  1. With my limited trips, I am leaning more and more to Gecko.  Less dust, bigger dunes right there.  Coming in early to mid week hasn't stopped me from getting a spot on pad 3 or any pad for that matter.  Not a fan of the drags so the further down Gecko the better for me.  Not a fan of roadrunner.  Way to tight around the loop when the weekend fills up with trailers.

Nothing at all in Westmoreland  The old Shell across the street used to but they shut that down years ago. We come that way and then through Ocotillo... used to stop there at OW and they closed that one down too... then we used to stop at the entrance of Vail Lake outside of Temecula and they shut that one down... MFkers gonna make me pull the handle on the highway

Wire this into the left turn signal. :lmao:

Interesting, good info here as Ive been pondering buying a rental property or two. We retired out of Ca, the issue I'm having is with the current interest rates if I buy a property in this area I basically make in rent what the money makes in a CD with no headaches. Now, when rates drop and / or if cost of buying housing drops I'll reconsider my position.

Rumors say, buy now, rates will drop, prices will soar, supply will drop even more. Refi and sing.

I have been down this road at work probably a thousand times (at work on shift). Kidde detectors are unreliable. We recommend  the BRK/First Alert brand as we don't see as many issues with these. Dust will piss ANY unit off for sure, low batteries cause fits, but at the end of the day we say replace them if all else has been addressed. The previous post about the breaker/GFCI is a great place to check, as the batteries fail somewhat quickly living on the 9 volt back battery instead of the 110v input. The service life is technically 10 years per fire service  standards (just a random number in my opinion, and 5 years for a CO detector in my experience).Good luck, they always like to to go off in the middle of the night. Also, don't disconnect the system, as I have seen fatalities for THIS reason. And yes, I maintain regular maintenance on my residential units (blow them out with low psi air and change your batteries once  year if they are not 110v maintained).

Mine are hard wired 110 volt with the 10 year lithium battery. Do you know if the BRK brand you mentioned, will be plug and play to existing wiring.

  5. 10 days in glamis. 8 days with no problems.

Car is running great. Getting very comfortable with it and liking everything that's been done.

Day 9/10 and had a few issues.

Air compressor started running every 5 minutes. Found the head cracked and leaking air.  Set the bags and unplugged the air controller.  Same day, steering started locking up. Rack finally stopped working so parked the car.

Did a good look over and found drivers rear bag perch was bent. These are original and already have a new updated hd set coming.

Grants got the rack for rebuilding. Grants getting the spring perches ready.  Air compressor has arrived. Waiting on some 12 point bolts to arrive to remount the steering rack. Will make getting the rack installed easier.

Should of got a photo of the passenger side foot pad. It's bent away pretty good.

Think @Greengois still picking his underwear out of his crack.

All in all. Happy and looking forward to the next trip.

  6. So found the rear brake pads scored pretty bad. Center of the pads where the vents run on the rotor.  I think the pad thickness kept the pads rubbing more than normal. Heat built up and when I would stop, they would stick to the rotors.  As new these pads were tight. The whole brake assemblies and midboard assemblies were made by grey area. I haven't reached out to them with my findings yet.

Since taking some material off the pads. Making them thinner, I haven't had the issue.

Hawk makes the pads. They are offered in .800 - .750 - .700 and so on in thickness.  These were .800's and I took .025 off each with the mill.

On my third lithium powered 10 year kidd in my apartment. The first one started going off after using some powerful cleaners around it. I killed it with a screwdriver by shorting the battery on the back in the slot provided. I bought a second one to replace it out of pocket assuming the fumes setting it off had been my fault. I just had a walk through to check alarms and it wouldn't quit chirping afterwards. I got so fed up that I killed it again. Ordered the third and I'm starting to think it's an issue with the kidd brand and I should try another brand. What do you think?

Without @Realbadlarry comment, I was thinking the same. Eff Kiddi

Did you do any work on the house AFTER they were intalled?   Had that issue with an Air B n B in St.George Utah...fire showed  up cause we couldn't get them off and it was the whole house system.... he said they see it with units installed BEFORE the work is completed on the house..they get contaminated and are chit from then on...throw em in the trash and buy new ones...if you are going to sand or paint in the house...take them off and put them in a bag first.

House has been a dusty mess since they were installed. Stucco, landscape, pavers, concrete etc.  Black counters fuggin suck. Sounds like I should just buy some new ones.

  9. The balance is real.  Fire is the correct way to deal with it but with no replacement, it is an ugly position to be in.   The hiring pool is non existent.  I don't even need a high school diploma as long as they show up for the interview and didnt get dropped off by Uber.

My best candidates have fixed their own vehicles, mowed a lawn, own some tools and have some connection to an existing employee.

  10. Kiddie hard wired fire/smoke alarms going off in the middle of the night. Dam things will levitate me out of bed and push my heart out of my chest...

Whole system is new by one year.  Has happened in the past and some air in a can seemed to help by blowing out the sensor.

This is just killing me with how often its happening lately.

No real answers via the Google searches.

    WTF to do???

    Happy birthday.

when you said the spool valve in the rack went out, what were the symptoms?

Steering started hanging up and felt like air in the system. This was when I knew something was up.  Next morning, went for a ride close to camp to warm up and the steering started to lock up. Couldn't turn the wheel.

Made it back to camp slowly with quite a fight.

  12. Thanks everyone. Really appreciate it.

I try and do my birthday week at Glamis every year. 99% of the time it's mid week and raining and I'm over it and wanting to head home.  All my friends coming out talk me into staying and it's always a good time.

This trip was 10 days. MLK clean up weekend started the trip and just got home.

Epic weather the whole time. Last night saw some sprinkles and we left this morning with some sprinkles.

Stoked to pull this one off.

    Cars running great.

Had the air compressor head crack so just killed that and left the air bags alone with one setting.

Lost the steering on Friday. Spool valve in the rack went to crap.  Scrambled but threw the towel in on swapping. Been 8 great days.

Cars loaded, racks pulled and ready for rebuilding.
