me to retain the CA registration fees.

  4. I just did this with my TBSS. Family home in Havasu.

Grabbed a copy of electric bill.

Walked into DMV, paid $280 for 5 year registration (was $290 for the year in CA).

Walked out in 10 mins with temporary plate in hand.

Had to shop around for insurance, but landed on State Farm for $500 for year. AAA here in CA was $540 year, but wanted $900 for AZ.

Still have CA DL. If they pull me over, the vehicle is registered to family home in AZ where it spends most of its time, but I have it here in CA temporarily to work on it. I still have a daily driver registered in CA.

Could not have been easier, and now I have an American flag AZ plate with the word "FREEDOM" in big bold font across the bottom.

  6. 2-3 months out on delivering new ones right now. Waiting on diff side gears, which should be here in the next 4-6 weeks, that gets us fully caught up and delivering all backorders. New orders delivered after all backorders are shipped.

Not a Tranny guy but was the early original stuff it’s own trans or does this stuff work in the current e box ?

My understanding is the original stuff was it’s own transaxle and used 091 based gear sets. E box is based on 002 gear sets and later versions of the 2D used gear sets unique to itself. None are interchangeable.  The parts I have for sale would be useful to someone who has an early box and needs parts for a rebuild. This would save changing the gear carrier , machine work and new gear sets necessary for the upgrade to later model design. Even if you wanted to upgrade parts are in short supply.

These parts are for what could be called a "Gen 1 MD4-2D". The original 2D was built with 091 1st-4th gears. The pinion shaft from an 091 was cut off, and then welded to the 10" R&P. The modern 2D is a "Gen 2" of this one, where they now have a wider 2nd/3rd gear, and larger input shaft to mainshaft coupling.

None of these will work for a common 2D trans, nor an E-box.

The R&P is very much specific to that "GEN 1 2D" trans with 091 gears. There are still a few of these out there running around. The right buyer will need to see this ad, then it will be sold.

The 1st/2nd gears pictured would work in a standard 091 trans. These are not Weddle gears, although they were made by Albins for our competitor at the time.

But I expect all you GD.comers to stop in and say hello to an OG SAND BUG BUILDER

Be prepared to see Ron and I quickly walking away as you approach our booth. Please be kind to us.

You'll have to don these shoe covers prior to entry, so as not to pollute sacred grounds with your pagan feet.

    Standard Shoe Covers - Size 6-11 S-7873 - Uline

Don't need to wear these if you are wearing Speed Shoes. Thinking about sporting my first editions that he gave me in Long Beach to shake up some controversy (laughter would be more likely). Actually, I should have him sign them so I can sell them to some fan boy in a few years for $100.

So an RPM stage 7 auto trans is around $5k. An RPM stage 5 rear Corvette diff is close to $4k. I am just curious exactly what the Mendeola SDR5 is and a price for one. https://rick486.wixsite.com/dobbertinperformance/copy-of-08-type-iii-mid-engine  I assume it would have the sequential shifter and cables like my S4 in the Funco? Transaxle would move the weight even further back vs the vette A4 auto and C5 diff. (Not sure if that would be good or bad in this truck) Fuel tank would have to go most likely in front of the engine under the bed between the frame rails. @Sean@Weddle   I think you mentioned S5 earlier and maybe that would be plenty to handle what I am doing. What are current rough prices and options for these transaxles?

Please shoot me an e-mail for a quote. sean@weddleindustries.com

  11. I will happily take your deposit money for an S5 that I can deliver in about 6-months, maybe.

I find the comments about staying away from CV joints and transaxles, on a board that specializes in sand rails, that utilize CV joints and transaxles, somewhat entertaining.

The only thing limiting anyone from installing an S5 into this type of application is your budget and fabrication skills.

I'll even go so far as to tell you to throw whatever HP you want at it. The S5 will hold it just fine in a street application. Good luck getting DOT tires to get more than 800 ft/lbs of torque hooked up.

You should probably check with Kennedy on an adapter plate and flywheel for that Dodge motor, I don't know that they cover all of the Dodge motors and generations.

  12. My neighbor in Ventura has a '68 SS with a 502 crate motor and T400. It's pretty cherry, he's asking top dollar for it, does not need any work what-so-ever. Shoot me an e-mail if interested and I can get you in contact with him. I am pretty sure he has the factory 396 for it as well.

  13. When did you buy your trans?

If you have received a new trans in the past year or so, it will likely have our new Gen 3 shift mechanism, and require this dash display kit, which we do have in stock, you just have to call me and order directly. https://weddleindustries.com/products/8-S45-DM-A/8-S45-DM-A

If you have an earlier trans with the larger front "boss" sticking off the front cover, then you will need this kit: https://weddleindustries.com/products/8-S45-DM/8-S45-DM

Both of these can be wired into a digital dash display, but you will need to manually program the display for each gear position. You can buy the Gen 2 and Gen 3 sensors separatetly if you do not want to purchase the separate display. The Gen 3 mechanism uses a much higher resolution gear position sensor that has a "finer" voltage readout that is much better for No-Lift-Shift actuations through the ECU.

  14. Was a "professional?" shop wrench for about 9 years before becoming the resident transaxle "expert?" here on GD.com.

Ordered up the first model year Trek Slash 9 back in 2011 while still working in a shop in Santa Barbara (waited 3 months for it, back when waiting for anything more than a few weeks wasn't a "thing"). It was the top-o-the-line rig that only me and new world DH champ Aaron Gwin rolled up on at the first Southridge winter series races that year.

Since people love throwing the "game changer" term around, this bike was exactly that for my riding abilities here in Santa Barbara. This bike was actually designed specifically for SB trails (the suspension engineers worked in Santa Clarita and rode SB trails monthly). It's basically a full blown DH bike that can actually climb decently. I know many people did not like the dual air chamber rear shock because it doesn't preload and jump well, but damn that bike can soak up some nasty rock gardens at speed.

Been my only ride for the past 10 years, mostly because I like it so much and I refuse to pay the insane prices for a newer 27.5 or 29er bike that doesn't have a dual front chainring (I like having that granny gear). I need all you guys to get out and break more trans parts so I can afford a new bike.

Make it a policy to charge the extra $10 for the signature requirement but it is included in the total shipping cost and not disclosed to the customer. You may be out a sale if the customer doesn't like the shipping policy, but that is better than being out the part and the cost of shipping if it is stolen or disputed.

from what you guys, (I"m referring to sand rail/sxs,car part suppliers/mfg's) sell, not much is cheap, or offer a 10.00 promo coupon and write it off as advertising.

I just bought some air bags, compressor for my truck and it adds it in automatically, if you take it off at checkout, it says you removed it and its on you.

Now that we offer direct purchasing on our website (worldwide), we have had more than a few occasions of complaints from customers that want to order a $5 seal, then call to complain when they see they need to pay a minimum $15 UPS Ground shipping charge in the US, or minimum $60 international shipping charge.

"Well why don't you just ship it USPS?" Because USPS has lost more of our packages than it has become worth for us to replace them at our cost. Sorry, we don't want to throw our money away either.

We do not generally get complaints from those who are spending more than $100 and paying the $15/$60 shipping charges. It's those that want to buy a .89¢ circlip for their clutch arm, which happens far more often than I care to speak about.

For the small number of you who post on here, you are generally not the type of customer that will have this type of issue, nor be in this segment of customers that we sell to. This is mostly for customers in area's of the country/world where they do not have a local VW/Transaxle specialty shop/supplier that they can drive to within 20-30 mins to pick up what they need, so they are forced to pay the shipping costs, and will therefor complain about any extra cost involved with the small part they are needing.

hell when i order anything I ask them for a signature requirement, so if i'm not here they won't drop it and it get stolen. Sometimes its a pain, but haven't lost anything yet knock on wood. Anything you ship should be signature required

Signature on delivery requirement costs the shipper an extra $10.

The shipper charges an extra $10 per order to require the signature on everything they ship.

Customer complains about shipping costs to the shipper.

Shipper explains the higher shipping costs and signature requirement to the customer.

Customer says: "I'm home all the time, take the signature requirement off and save me the $10"

Shipping company delivers package to customers front porch and it gets stolen.

Customer calls shipper and complains that they never received the package and that the shipper should refund or replace the stolen goods.

What does the shipper do to prevent this in the future?

How to keep Transmissions alive for long term?

This is counter productive to my long term career, I'd rather not share these secrets. (HaHa (sarcasm))

Simple answer: Buy more transmission than you need when you build your car or new motor. Why spend $$$$$ on a big motor when you don't have enough gearbox to get it to the ground? You are building a toy that has lots of power, you should build the toy to be able to use all of that power without breaking drivetrain and frustrating yourself every couple of trips.

You don't daily the SS?  LOL

    10mpg on premium hurts.

90 miles a day on the trailblazer was not friendly to my bank account. Did that for about 4 months and found the Buick with 2.4 DI Ecotec motor (Class 10 motor) and now get 32 MPG and save about $300 a month.
